    Marcel Proust was born in 1871 and was one of the major French writers of the 20th century. In 1919 he was awarded the Prix Goncourt, France’s most prestigious literary award, for Within a Budding Grove, the second volume of his monumental seven-part novel In Search of Lost Time. The novel as a whole interweaves a chronicle of the society of the Belle Époque with an exploration of the nature of love and aesthetic, philosophical and moral reflections, resulting in a groundbreaking work that stunned his contemporaries and inspired lively critical debate that shows no signs of abating even today.
