About this ebook
As an only child of a devout Christian couple, Kelly is raised to become the kind of daughter any parent would be proud of. Every choice she makes is grounded on the values and lessons her parents instilled in her. Kelly has a steadfast hold on her beliefs, one of which is to give herself only to the man she will marry. Her boyfriend believes otherwise and when Kelly refuses to give in to his desires, he leaves her for another woman.
Kellys attempts to get over her heartbreak and establish a successful business both fail. She decides to take her chance in New York where a job as a real estate broker awaits. Living a fastpaced life lifts Kellys mind off her previous disappointment. With a great job and a more luxurious life, all Kelly needs is a man who will love and respect her. Kevin, an investment banker, enters Kellys life and they immediately fall in love.
Married life suits both Kelly and Kevin, until an undisclosed part of Kevins past comes out in the open. Upon learning that she has been infected with HIV, Kelly finds out that Kevin had been in a homosexual relationship with a man who has AIDS. With the disease taking a toll on Kellys body, Kevin decides to end their marriage and go on with their lives separately. Betrayed and brokenhearted, Kelly goes back home to her parents, where she spends the remaining days of her life.

The Growing Years
It was a cold and dreary November day and Kelly’s spirits were low. She had been up all night studying for an economics exam and still felt that she had done poorly. Kelly was very upset because she wanted so desperately to some day become a real estate broker. It had been a dream for as long as she could remember and it seemed that the dream was slowly slipping away. She blamed her shortcomings on her boyfriend Todd.
Todd and Kelly had dated all through high school and decided to attend the same college, but ended up going separate ways. Todd was attending Harvard Law School while Kelly decided to stay close to home and was attending the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business on a full scholarship. Kelly considered herself to be a smart girl who made rational decisions except when it came to Todd. Todd had been pressuring her to have sex with him and she was just not ready. Kelly’s parents were devout Christians and Kelly was their only child. They constantly doted on her and gave her everything that she wanted. She in return, always followed their rules and vowed to be the child that any parent would be proud to call their own.
How could Todd not want to respect her wishes? He had threatened to find someone who would love him and give in to his desires. While Kelly loved Todd with all her heart, she still did not want to go against the wishes of her parents and the teachings that they had instilled in her. Why did Todd want to make her life so difficult? They were many states apart and Kelly felt that Todd could still be with someone else while confessing his undying love to her. How would she know? She was faced with a dilemma that was causing her unbearable strife and sleepless nights.
Kelly finally made the long trek from class to her dorm room to wait on Todd’s call. They usually talked about twice a day between classes and then again at night. Todd’s phone calls helped her to make it through their time spent apart. He was the love of her life and someday they would spend their lives together as husband and wife. She got excited just thinking about their future.
When Kelly woke up, it was time for her next class. Had she slept that long, did she miss Todd’s call? She began sifting through the caller ID but there was no call from him. Her mind began to race with worry. That was so out of the norm for him. Was he alright? Was he with someone else? She decided to call his cell phone in hopes for answers. The answering machine picked up on the first ring. Now she definitely became consumed with worry. Why was his phone off? She then called his dorm room, but there was no answer. What was going on? She decided to go to class and just wait for him to call her later on that evening. What a drag this class was going to be worrying about Todd and what was going on with him.
When Kelly got back to her dorm for the evening, she checked her messages and her caller ID, but still there was no call from Todd. She tried his cell phone again; still the answering machine picked up on the first ring. Kelly had had enough. She decided to call his mother to see if she had heard from Todd. Todd’s mother answered the phone with a hint of sadness in her voice. What’s wrong Mrs. Thomas
; Kelly asked? You haven’t heard? Heard what’; asked Kelly?
Todd eloped this morning. He called to tell his father and me after the ceremony. He knew that we would disapprove. We wanted him to at least wait until he had finished college before making such a drastic decision. We thought that it would be you that he was going to marry. You two are so right for each other, but it seems that Brenda, the girl that he married, is pregnant and the baby is due in another seven months." All that Kelly could do was cry. Why had Todd betrayed her? He had not given her any inclination that he was even seeing someone else. Sure they were miles apart, but she had felt that they had a strong relationship and they were able to withstand the distance. What had gone wrong? Was it because she would not give in to his advances? She had never even given any thought to any other guy. How could she have been so stupid? Was she so caught up in her dream and pleasing her parents that she hadn’t noticed any differences when they talked on the phone? She hung up the phone and cried herself to sleep.
The next day, Kelly called her parents to give them the heart wrenching news and told them that she was going to take a few days off from school and come home to get her thoughts together. Her mom said that she would be waiting for her and that everything was going to be alright. They would be there to help her put the pieces together of her shattered life. God would be in control.
As time went on, Kelly eventually came to grips with losing Todd and decided that she would focus on her studies, graduating and opening her own real estate company. Kelly eventually did graduate and moved back home to South Hill, Virginia. It was a rural area and things didn’t go well as originally anticipated. After five years of trying to keep a struggling business alive; she decided to move to New York City. Her parents were heart broken with her decision but told her that she had given it her all to keep her business alive and they would respect her decision.
Kelly finished up the legalities of closing her business within a month’s time after making a decision to take a job with a major New York brokerage firm with her parents’ blessings. She had never been so far away from them before and wondered how she would make it. She would have to make new friends, find a new church home and just basically start life over in a big city without any comforts of home.

A Fresh Start
When Kelly reached New York, her new employer, Mrs. Talley was waiting for her at the airport. Mrs. Talley was a middle-aged lady with salt and pepper hair and a distinguished look. Her face appeared to be friendly and she had a motherly air about her. They exchanged greetings and she told Kelly that she would take her to her to the apartment where she would be staying after they got a bite to eat. They decided on a delicatessen near La Guardia Airport.
Kelly was amazed at the diverse cultures of the
