PREFACE
image_18.jpgCupid our symbol and relic of love, that special one who controls our thoughts and emotions
And massages the heart, evoking feelings of love
We enjoy so much ecstasy and all that heavenly bliss
The one who keeps time for the rhythmic beating of our hearts
With the power to speed it up or slow it down
The faster it throbs, the more hormones and juices produced
The more blind irrational and careless we get
As it progresses, it causes a void in our intentions and tolerance
We cease to comprehend and lose sight of the object of our desire
Then life becomes filled with confusion and complexities
The devil watching from the sidelines intervenes
He is the mastermind of all the aches and pain we feel
All the bad experiences in our relationships
He is the one that strives to deny us happiness
The cause of all unexplained consequences
He sticks our hearts with the sharp points of his three-pronged fork
And it takes us to hell with all of its agonizing pain and suffering
Our guardian angel ever watching, hovering close
Strives to ease and heal the ache and suffering
Cools the pain and hurt with soft air from fluttering wings
He rebuilds shattered hearts and lives as he touches them
With gentle strokes of his healing hand, and we are okay
But around us there is still chaos everywhere
REFLECTIONS OF ME
image_18.jpg(For Laurie-Ann)
I look deep into your mysterious eyes
And I see a subtle version of myself
Reflected there, staring back at me
Something tells me to look away
The compelling magnet of your intense stare
Keeps me looking there
That mystery it lurks within
Willing me to look beyond
To discover its concealed fugitive
It dares me to find a way
Bland, cold, dark, unfathomable
Yet! I detect secrecy, fire, passion, drive
If you are like me, then I fear for you
Life on the edge, no fear of the unknown
Inspired to chase
Fantasy, mysteries, and adventure
Concealing them within the deep caverns
Of your engorged heart where they are safe
No prying eyes, no busybody
No one knows
Only you, committed controller
I wish of an invention, something
That makes known my intention
To tap into the recesses of your soul
Retract your secrets, lay them bare
Would you go somewhere and hide?
Would you hold your head up with pride?
Is it God or the devil?
That would stand by your side?
Still you stand there staring at me
Big opaque eyes open wide!
LOVE OF A WOMAN
image_18.jpgYou run hysterical along the busy street
Shouting his name, screaming at everyone you meet
You cannot believe that they did not see
It did not just happen, not to someone so sweet
Your courage fails; your pace slows
It’s hard to accept that there is no reason to hurry
There’s no longer someone there to meet
And you clasp your hands and kneel there
In the street, lost soul among all the ice and sleet
They killed him today; you hugged his limp body
While he gasped your name and quietly went to sleep
Hands held high in despair, your bosom is red
That’s where you held his head even when dead
What can you do, where can you go
When your whole world has crumbled
Leaving you lost, trying to find your wits
Who did the world fail, or did we fail the world?
Why did it take life back?
In such enormous pain-filled bits.
And you stay there biting your lip
Because the ache you feel is biting into your flesh
Like the revengeful flogging from
a waterlogged whip
Vulnerability and strength of a woman
lies within her heart
There all the aches and cares of the world
are nursed and stored
Along with melodies, tenderness, and
champagne sips
Her tear-streaked face deserves love
Be considerate and kind, be good to her
She will return it with passion and sincerity
Your very own butterfly, fluttering lightly, tenderly
Around your rhythmic, pulsating heart
SOMEDAY
image_18.jpgToday I met the right person after all this time flirting with the wrong one
Then this door of happiness opened; I cannot
