It took me a while but Ive seen the light but as may you.

How I got there with the rest of this book is hard to ascertain now (although Ive actually now managed to write about this concisely at the end, now that Im writing this right now in the future now sounds a bit ridiculous, I know, and far too many nows), but what Ive put Im damn sure is true and it will be as true for anyone else. And thats why I think this book has so much value. With these writings, it should all damn well work!!

Russell James Stein

He was already a delusional, paranoid, obsessive, and depressive person, and it took him a long time to see this. It’s so hard to know what is normal when everybody is so different anyway. He had got into the world of heavy metal in his late teens. This suited his mood. The chaos in his head. He is a rational thinker, but there was a fair amount of garbage floating around in his head-making it difficult sometimes for him to live his life to the full. It took a long time before people began to class him as a cool guy, but by that point he had been analyzing himself for a long time in order to change his personality, which is what (partly) made him become depressed and so paranoid. For those who don’t know, paranoia is a condition where you are worried that things are happening or going to happen to you or that people are saying or thinking about you when in actual fact they are probably not at all. Everybody has things on their own minds that they are thinking about that usually have nothing to do with you. But if you are paranoid and you walk into a crowded room, then it can be quite unnerving. Adrenaline will start to flow abnormally and it is very difficult to relax.

Another thing is that I have found it very difficult to have a relationship. I realize now that I found it very difficult to make eye contact with girls (and in general these days half the time—addition) because I guess I felt I did have something to hide. The abnormal feelings because of the depression did this. When I say depression, I am not talking about common, everyday depression that everybody gets but a more serious depressive illness that got eventually to such a point where I could no longer concentrate on anything at all (actually it was going with the flow that was most difficult—addition). It is amazing how much concentration needs to go into just hearing someone talking when you are aware of this. I am now just beginning to recover through the use of anti-depressant drugs (as an aid—addition).

The point though is that during this period of depressive and paranoid illness, I have been seeing things in a more acute and philosophical manner than the average person would, but believe me, you wouldn’t really want to (I hardly found any answers back then—addition). This is something I have done for at least a few years now. Lately, it had got to such a point where I was almost incapable of doing anything, but I still saw the world rushing onward, others still leading their busy lives. I could hear the news of the world and see the people in the streets, on the trains, and in their cars—driving like lunatics. Not a good scenario, but it’s not their fault (mostly and at least not directly—addition). It’s just the way society is today. (Mind you, on the other side of things, at least we’re not lazy—positive vigour—addition). We all live together in a competitive and, as I said, a fast-moving society.

It is a chain reaction to drive fast. You see the first car in line rev up in an impatient manner to get to point B, away from point A. The car behind follows the leader in a similar manner, although he does not even know he was in a hurry. He’s thinking about something he said to the boss earlier that day and following the car in front, 20 mph above the speed limit (although speed limits are tedious and overdone, perhaps a many-tiered allowance limit where the most competent are allowed the fastest speed—a faster speed is a good idea—addition) without even realizing it. It’s not his fault. Or is it?

Me being the philosophical person that I am, I could say that he should realize his every action and the influence of others on himself and should keep to a sensible, considerate speed. But everyone is a player in the game, not a philosopher thinking about the game. Sure, everyone does think to some degree—and good for them—but people have to get on with their lives. (Regarding this, it is best to refer to Chapter 8, Part A, How much do I need to think about this before I act?, p. 85.) Otherwise, their lives will fall apart. So it is not up to the individual (in this case to a large degree—addition). The individual cannot do anything (much to change things—addition). It is up to society as a whole. Politics. How does one feel about that though? It is not always good (your life in others’ hands if they are even paying attention—addition). Maybe it is up to the individual. But who? Who is going to sit back see his life go to pot and think about helping the world? There are few, very few. I am not one of them. But I am for now. I’ve had no choice. I’m selfish just like everyone else (to some degree—addition). I think about others, but I have certainly thought about myself a lot. And I got into the predicament I have described where I had to sit back and see things in a philosophical way. I looked hard enough for a long, long time, and I eventually found the book. Which may mean we can be the people we were meant to be.

Society

Coming to terms with the real world today.

(Get ready for a depressed outlook mind you—addition—but realistic?)

In today’s society, children normally have a lot more financial support through their school lives. This is necessary. Today it is very difficult to get a rewarding job. Studying has to progress to a high level. There are many more students out there striving for masters’ degrees. Degrees that normally take an extra 4 years to achieve after having done A levels. This is no easy task.

Many will opt out before doing A levels. One example is to join the territorial army. This is understandable. There is a strong urge for some to get out there and be a part of it all. To support themselves. However, they soon find that the novelty wears off and that they are stuck in this for the rest of their lives. A lot of hostility arises. (Refer to Chapter 8, Part A, Achievements, p. 109—addition.)

Those who do carry on with their education are normally going further and further down a blind path, not knowing where they are going to end up. Sure they know that they will, at the end of the day, be earning a decent wage, which is everything to some who are older and more experienced with the difficulties in life. But money starts to become repulsive and a symbol of everything bad to those who have been working so long and hard and still have none of their own. They also know that once they’ve got that hard-sought-after job, they are most likely in it for the rest of their lives, whether they like it or not. This is, of course, the same for those in jobs who would have had to accept this already.

Undergraduate students are suddenly out there in the real world like everyone else, but they are now alone with little financial support and generally little support in any way whatsoever. They have to be selfish in character in order to help themselves, yet they must be friendly and generous in personality to get along with their student companions, who are their only key to getting through it all as a team, knowing that everyone else is in the same boat and will help keep it rowing along.

It is essential to work hard, but to keep the balance, it is essential to play hard. In other words, social life is larger than life or, should I say, a life of lager! Many have not had the chance to develop a relationship. Now this is more difficult than ever. Not only has the student now devoted full attention to himself/herself, but the student may be unsmart, in dress and actions (e.g. drinking heavily, drugs). The desire for a relationship may be almost driving him/her crazy. Of course, nightclubs are booming, packed with students all there for the same reasons but usually leaving disappointed and waking up the next morning with a frightful hangover and vague recollections of the night before—if they do wake up before the afternoon that is. Morals and self-esteem are simply chundered away at the end of a night out and may have returned in time for the next night out a few days later.

Being centered around yourself can give you far too much time to think about things. Thinking about things too much can get you nowhere. Life is a vicious circle. For instance, the only thing lacking for me at one stage was a girl in my life. I felt I needed confidence to get a girl, but I needed a girl to get confidence. Seeing the bigger picture, we fight wars to create peace, but once ‘peace’ is created, will we be at peace? Being human, there is guilt and regret, and there is no human without feelings.

Back to what I was saying, thinking too much gets you nowhere. You can get so far, but then you have to make decisions and take actions. (In retrospect, now it can lead to answers—addition). You must always do what you feel is right, not what you feel other people would want to see you do, although you must stay in line with society; that is, if you feel it is right to go out and rob stores or throw petrol bombs through windows, this is not good!

Now I can see why there are people out there doing these things. I think we all can. Either society has not done them right, or maybe there was always something wrong with them. Either way, we have to do what is best for the people as a whole. If you see things this way, everybody does what they do for a reason. It is, in a way, as immoral to persecute the so judged wrong as it is to persecute the innocent. But this is the way it must be to remain civilized (i.e. we have to do some wrongs—addition). Fair enough. However, if there is anything we can do to stop things getting so out of hand in the first place, we must do it.

I feel that society is too focused towards wealth. It could be our downfall. When I say ‘wealth’, I mean wealth of money and power but not love and happiness. Religion is becoming more and more ancient and obsolete to many. Religion, however, is so important. Not so much the traditions, but the respect, belief, and morals.

Respect, Belief, and Morals

I see all religions as being of equal importance. I respect them all equally. I also respect atheists. But everybody should choose what they believe. Traditions could also be our downfall. We are all, no matter what religion we are rooted to, human beings with the same hopes, dreams, feelings, and goals. I very rarely attend religious sermons. I do not see that it would bring me any closer to God. I like to simply abide by my own beliefs and do what I think is righteous going by my own experience of myself and others. A rich man with no morals should not be going to his place of worship for the sake of it. Or should he? Maybe he should if it is going to make him feel better in himself. This is mainly what it is all about.

Feeling good in yourself and thus having the strength to do right for yourself and others (see Chapter 8, Part A, Being Cool, p. 87—addition).

Very few people feel good most of the time. Why? They have made choices throughout their lives—many that they regret—and there is no way to change the past and no way for life to take more than one path. It is, therefore, vital that the right choices are made when they need to be made. Choices get more and more important as one grows up, but today, most youngsters are incapable of making the right ones (good parenting can help here or a reliable schooling—addition). I, for one, chose as best as I could at the time, but I wish I could go back and change everything. We can still change who we are and what we do now based on mistakes we feel we have made in the past. However, once we have chosen a path, we pretty much have to stick to it. Now this is why I feel there is something lacking in the early stages of education. Too much is left for the children to learn for themselves. The simple truths (to come) are guidelines of how to build character from an early stage in life—things that many children may not learn until it is too late so to speak (this book as a whole, however, is the best grounding—addition).

Now I have made a list that I feel would be of immense value. However, it is only a proposal. Democracy can take care, great care of the controversial elements. The statements are bold. The statements have to be bold (am I getting delusional here?—addition). The greatest controversy of all is to be hoping for universal religious collaboration taking religion to its roots, breaking through the walls of hard-fought tradition, and uniting as one peace-loving, respecting, moralistic race! Can this be done? Only time will tell.

When I say ‘taking religion to its roots’, I mean accepting purely that there is a ‘God’. This universe, everything is here. Everything we are, were, and will be. [It all came from somewhere—I now, however, recommend the belief to see God as the creator, but the creation—addition. Note that also there is a God Almighty]. [Science can take us infinitely close to the roots but never to the very origin of existence. Remembering science itself was from the same origin. The origin where something appeared came into existence from absolutely nothing. Not a vacuum. But nothing. There is no such thing. But there had to be. Whatever it was is unexplainable (that’s what I did think—addition). There is no way to explain it. The origin can only be referred to as the unexplainable, abstract ‘being’ God. (In actual fact, the origin is just a part of God—addition). This is what God is? (No—addition). This is the root of all religion? (No—addition). This is the root of everything? (This universe—addition). This is good and bad and everything that exists in this universe including us (YES—addition). Respect God for what He is the creator, our creator—and also the creation of reality itself—addition (note that the philosophy changed somewhat over its decade of development, hence all the additions—adjusted September 2005, the origin is not the issue)]. Now if everything came from this origin (no, irrelevant, but everything is divine—addition)then this includes evil. Could what we refer to as the Devil not just be a part of God? Like there is good and bad in all of us. If we accept this, then we can control this. Whatever bad you have can be used to do good. Strength comes through harder, darker qualities that we being human beings have the ability to control. We have a perfectly good understanding of what we have generally defined as right and wrong, but in practice, only character can help us not to go astray.

Belief in God and belief in yourself are just as important. If you do not believe in yourself, no one will believe in you. If you do not respect yourself, no one will respect you. Help others, and you help yourself. People are not going to have confidence in you unless you have confidence in yourself. To have all these qualities, you need to have respect for society; build your own morals and live by them. It is as simple as that. Teach this to the children. Our future.

Fear

I have just said that I believe God is good and bad—pantheistically. I have also implied He is imperfect, since perfection does not really exist in this universe. There is no such thing. Strive for perfection and you may come close, but nobody or nothing is perfect. Maybe I’m wrong. (Maybe the origin was perfect—irrelevant—addition). As soon as (He gave) conscious life to the universe came about, He became imperfect. Maybe there were two separate entities sourced from the origin. God and the Devil. Good and bad. Whichever way we look at it, they are both immensely powerful forces and must be respected for what they are. There is a fine balance in life between good and bad, right and wrong, being happy or sad, calmness or fear.

I am calm, saying what I have just said. Fear is something that we build up inside our own minds. We are scared of what we do not know for sure. There is so much that we have learnt in our lives but still have no solid perception of God or death. (With the advent of this book, perhaps just death now and the pursuit of biological immortality, although an afterlife is highly likely—addition). So we fear them. This is the way it must be—for now—addition. Fear is for our own good. Mega fantastically we are now allowed to regenerate, however.

If our natural instinct was not to fear God, then we would today have no morals. Although, addition, we do not have to be pushed this way now that we have a solid philosophy of our age and all the other moral influences. And if we were not to fear death, we would have all died before our race even started to live.

Yes, do fear God pantheistically (even now that we know His nature—addition). But do not be scared to develop religious teachings democratically for the next generations to benefit them in a changing world. There are many who do not appreciate the significance of their own religions with respect to the way they live their own lives today (which isn’t surprising, considering the amount of influences that are going on spiritually in real life outside of the place of worship that, to the largest degree, shape one’s soul in this life—addition). This is what it should be about. Not just a nurturing of respected traditions but guidelines that can help society today worldwide. It is not only our fear, hopes, beliefs, and questions of our own existence that brought about our religious formats, but what the wise people saw to be of tremendous importance to our civilization. The Ten Commandments. Was this really a vision from God? Yes. Not necessarily a vision as such (although it could have been—addition), though, but a sudden awareness seen through the eyes of a very wise man. Moses. I do not for 1 second want to make the Ten Commandments sound any less holy—after all, addition, any one man is divine and in wisdom is more so. Moses was a good man. And a God-Man (see Chapter 12, Neo-Tech Philosophy). Addition: And a GodSon.

Education

Education is basically about sheer assimilation of information from a young age that often begins to mean less and less to the maturing child. What proportion of the child’s studies can be used outside the classroom? It is outside the classroom that children have to learn for themselves to interact socially, build character and relationships, and generally learn to do the right things from their own, often painful, experiences when mistakes are made that one cannot undo. English, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, Latin, French, geography, history, art, music, physical education, and religious studies are all common subjects to many. As an adult, how much of these teachings do you remember? Adults, I’m sure you remember much more vividly any experiences that changed your character and made you the much wiser person you are today. I am not saying these teachings are not important. They are. But what is knowledge without wisdom? It is dangerous. It is dangerous for the individual and for society as a whole—the individual who could end up on one extreme a drug addict or on the other the creator of a new weapon that could be the end of us all (not that we’re not susceptible to that situation already—addition). Guns have been created. There is no undoing that. We have only been able to go so far as to make laws against those who already own them against the law because of our inclination to retain them for sports, police, and the army. They have not been abolished. It would cost too much to undo. Apparently, another true example of society being focused towards wealth. One could argue peace. But I think it is a rather distorted form of peace. (Mind you, see Chapter 4, Guns—the actuality, p. 436.)

We have to start educating our children with lessons on making the right choices in life. Philosophy. A core subject—it should be. A truly important teaching. Give the children adult situations. Ask them what they would do. Tell them what they should and shouldn’t do. The close balance between right and wrong. (Mind you, see Chapter 8, Part B, Certification, p. 265.)

As a part of it, tell them the simple truths (and this book—addition) to give them the strength to do the right things. What is good. For themselves. For others. Effectively, this could mean introducing a new core academic subject which we could refer to as social studies. I feel that social studies could fill a major gap that exists in today’s education and, in so doing, influence success in participation and performance in other core academic subjects and in social interaction, actions, and activities outside of school to new levels. What do you think?

Education should not be purely based around the accumulation of knowledge, but it should be about teaching people to feel good about themselves (see Chapter 8, Part A, Being Cool, p. 87).

Someone who feels good in himself/herself gives out better vibes than someone who doesn’t. This means not only being more outward going to help others but feeling more content with society as a whole and wanting to do it credit rather than injustice. And injustice is, unfortunately, not a rare thing, and it never has been. It could be. Believe that it could.

Believe in yourself. Believe in others. Believe in society.

Life (and Our Nature)

God the beginning, the origin of all,

life expanding as space and time,

reaching out in a natural crawl,

along unfathomable wake so benign.

Elements embedded in energy so strong,

that all we see came to be;

The birds in the sky that sing their song,

the fish in the sea, the busy bee,

the tree so tall, the ant so small,

And the mysteries out there

that are for us to share.

Like the peach and the pear,

these fruits cannot compare to:

the actions we take

for all our sakes.

a sea so bloody unpredictable to you and me!

Laugh when you can swim a mile,

that the feelings animals do only

Realize this because we must,

Realize that we all must

with our nature not to trust,

but to really understand,

so that in nature’s open land,

open arms, hand in hand,

we can evolve until the end…

An end that does not even have to be…

Yes, we’re going to strive for infinity!

Intelligence

Intelligence is not purely what you know. And besides, knowing is believing. It is your depth of understanding everything you have the ability to sense. Of course, there is a limit to one’s intelligence. This is why we have to choose our interests to a greater and greater extent as we mature. There is so much to understand and know. The more you begin to understand, the more you realize how much you do not know. In a lifetime, one can barely touch on the things there are to know and understand in our lives. There are an infinite number of ways of doing the simplest task. Most of us just accept the chosen ways. This is the human way to move forward. (And for animals—addition.) If we saw every alternative option rather like a computer consciously (subconsciously, there is the ‘sporting touch’, a feeling to repeat good and quite accurate moves) to everything we did from day one what would happen?

Hold your right hand still. Now just for a few seconds, start to think about the infinite number of ways you could move that hand. There are an infinite number of ways. Imagine you have never moved that hand before. Now if you were to carry on thinking about the infinite number of options of trajectory, speed, orientation, etc., involving an infinitely precise range of angles and velocities of the hand, you would still be thinking about moving it until the day you died. But it would have never moved. We have a natural sense of rationality. Thank God.

It is human to accept the ways forward that we have taken (that’s what makes us who we are—addition). Be aware, though, that there are an infinite number of ways we could have progressed. But at this moment in time, there is only one NOW. Pause time. Everyone, everything is what it is, where it is, and nowhere or nothing else in this universe. Not only does one’s life have one path but the whole universe, or at least this world (for sure) most likely (addition, save for time not necessarily just continuing in one direction) has had one path.

This is why we must be careful to make the right choices. Not only for ourselves but intelligent decisions to keep the path of progression in this world on track for the future.

QUALITIES OF CHARACTER AND THEIR DEFINITIONS—

BASIC RECAP OF PERSONAL QUALITIES THAT ARE IN BOOK 2 (p.17)

Respect—accepting people for who they are, recognizing achievements but also understanding that everybody has good qualities (and bad). Everybody deserves respect—yourself included.

Loyalty—keeping a promise, being honest, acting unselfishly with regard to particular individual(s).

Trust—belief in the loyalty of others.

Pride—a higher form of respect.

Honour—a humble way of being proud.

Commitment/Perseverance—not giving up on something important.

Sense—thinking before acting.

Courage—taking up a challenge that you are not sure you are ready to face.

Generosity—sharing with others,

Control—not yielding to temptation and doing things in moderation or not. Rationality.

Punctuality—being on time for others.

Patience—accepting that some things take a lot of time, focusing on what is happening now rather than on what you are waiting to happen.

Love for Life—a will to live through anything.

Enthusiasm—enjoying what you do.

Tolerance—being understanding and patient.

Humour—the ability to see the light side of things, especially when you feel like all hope is lost.

Peace of Mind—the ability to feel good, learning not to worry about things, taking things a step at a time, keeping things in perspective.

Potential—everybody has this.
