The Jeremiah Stage
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,
says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
NLT
Jeremiah 1:19 They will fight you, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the LORD have spoken.
The purpose in writing this book is to humble myself and give thanks to the Lord, who has allowed me to continue breathing His precious gift of life. You will have a better understanding of why I say these things, when you read this book in its entirety.
I remember so clearly my coming of age. I was a teenager, and, like all other energized kids, I was out to have fun every living moment. Well, I tried my best to enjoy each day—at least until the street lights came on at night. So vivid in my mind is the day my neighbor’s grandson, Gary, was out painting his auntie’s house, and he asked me if I would like to help. The fact that he would pay me made this a no brainer,
because we were talking about the penny candy store days. To get a kid’s attention quickly was to let him know that money was being given, so I was all for this deal. Never did I suspect that the Lord had much more in store than money for some penny candy.
When we got to the house that was to be painted, there was a long ladder resting against the roof. It seemed to reach to heaven, which was scary to this kid in case I had to climb the thing and paint. By this time, the penny candy wasn’t looking to be too necessary. Then Gary said, All you have to do is hold the ladder while I am on it and hand me a paint brush.
Those words were joy to my ears and once again the excitement of buying the penny candy returned.
As he was painting he began to ask me about school. I told him how, at times, I would get upset with the kids that made jokes about my clothes or shoes with holes.
