THE DAY GOD SPOKE
OK Dan, Sunday will be a day that will change your life. I’ll pick you up at 9.30am outside your place.
Dan acknowledged Jack’s invite to Sundays Church service with a nod and a smile. He was curious about the things Jack had shared but having come from an atheist family background, he was very nervous. But he had said he would go and he had a reputation for keeping his word.
It was only after Sunday Dan would understand how prophetic Jack’s words turned out to be.
Jack & Dan were computer programmers with IBM in Leeds in the north west of England. They were both engaged in finding ways of improving security and tackling various cyber attacks that were getting more powerful and destructive as time passed. Both were highly regarded and because of this close work relationship, Jack had shared much about his faith in God and how Jesus Christ had transformed him, and made his life all new. Dan felt his life was fine but Jack had something Dan described as a real cool dude
but Jack explained it was called, the peace of God.
Jack waved as he left and Dan closed down his console ready to walk to his penthouse flat. He lived on the side of the River Aire, right in the town centre. He was from an Indian family and had come over when President Idi Amin of Uganda had thrown out his family. Many of the businesses in Uganda were run by Indian and Pakistan migrants, the British had encourage many to come to the colony. They had worked hard and now controlled much of the retail in the country. Amin wanted them removed, and his own people running these businesses, so Britain opened the doors for these highly skilled business people. He was just a new born when all this happened but he had benefited from his English education. Playing computer games had hooked him into computers, and he wanted to learn how it worked and programming just grew into his life study.
Jack was as usual right on time. Dan was a little apprehensive, what did he have to do, would he be embarrassed by his lack of knowledge. Jack just smiled when he told him and said just relax. The kids made it easier as they were all over him and just wanted his attention as brother and sister fought over him.
Jack Walker was married to Jane and they had two kids, boy and girl, Grace was 6, and Peter was a very active 9 year old. Jack & Jane had met at the Mecca Dance hall in the Merrion Centre, near the Leeds town centre. It was not love at first sight, but they enjoyed each other and eventually they fell in love. A year later they had a simple registration office wedding. They had not found Christ until there marriage went through a difficult time. Eventually, they sought council and met a wonderful Christian couple, who spent many hours helping them with there many problems. They became life long friends and eventually invited them to Church. After many months of resistance they both found peace with God and started a whole new life. The kids came along after that and had never known mum & dad without the added tag of Christian. Dan was always impressed with how the family was so secure and so full of fun. Rules were in place and the kids knew the boundaries, but within those boundaries the children seemed to thrive. Both were way ahead at school and both were very involved in the life of the Church. Jack had told him of the kids camps, youth rallies and outdoor trips that all the young people were encouraged to take part in. It all seemed to work for Jack’s family.
As the service time grew closer the hall began to fill and he felt a little easier as he saw the crowds. No chance of anyone noticing another Indian as he spotted at least 5 families of Indian extraction. That made him feel much less self conscious.
Jack was a Deacon in the Church, which meant he had work to do during the service. He was showing people to their seats today so Dan sat with Jane who kept introducing Dan to people as they came over to give their greetings. Dan noticed the Indians were looking over and sure enough one of the young family members came over to see who the new Indian attendee was. His name was Luke and was about a year younger than Dan at 21, but very much into computers. Before Luke got into his stride the music group called everyone to their seats so everything could get started.
The music exploded from the large speakers and a large band really got peoples attention with a real foot tapper. Dan was just taking it all in, he could not believe how modern this all was, and the music was dynamic and had a real beat to it. Somehow he had a Church organ and a choir in his mind. How wrong he was. The music flowed from one song to the next, nobody seemed to be in control but he reasoned some practice must be involved. As the songs became more reflective people seemed to be caught up with something not quite within the grasp of Dan. But he felt very light and felt a delightful warm pressure around him. People said later, it was Gods presence but to Dan it was just a nice sensation. Jack had returned during this time of Worship and that made Dan feel more secure.
The music finished and notices of future events, shared by an elder, then they had another song as people gave money into purple bags that were passed around the hall. Jack told him to let it pass as it was for those who were part of the Church.
Then the lights were turned up and the Pastor came to the glass pulpit to preach. Dan noticed everyone had a bible with them and Jack quickly passed him one he’d picked up from the back of the Church.
I’ll show you the number of the page.
whispered Jack.
The Pastor asked them to turn to 1 Thessalonians 5:1-9
"Today I believe we will hear the very voice of God. Speaking not only through the preached word but through spoken prophesy. The Lord visited me during the night and told me what I was to preach on and told me He would confirm the word from someone in the congregation. So I ask that each of you be ready to be used by God. If you feel you cannot be used because you are unworthy, think again! God used a donkey in the old testament so He will happily use you.
You should all be at
1 Thessalonians 5:1-9"
"Let me read . . . . Now as to the times and epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While they are saying peace and safety
! then destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labour pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
But you, brethren are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief, for you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness.
So then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk at night.
But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ."
"God here in this scripture tells us we will be warned when the things prophesied in scripture were about to take place. I know many of you have been encouraged to believe the Church will be caught up in the rapture or taken to heaven before the days of tribulation strike. I believe that is wrong, and we will be here when the Lord comes in the clouds and we who are alive will see his return. Those who are dead will be raised first to meet him in the air. You might ask, why bring this up now, surely we have had this debate for centuries. I bring it to you today because I believe the countdown to the end of age will start within the next 3 years.
God has alway’s warned his people of coming judgement. As you know the children of Israel were told what was to happen, almost blow for blow. Yes, sometimes years in advance, but often the same week!
The Lord woke me in the night and told me to prepare His people for the GREAT TRIBULATION.
Throughout history we have seen the Church go through times of tribulation. And we can be assured we will not escape this final tribulation. Let me read you a scripture from revelation.
Revelation 7:14 These are the ones who have come out of the Great Tribulation.
Now if you read the rest of the scripture you will find it is about the Church, as its a people from every nation, every tongue and creed, all have come out of the great tribulation."
The Pastor continued to take people through the scriptures and everyone had the sense that this was special.
Dan was caught up in the power of the presentation and it was as if 45 minutes had gone without time moving on. Even Jack who was making pages of notes was clearly moved by the sermon.
The Pastor asked the music team to come back and play softly, saying he wanted to give God a chance to confirm the message. As he sat down a man made his way forward and took a microphone and began to speak.
The Lord your God has seen the wickedness in the Earth, he has seen how nations turn their backs to the God who loves them and died to save them. Time will be no more, eternity is at the very door. Prepare my people. You will go into the wilderness and I will protect you for Time, times and half a time. Then the end will come. Do not be deaf to my voice or you will surely be subject to the full wrath of Satan who knows his time is short. Repent, prepare and wait for the Lords return. As I have said in scripture, keep watch.
The man went back to his seat. There was total stillness in the Church. The Pastor was white and every musician had stopped playing.
The Pastor rose and came to the microphone, People of God I believe God has spoken, but such is the magnitude of the prophetic word the elders and the Pastors will need to spend the next week in Prayer and seek the mind of God. Will you all join us. I want you all to fast from food except for your evening meal. The time you save use to pray and then come together next Sunday where we will share together what God has laid on our hearts. Meantime to those who do not know, Ned Brett, who has just given us the prophesy, has become the sign God was to give us. He, as some of you know was born deaf and dumb. Please go and talk to the miracle in our midst. God Bless you all, have a great week!
As soon as people got the word to move, they rushed to surround Ned and he looked totally overwhelmed. Not only had he been healed, he knew how to speak a language he had never actually heard. Dan looked on totally bemused about all this, and had blown away any thoughts of just having a look. Now he was wanting to know what all this meant!
Everyone had a strong opinion about the service and the coffee and tea team had more pots to wash than anytime in the history of the Church.
CHAP 2
A TESTING WEEK
Jack invited Dan home for lunch and Dan was really glad as he was bursting with questions.
The meal was full of noise and family chat, with the occasional references to the extraordinary morning service. Jack & Jane realised he wanted to ask serious questions, so waited with the explanations until the kids went out to play in the garden and they retreated to the front room.
Well Dan,
Jack asked, what do you need to know?
Dan smiled and said, where do I start!
What did the Pastor mean by time, times, and half a time and it was used in that prophesy as well?
Jack replied, "Well Dan, the Bible uses
