    Prologue

    Pillow Talk

    I was encouraged to give the story of conception for this book. So, here it is.

    I was lying on my girlfriend’s bed, on a particular pillow (see technique section), and she screeched, Get off that pillow!

    So I, being an antagonist mixed with a slight touch of masochism, grabbed the pillow and said, "Oooh, what? This pillow?"

    She screeched again, and I continued to taunt her and press for an explanation. I pleaded, In the name of our friendship, ’fess up! You’re being weird, and this behavior is unfounded!

    Why would my dear friend not give me an answer about a pillow?

    Finally, she ’fessed up that it was her masturbation pillow.

    What was that?

    Before she explained, I took the time to berate her for not trusting me as a friend. I knew, obviously, with her reaction to my inquiry, that this must be taboo.

    Once she explained in detail, I—or rather, we—noted that this was sad. It was sad socially, societally, and between old friends (for more than a decade) that either of us would feel shame in a beautiful and natural
