About this ebook

Competing in a 100 metres long race thrilled me during my school days. I did not always fi nish fi rst in the race, but the interesting point to me was that, I always crossed the fi nishing line no matter what. I used to observe some disappointment on my fellow competitors whenever they fi nished the race behind others. They complained about the weather or just blamed themselves as being useless runners. What they did not realise was that, we were all winners because we all ran and crossed the fi nishing line. This mentality helped me to believe that limitations did not come from anyone but myself. No one was ever forced by anyone to pull out of the race, that decision came from an individual. Failure in anything is a matter of choice. In my book The Cankerworm, I have identifi ed the root causes of debt, distress and discontentment that lie within and how they can be overcome. Doing nothing is not an option. All issues in this book are real and nothing is factious.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Orchard

The weather was warm and a nice breeze of air was coming from the southern part of the country. Study trees, with green and healthy leaves appeared in a formation that resembled a squad of troops at a parade. Fresh, green and red apple fruits hung on the branches that were supplying the delicate juice in them.

For many years, the orchard produced delicious fruit for making pies and other recipes. In shops and markets, the fruit was put on sale for people to buy. Best selling perfumes came from blossoms of the orchard.

From a distance an army of caterpillars known as cankerworm was dragging itself towards the beautiful orchard. The wingless females moved in a procession bearing the burden of their eggs which they intended to off load on the trees, which for many years were carefully pruned and fertilised to produce this delicious fruit.

But as for now, the existence of this orchard was being threatened by these destructive caterpillars. The cankerworm is known for destroying the foliage of a tree and the soft parts of the leaves.

Slowly, the cankerworm dragged themselves as they closed the distance from the orchard. It appeared as if the smell of the green leaves increased their sharp appetite to wreck havoc on this orchard. Their movement resembled that of an invading force approaching a city of unsuspecting sleeping babies, young men, women and the elderly who would soon be wiped out.

The caterpillars had previously left a trial of destroyed orchards. The egg laying females finally reached the orchard and began crawling up the trees. There however appeared to be a problem for this advance party of caterpillars.

The crawling females were not making any progress upwards. This was different from the previous orchards whose foliage
