Sick of my iPad, I picked up the January 2022 issue and took it back to bed with a coffee. My partner, who buys North & South, said I must read the article about Argo (“Argo II” by Pete McKenzie). She knew some of the backstory and people involved. I had given up on North & South years ago when it seemed, to my rural lower North Island existence, that all the focus was on Auckland, the centre of the universe. There was little I could relate to.

What a pleasant surprise. I, taking me back to the gay millennials — we just need a lesbian version now. The Lido closing its doors was an emotional journey down memory lane and sparked curiosity about why the new owners would “obscure the windows so no one can look in or out”. Go figure!
