About this ebook

Trevor J. Hawkeswood is a scientist who has experienced hundreds of paranormal events in his lifetime. In Light and Dark, he recounts some of these incredible interactions.

He believes that reality occurs on two separate but interwoven planes of existencethe Earth plane and the multiple levels of the spiritual planes, including the lower levels, from where the dark souls of humans who have died reach out to us.

He has experienced more than one hundred sightings of the shadow people, or black ghosts. He credits guardian angels with saving him from harm or certain death on a number of occasions. Hawkeswood also shares accounts of his numerous sightings of strange aerial phenomena he believes were caused by UFOs.

He has personally experienced clairaudiencevoices from beyondand precognition, or the ability to see the future. His detailed account of a unique out-of-body experience (OOBE) challenges what is known about this remarkable ability. His OOBE was unlike anything that has ever been described by others who have experienced itand he shares it all in Light and Dark. But it hasnt all been safe or pleasant. At eighteen, he survived a terrifying encounter with a demon gargoyle who tried to steal his soul energy after paralysing him.

A comprehensive handbook for the paranormal enthusiast, Hawkeswoods work also provides a glossary and reference list of English-language UFO books. In Light and Dark, he shares a lifetime of experiences, ideas, and theories about this fascinating field of study.

    Introduction

Ihave been a human being now for just over 56 years. In many ways it has been a miracle to reach this far as there have been numerous instances where I have been in peril and saved at the last moment. The Granville Train disaster in Sydney, Australia was one such perilous event which is outlined here for the first time. I believe that I am partially psychic. I have had numerous paranormal experiences mostly by myself but some with other members of my family and relatives. The majority are outlined in this book. There will be many who believe me and conversely, many others who won’t. I really am not fazed either way. I am presenting these observations and experiences as fact and truth. My interpretations may be wrong but I think that I am mostly correct. I strongly believe there is a supreme God, and that there are sub-Gods with lesser powers such as Arch-angels, who have created the Universe (Earth Plane) as well as the Spiritual World (Spirit Plane). The Spirit Plane is multi-dimensional. There are also good and bad Spirit World entities which are far less powerful than God and His higher Angels. The Spirit World and Earth Plane are both extremely complicated. For instance, as regards the Earth Plane, we still don’t have a good grasp of the total biological diversity of planet Earth because this biodiversity is incredibly immense. Scientists scoff at suggestions of life being present beyond the Earth yet recent studies have shown that there is water ice at the poles of both Mars and the Moon! (Life is usually associated with water). On the Moon there are also large green patches which have been detected at the rim of the Humboldt Crater which may be photosynthetic algae or bacteria. For too long Mankind has been living in the box called Earth, marking time and not concentrating or even considering the Spiritual Plane. I hope that this book will assist many to ask more questions about the paranormal and to research these subjects and possibly to add to the existing fragmentary and often conflicting information.

I thank my mother, sisters (Dianne and Linda) and brother (Brian) for assistance as well as my uncles, the late Mr N.G. Barlow (who resided in Toowoomba, Queensland) and the late Mr R.W. Barlow (who resided in Townsville, Queensland). Mr Craig Seay of Nashville, Tennessee, poured many hours into the creation of the awesome covers as well as the striking text illustrations. I also thank my current wife Adriana (real name withheld by request) and my first wife Angie (real name withheld by request) for their interest and support, even if both think I am mad! I am grateful to Mr Sam T. of Londonderry, New South Wales for much assistance and interest in this book.

Special thanks are due to UFO and alien authority, Mr Stanton T. Friedman of Canada, for reviewing the chapter on UFOs and improving what I have written about this subject. Dr D.H. Parsons of the Bliss-Parsons Institute in Missouri, United States of America read through the whole book and provided encouraging comments.

Finally, I am exceedingly grateful to the publishers and editors of Balboa Press for the great job that they have performed on this little book. I welcome discussion and debate from the public and I may be contacted via www.calodema.com or through the publishers at www.balboa.com.

    Chapter 1

The Shadow People (Black Ghosts) in Australia and the United States

    of America

Ihave been visited and harassed by these entities or beings during most of my life from time to time. They are the Shadow People, also called by others Shadow Beings or Shadow Men, but I like to call them the Black Ghosts, because they are indeed creepy and ghost-like and are dark grey, dark brown to dense black in colour. According to Deena West Budd (2010), Shadow People is a new paranormal term, which was apparently brought to the forefront by the American TV personality Mr. Art Bell, the former host of the United States late night talk show Coast to Coast AM. But, according to Budd, the phrase appeared many years earlier as the title of a 1953 radio drama Hall of Fantasy in which there were malignant entities born of darkness!

The first reports of the Black Ghosts in written history were made by various Roman soldiers who were stationed in England around about 40 A. D. Reports were sent to the Emperor in Rome telling of peculiar black entities resembling human shadows. These human-like shadows were observed to materialize through walls, fences and trees. Some were even reported to possess fiery red, evil eyes. It is also reported that some of the Roman soldiers tried to capture a number of the Shadow Beings in order to send them to Rome for evidence but unfortunately, none were ever captured.

In ancient medieval times, the Shadow People were considered to be demons which had been summoned through witchcraft in order to emotionally disturb an intended (usually innocent) victim. In more recent times, approaches to the study of the Black Ghosts have been more scientific. However, despite these studies, the usual belief of the traditional stonewall scientist, is that the Shadow People phenomenon is nothing more than hallucination, or a product of optical illusions. However, this view is more likely based on a fear on the part of the scientists because they are unable to place these beings in an equation, a test-tube or plastic bottle!

It is interesting to note that even some famous writers have known something about the Shadow People. For instance, mention should be made of the celebrated French author, Guy de Maupassant, who wrote a story in 1887 entitled "Le Horla (The Horla") about shadow-like beings who drank milk and water and who stalked unsuspecting human prey. Based on what we know now about the Black Ghosts, it is obvious that de Maupassant’s story is probably based on a mixture of imagination, dreams and a little bit of reality.

Even the Native American Cherokee indians describe a part of their mythology where there appears an evil witch known as the Raven Mocker who takes the form of a spectral bird and shape-shifts into a humanoid, shadow-like phantom. These beings are believed to steal the souls of the ill or dying. However, the Raven Mocker is alleged to fear the medicine man and therefore does not enter or approach a tent where one resides. A medicine man was usually sought to watch over the sickly and also to watch over the bodies of the recently deceased, because, as according to myth, once the body was buried, the Raven Mocker could not steal the soul. There are numerous other reports in the literature and on various Internet websites (see Reference list below) of the Shadow People, describing sightings in more recent times.

So what else is known about the Shadow People (or the Black Ghosts as I prefer to call them)? Budd (2010) also notes that the Shadow People are mostly humanoid in shape, but either lack defined features or resemble actual people. In other words they may not have facial features such as eyes, nose, ears or hair, fingers or toes and may simply appear as a silhouette. Many appear to lack a body below the waist, but others definitely have movable legs. They can be either solid or wispy, surrounded by a mist or smoke-like substance. Many times they have manifested as two-dimensional entities. They normally have the appearance of a male human, but generally they lack any normally-defined gender characteristics. Some witnesses describe the movement of the Shadow People as though they danced from one wall to the next. Many of them appear to wear a fedora-like hat and have therefore been termed Hatted Shadow Beings. Others are hooded and/or cloaked (long coated). Even young children as old as four years have often described a tall gingerbread-like man with a hat. One of the main characteristics of the Black Ghosts is their speed when spotted. They often move extremely rapidly and often in a disjointed manner, but have at times been observed to move slowly. They often rapidly zip into corners of rooms, flash through walls, dart into closets, or disappear behind television sets, shrubs and buildings. They are often seen only through the peripheral vision of a observer. According to Budd (2010), there are been a number of reports of people being chased and attacked by various Shadow People. There are even reports of people (mainly women) being raped or attempting to be raped by Shadow People! However, the Black Ghosts are reported to be usually largely benign in causing physical harm but can wreck havoc on the immediate environment, just like a poltergeist. Some of the Black Ghosts are able to manipulate parts of the physical world through the use of sound and the movement of physical objects such as furniture, crockery, books, tools, stones, etc. But all of this requires much energy, and the Black Ghosts are apparently not able, in most cases, to generate enough negative energy to even sustain their presence for any length of time let alone throw or move objects about the place. But, also like poltergeists (i.e. noisy ghosts or destructive ghosts), many are able to cause electric lights to flicker, and to cause interference to television sets and other electrical devices. However, they normally act like the typical spook in scaring people, without any direct or deliberate harm, that is of course, if one does not encourage them! I think ignoring them is the best way to prevent further visitations.

What is disturbing however, is the knowledge that the Black Ghosts may try to make direct contact to a person through dreams or astral projection in order to be allowed entry or attachment to that person. They have been reported in dreams to appear similarly as they appear during other times, i.e. they are described as a dark grey to black mass of energy or silhouette with generic human features, such as head, body and legs and are within the height ranges of human males. There are other smaller Shadow People who are probably females.

An interesting book has been published recently by Jason Offutt entitled Darkness Walks—The Shadow People Among Us. He cites numerous accounts of people and their visitations by the Shadow People. These accounts display great variation, with the common theme being that they are black and mostly human-like in form. There appear to be some instances of Shadow Beings with hoods and coloured eyes ranging from yellow to red to white. Most of them appear to be men with hats and/or gowns/coats. Offutt has provided a list of eight main types of Shadow People: Benign Shadows, Shadows of Terror, Red-eyed Shadows, Noisy Shadows, Angry Hooded Shadows, Attacking Shadows, Hat Men and Shadow Cats. There is also a mention of a Shadow Gorilla!! Surely some of these must be hallucinations!

As per the case with my experiences, the Black Ghosts when first encountered can be somewhat frightening, and apparently, they can feed on a person’s fear. However, they appear to be rather scared of (or repelled by) lights, and in particular, very bright lights (e.g. lights from electric heaters and fluorescent lights). I personally believe that if an encountee sleeps with a small light on, that should be enough to prevent the Black Ghosts from manifesting. Jason Offutt in his book Darkness Walks also notes that the Shadow People don’t like music although he did not state what type of music but I am sure they would hate Heavy Metal! (as well as the neighbors!). Some people believe that the Shadow People do not have much power or energy and therefore are relatively easy to repel, while others believe that they can be enticed by humans into the physical realm (Earth plane) just like the typical ghost. If this is the case, one should not enter their presence or permit them into one’s life. However, I am reasonably certain that these Shadow People are really black ghosts. They are the souls of humans who have been evil or lacked goodness and were not able to obtain enlightenment because of their bad deeds during their lives in the physical world (i.e. on Earth). It is also possible that the more hideous Shadows are the black ghosts of aliens (i.e. Extraterrestrial Biological Entities—EBEs). Even aliens may have a spirit or soul!

One of my first experiences with the Black Ghosts was when I was about 10 years old living in Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains west of Sydney, New South Wales. One night during 1966, I had experienced a disturbing sleep and found myself gradually awakening. In my room I thought I saw a hooded and cloaked figure suddenly zip under my brother’s bed. The speed of the dark being was incredibly fast but I was fairly certain that what I thought was a black witch, was cornered underneath the bed. I yelled out for someone in the house to switch the light on. I said to my mother when she finally appeared at the bedroom door (the light switch was near the door well away from the bed) that I was scared and thought that there was a witch under my brother’s bed and that it had trapped itself there. However, Mom and I hesitantly looked under the bed and there was nothing there just some small boxes, miscellaneous toys, pieces of carpets and scraps of rolled-up paper. The witch, if it had have been there in the first place, was no longer there now. I was rather surprised but was fairly certain an entity had tried to hide there. A similar experience has been listed in the book by Jason Offutt, Darkness Walks (see pages 121-122, The Shadow Under the Bed). A nine-year old girl (presumably living in the United States of America) disturbed a Black Ghost materializing in her room; once the
