About this ebook

Traditionally we have in the Churches the 'Rebecca' type of ministry. This means someone will stand and sing and then someone will stand and preach. Normally this occurs on a stage and behind a pulpit. For years this method has been used and the results of such a method have been pathetic. Less than one percent of all Christian believers in the world at this time in Church history are involved in the extension of God's Kingdom. The reason is because the Rebecca system of teaching revolves around the single individual.

    THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY.

    It was a sunny Thursday morning and I was driving my car through the suburbs of a small South Coast town in Natal. I was in a hurry, as I did not want the meeting to begin without me. I was a young inexperienced Pastor who was keen on evangelism and we were having this meeting to plan how to reach this coastal area for Jesus. My mind was on the meeting worrying about who would be there and what I would say. Every now and then, I would send the Lord a short plea for help from the car, hoping He would cover me with His Spirit and give me the wisdom I needed for the day. The last thing I expected was a prophetic event that morning that would change me forever.

    Warner Beach is a small fishing village on the South Coast of Natal. Many retired folk and newly married couples live in the area. In 1974 there was no revival and there was only one Pentecostal church in the area. This church had been lost in legalism and so there was a rebellion amongst the young people to attend church and serve the Lord. I was called to the area, fresh out of the Assemblies of God, Bible College. I was filled with zeal for the Lord, had limited bible knowledge and not much else.

    The road I was travelling on was in the heart of the suburbs and the beautiful Jacaranda trees lined the pavements. It was the area where a number of retired, wealthy people stayed. The houses were neat and their large gardens were well attended to. The shade that came from these trees always gave a welcome relief from the heat of the day.

    As I began to appreciate the trees and their shade from inside my ‘Volksie,’ the Spirit of God fell on me and I burst into tears. I found myself weeping uncontrollably. My tears prevented me from driving any further, so I pulled the car over onto the pavement. I stopped and tried to pray but could not. All I seemed to do was cry uncontrollably. I decided not to resist the urge to weep because somewhere inside of me,

    ––––––––

    I knew this was some divine manifestation and the work of the Holy Spirit. I must have sat there for at least half an hour weeping and not being able to stop.

    Eventually the weeping subsided for a short while. At this time my mind was trying to find some scripture I might have read, to justify this weeping. While I searched my memory for scriptural justification, ‘His Voice’ from deep within me began to speak.

    Andre I want you to go into this house and speak the words I give you. ‘His Voice’ spoke gently to me. I knew the Holy Spirit well enough, to recognise His instruction.

    I looked out the window of the car and saw I had parked next to a face brick house that had a face brick boundary wall that completely surrounded the property. There was a small door that seemed to be the only way into the protected property.

    Lord, are you sure? I asked quietly, aware that my heart was loudly pounding within me. I began to tremble with fear. I did not quite understand what was going on. Although I tried hard to remember, I could not find a precedent in my short spiritual life, for what was happening to me. I also knew that the Lord gave instructions that were always right for a situation.

    I grabbed my Bible, climbed out my car and walked up to the door. I rang the bell hoping whoever lived there had gone on an extended holiday. I rang the doorbell again. I was aware of my pounding heart that was about to burst at any given moment. A tall elderly man opened the door. As I looked at him I burst into tears again and blundered;

    Thus saith the Lord.

    Before I could say another word, he pulled me into the house and instructed me to follow him to his study. I stood in the doorway of His study and found myself weeping uncontrollably again. As he sat down and while I was looking at him, the weeping stopped. I then became aware of the incredible anointing that was pouring on me from on high. I began to prophesy as the Holy Spirit urged me.

    The Lord says you have a decision to make within the next two days. The Lord requests that you make a decision for him based on the Word of God and not the tradition of the Church. The Lord asks you to consider the Holy Spirit and what He wants to do with the Church. He asks you to surrender to Him, the selfish agenda you have in your heart. The Lord asks you to allow him to move in the Church and that you do not hinder his plans, stand in the way or frustrate His grace. If you stand in the way he will bring division and tear the church apart and remove its power.

    Tears began to stream down the man’s face. He looked at me and asked:

    Do you know whom I am?

    No Sir I do not. All I know is that the Holy Spirit sent me here this morning with a word for you. I replied.

    I am the Moderator of the Dutch Reform Church for this South Coast area and we have a synod on Thursday. We will be making a decision of whether to allow this new youth movement called, ‘Jeug Aksie’ into our churches in this area. We are aware of this new thing in the church. It might be from the Holy Spirit or it might not be from Him.

    Sir I believe it is from the Holy Spirit and it would not be wise to speak against this move of God. I hoped I was encouraging the work of the Lord.

    I knew about this youth movement within the biggest conservative Afrikaans church in our country. The Lord had for the last few years, prior to this prophetic event, tried to revive his people within this church. For years the Dutch Reform Church controlled the hearts and minds of most of the Afrikaans community.

    ––––––––

    Clinging to their man made traditions and ignoring what the Holy Spirit was beginning to do had helped resist the work of the Holy Spirit amongst their members. This youth movement was reviving the youth in the Church. In the last year the young people had come under consistent pressure to stop the renewal and revival. This pressure had come from the older conservative ministers.

    It is time you left. Please go. I watched him as a strange look came over his face and a dark fierceness entered into his eyes. I left.

    I sat in the car shaking my head. I was confused and thrilled with the sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit on me.

    What has just happened? I asked myself. This is something I never learned in Bible School.

    I drove away from the Dominee’s house; confused, excited, fearful and thrilled. I was in awe that the Holy Spirit could use me in such a miraculous way. My emotions were in a shambles.

    I did not understand what had happened, but I hoped at that point that the Lord would use me again like that. I didn’t realise the significance of that day until years later. It was the first prophetic event of my life and the beginning of a prophetic ministry that has taken me years to understand and appreciate.

    The South Coast synod decided against the renewal in the church. They rejected the new move of the Holy Spirit and they have being paying the price for their foolishness ever since.

    THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY; THE ONLY WAY.

    And He gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ;

    Ephesians 5; 11, 12

The reason is because the Rebecca system of teaching revolves around the single individual. The person who stands and delivers becomes the centre of the churches attraction. This system denies ministry contributions from all the Saints in the local fellowship. From God’s point of view the whole church should be involved in ministry. The scripture is clear. It is time for the Pastors and Teachers in the Church to teach all the people of God to minister.

    Many of the Pastors who lead the flock of God have not fulfilled the duty of teaching the people of God to minister the Word to one another and to evangelise the World. The call from the Holy Spirit in these last days is; ‘Let my people go.’ It is the duty and responsibility of all Pastors and Teachers in the Church, to train the people of God to minister the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

    The problem that leadership in the Churches have is that they are caught in old useless traditions. Many live in the past, doing that which has been done for decades, never questioning why they do, what they
