About this ebook

In Evil on the Prowl, a divorced former schoolteacher becomes a well-respected church leader. The causes of her divorce as Tito and Tongai were informed one afternoon is because, according to Nhau her ex-husband, she is an unscrupulous character, a woman of questionable ethics. All she thinks of is making money by whatever means possible, however dubious.

Meanwhile, for weeks on end, the city of Marondera is gripped by a crime wave as groups of criminals operate with impunity - robbing, abducting, raping, and printing and circulating counterfeit money. Ordinary people disappear without trace. Men taken from the streets are drugged with numbing regularity then transformed into sex machines and subjected to violent sex escapades without them knowing it is happening.

A team of police detectives follow a number of leads in the days and weeks to come, but none of them yield what each has promised at the beginning. The police is increasingly frustrated by its apparent failure to get rid of the criminals as crime in the city is on the increase.

Then, Wanzai and her son are murdered in cold blood, and a suspected thief, is caught at the funeral wake of the deceased in the middle of the night. Intelligence received from the suspect reveals that a religious shrine in a village in Domboshava is a centre for dubious activities other than being solely a place for warship. At the centre of it all is one woman, Her Anointed One.

The much awaited for Annual Conference was now almost over. It had been two days of praying, singing and testimonials by members of the congregation. ‘Her Anointed One’, Apostle Nikola, the church leader looked exhausted but satisfied with the work done during the two days of conference. The conference venue was the shrine of the Revival Church of Damascus in Domboshava. The conference was meant to provide members of the congregation from all walks of life a great opportunity to pray for themselves as well as the nation.

For the fifth time in a row, the conference was once again held over a two-day period. As had become of tradition, part of the second day was set aside for members of the congregation to give testimonies of their blessings received during the last year in praise of the Divine Guidance received from above.

Three guest speakers from Botswana, South Africa and Zambia had taken turns respectively to preach at the event the day before. To fill the gaps between events of the conference, several renowned gospel artists and members of the church provided entertainment to the now exhausted, but spiritually uplifted congregation.

It was now time for testimonials. Several members of the congregation stood up one after another to give praise for the Divine Guidance received from above and to thank ‘Her Anointed One’, Apostle Nikola for her untiring endeavours in shepherding the flock. In return ‘Her Anointed One’ gracefully accepted the praises and recognition rendered towards her by the congregation. The testimonies were as compelling as they sounded or appeared realistic.

One man who claimed to work as a delivery messenger for a company in Harare said, I was involved in a road accident with my motorbike and fractured both my legs and one arm. The arm was badly fractured that the doctors had proposed to amputate it. However, this did not happen because I asked for the Divine Guidance from above and my prayers were answered. At the hour of my need, I called ‘Her Anointed One,’ and asked her to plead for my arm not to be amputated because it was one of my important limbs I needed to stay at work and be able to feed my family. In the event that I lost my arm, I would be fired and would not be able to get another job without both arms. When the doctors later made an x-ray on the broken arm, they were surprised to discover that all the broken bones had moved back into position and the arm was healing. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom, Said the man concluding his testimony.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One, shouted the congregation.

A young woman who claimed to have just graduated at a university said, "I was preparing to write my final examinations. To my horror, I suddenly started panicking, something that I had never done before. As a result, whatever I studied could not stick in my mind. Whenever I tried to remember, even things that I had known before, everything went blank. My mind could not remember anything. I told a friend at college who gave me a telephone number and advised me to call and explain my dilemma.

"When I called the number, a female voice answered me. I did not know who it was, but I went on to explain my situation. I was then told to repeatedly recite the following words with all my heart; ‘I have worked hard to learn but I cannot remember anything that I have studied, please help me. I know you are there and I believe in you and your miracles. All I need now is for you to make my brain remember everything that I have learnt. Lord you are my only saviour and I put my success in your hands.’ By the time I had finished reciting those words, I had not realized that the person who had answered my call had already hung up. All I remember is I was crying out loud for Divine Guidance from above.

The following morning before I went for my examinations, I found myself reciting the same words from deep down my heart. As I stepped into the examination room I said Lord, please bring into this examination only the things that I have managed to study and can still remember. From that day onwards, I only got examination papers on the things that I had studied.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

The young woman continued, Since then I recognized that there is some Divine Guidance in our lives. I later learnt from my friend that the person who had answered my call was none other than Her Anointed One’. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom."

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

Wanzai stood up holding her last baby girl and said, For years I was married and lived happily with my husband. But with time we started having problems. I soon figured out that it was because I was not able to give my husband children. I asked friends and relatives to help me but nothing came out of it. Then one day I heard about this church and its work. I immediately came here for help and today, I stand before you, holding not my first, not my second, but my third child. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

After Wanzai, a group of women stood up and walked to the front of the church. They were all pregnant and the evidence was there for all to see. One of the women, Maud said, We are a living testimony for the good work of the church. All seven of us, we have one testimony to make. Just like the previous speaker we had problems conceiving until we came here for help. The results are there for all to see. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

Many more members of the congregation came forward to give testimonies of the blessings they claimed they had received. Many of the blessings had come in the form of a business venture, a marriage, a wedding, a new born baby, an employment opportunity, a promotion, a house bought or built, a property acquired and many other accomplishments made. Every time a testimony was given, the individuals always remembered to say, May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom. In turn the congregation did not fail to chant the words; Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

After listening to all the testimonials that were there to be heard, one Church Elder in charge of the conference proceedings stood up and announced that there were a few women who were present who needed the help of the church. The congregation was informed that the women had problems conceiving and bearing children. A number of them had come along with their husbands.

The women were called to the front of the church and asked individually to tell the congregation of their problems and desires. The women went on one after the other to explain their problems and to request the congregation to support them in their prayers in asking for Divine Guidance and intervention from above to open their wombs and become fertile.

Thereafter, asking Apostle Nikola to receive the women in question, the Church Elder said, Her Anointed One, may we ask you to answer to your call. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One, chanted the congregation.

Apostle Nikola stood up from where she was sitting and graciously walked forward to where the women were and shook hands with each of them before standing in the pulpit in front of the church. Addressing the women she said, Ladies, this day the Divine Guidance from above is calling upon you His troubled daughters to come back to His Kingdom. The Divine Guidance is requiring you to arise and take your place in the Kingdom of the Most High. Seek the Divine guidance from above with all your hearts, souls and strength. It is time for you to say to the devil ‘enough is enough’ be gone and never come back,

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

"Ladies, to receive the Divine Guidance from above, you are required to hold your heads up high for you are His favoured daughters and you have all his attention. Had it not been that you are favoured and His attention is upon you, you would not have found this church and you would have missed the opportunity to receive the Divine Guidance from above. Mothers to be, you have the attention of the Divine Guidance from above. The congregation that you have around you is going to help you to pray for your turn to receive the Divine Guidance from above as many others before you have done. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you and let Him release the Divine Guidance from above into your lives.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

You mothers to be, you have been taunted most of your lives because you were considered barren. You could not bear to live all your days without the gifts that every other woman has. By seeking the Divine Guidance from above you have decided from now onwards you will put your trust in the Lord and you will experience the changes you deserve. You have had enough and you decided that you will let the Divine Guidance from above take charge of your lives. You have done well mothers to be to perch your tents in his Kingdom for him to drive away the devil for you. Praying and praising Him every day I am certain that He will pour His Divine Guidance from above so that your wishes may be granted.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

The church will pray with you for days, weeks, months and years to come. It will never leave you alone until you have received the Divine Guidance from above in full measure. We believe that by seeking Divine Guidance from above you are seeking the end to your inward wailing, you are determined to pray for your redemption and as the church we will support you until the King responds and pours his Divine Guidance upon you. You are not the first and neither will you be the last. A lot more are going through similar distresses. Today we say together with you enough is enough and the distress should stop now.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One.

The devil has terrorised you long enough. Congratulations that you have made the right decision and we call for the Divine Guidance from above to help and to save His distressed flock. Together with you, we throw ourselves on the mercy of his Kingdom. We turn in repentance to Him and you will all go home when the time comes filled with Divine Guidance from above and having your wishes granted, declared Her Anointed One, as she concluded her ‘message of hope’.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One, chanted the congregation as ‘Her Anointed One,’ finished her work as had been requested of her. She in turn in acknowledgement bowed her head affably.

Instructing the women with the intention of showing the humble person ‘Her Anointed One’ was, the Church Elder said, "To you mothers to be I instruct you to fear the Divine Guidance from above and not to fear ‘Her Anointed One’. She is only who she is, because she received the calling to be what she is. Therefore you should fear Him that called ‘Her Anointed One’ to her calling and not ‘Her Anointed One’, herself.

"What I am saying is ‘Her Anointed One’ recognizes and expects that the congregation should strongly honour every one called through the Divine Guidance from above and respect them according to the scriptures, but we should never fear them in such a way that they take the very place of the Divine Guidance that should lead in our lives. The spiritual truth is because they labour in word and teaching we are encouraged to honour them with double honour but never to fear them. Therefore always consider ‘Her Anointed One’ only as a vessel that is being used by the Divine Guidance from above to minister, those near and those afar for the glory of His Kingdom.

"During your stay here, as you read the Holy Book, you will recognize that God called his chosen ones and used them to do his work. It is in that perspective that ‘Her Anointed One’ was called and therefore should be regarded as such. Her calling does not allow her to use or manipulate to her advantage the Divine Guidance from above. She did not call herself but the Divine Guidance from above called her.

"As Paul said in his epistle to the Ephesians, the Divine Guidance from above had the prerogative to give some apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers for the enlightening of the body of his only begotten Son. Her Anointed One has therefore invited you today to come in the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Divine Guidance from above. By so doing you become perfect daughters and measure up to the stature of the fullness expected of those who want to be part of His Kingdom through growing and maturing spiritually in your relationship with the Divine Guidance from above.

"Henceforth you shall be no more chided barren women who are tossed to and fro and are left to carry in bitterness the shame of being childless. The Divine Guidance from above shall bring to shame each one of them who has taunted you calling you barren. No more shall they lie in wait to ridicule you. By speaking the truth of the desires of your hearts, love shall be shown unto you to prove that whosoever seeks Divine Guidance from above shall be blessed in abundance. Therefore, be optimistic mothers to be. Rejoice you who are seeking the Divine Guidance from above and the entire congregation because the Divine Guidance from above is not for one single person, but for every soul that loves and fears the Lord.

Before I conclude let me warn you mothers to be, we are not and we must never be a materialistic congregation that only wants the blessings and all good things provided by the Divine Guidance from above. Instead we should fear, honour, seek, love, serve and obey the Lord, the creator of heaven and earth, and live by His word. We praise him for giving His congregation, ‘Her Anointed One’ that we may lead a blessed and peaceful life according to his Divine Guidance from above.

By His grace, wisdom, understanding and desire, ‘Her Anointed One shall always be a faithful steward of His congregation and ensure that we all receive, benefit, enjoy and live by the Divine Guidance from above. Mothers to be, you are exhorted to make good use of ‘Her Anointed One’ and enjoy the fruits of her labour that will surely boost the blessings you will receive. As the congregation prays together with you in search of Divine Guidance we will all rejoice through the blessings you will receive as the fruits of our labour.

Turning to Her Anointed One, the Elder said, The humility and humbleness that your carry your cross ‘Her Anointed One’ is a noble lesson to all members of the congregation and the church. We count ourselves blessed to have you to shepherd us all the way to His Kingdom. May the Lord bless you ‘Her Anointed One’ and use you to bring many more saved souls to His Kingdom, concluded the Church Elder.

Praise the Lord for his Divine Guidance from above and may you live longest Her Anointed One, chanted the congregation.

Thereafter there was singing and praying and more singing. The congregation shook hands and hugged each other in jubilation as the conference came to a close. Soon members were boarding their hired buses to their different destinations. Quietly and silently the noise eventually died away and almost everyone was gone except for the few women who stayed behind to receive spiritual healing and get help to have children.

Apostle Nikola or ‘Her Anointed One’ as the members of her church called her, had divorced from her husband Nhau, many years earlier, long before she formed and led the Revival Church of Damascus. The causes of the divorce as Tito and Tongai would learn one afternoon was because, according to Nhau, he had married a wrong character, a woman of questionable ethics. All she thought of was making money by whatever means possible, however dubious.

A few minutes later, Tito walked across the road into the supermarket and bought himself another drink. Then he retraced his footsteps back into the shade. As he approached the shade of the bus stop, he noticed that Nhau was still sitting there with his bottle of beer closed. That is when Tito struck a conversation with him.

Sorry my brother, it’s not my business, but I cannot fail to notice that you have not opened your beer yet, though you have been holding on to it for almost half an hour now. If you need an opener, I have one here with me. I hear beer tastes much better when it is freezing cold, but in this hot sun, I don’t think it will be cold for long, said Tito handing out an opener to Nhau.

Oh boy, I cannot believe I bought a beer. I am not even a regular drinker my Elder and neither have I ever tasted beer before, said Nhau with a perplexed face and some level of indignation.

I am not quite surprised, remarked Tito. When I first saw you coming to sit here, though I did not pay much attention, somehow I thought something was weighing down heavily on your mind.

You are very observant my Elder, aren’t you? Are you a cop or a psychologist or something like that? I must be looking terrible. Now I have even bought a beer and I have not realized it. Maybe if I had opened it I would have drunk it without even recognizing that I was drinking beer, responded Nhau without giving Tito an opportunity to say who he was.

It is domestic affairs my Elder, Nhau continued. My former wife damaged my car, smashing the windscreen and deflating the tyres, not to mention vandalizing the windows of my house.

Why did she have to do that? inquired Tito.

"Elder, it’s a long story. You don’t want to hear it. But since you have asked, I will tell you. I divorced from my wife a couple of years ago after realizing that our marriage was not working. After the divorce she took me to court claiming maintenance.
