    The health benefits of chocolate have always had a long history dating back thousands of years. Legend has it that Montezuma, the great Aztec emperor who was the ruler of a extraordinary civilization in central Mexico in the 1st millennium AD, drank 50 golden chalices daily filled with chocolate as dense as molasses. Even then, chocolate was a luxury held with great regard. Much later in history, Christopher Columbus was credited with bringing cacoa beans to Spain following his third journey to the New World in 1502-1504.

    In more recent times, during World War II, the U.S. government recognized chocolate’s role in the nourishment and morale of the Allied Armed Forces, that it made special room for the shipping and importation of chocolate bars to troops.
