    Chapter 2—Introduction

Miss Awura Esi and Mr George Dzokoto told this extraordinary story. Miss Awura Esi and Mr George Dzokoto all comes from a village in the Volta Region in the Republic of Ghana called Kayera. Mr George Dzokoto trained both as a plumber and as a welder. He is therefore well paid in his job. Mr George Dzokoto remained as a bachelor for many years until pressure from his family made him to marry Miss Awura Esi a very attractive and a pretty daughter of Togbe Kwasi Enyonam the paramount Chief of Kayera. Miss Awura Esi is the only child of Togbe Kwasi Enyonam the Paramount Chief of Kayera.

She is so attractive and played a leading role during the enstoolment of the father as the paramount Chief. Miss Awura Esi is well liked by all the villages around and is followed whenever she visits a nearby village. Her attractiveness was becoming a stumbling block to her in finding the right man to marry her for two reasons: one, because of her attractiveness and two, her position as the only child of the father who is difficult to approach regarding the daughter until Mr George Dzokoto’s bold appearance to marry Miss Awura Esi.

    Exercise on Chapter 2

    1. Do you think that Mr George Dzokoto remained as a bachelor for so many years because he was well paid in his job and being a bachelor gave him the freedom he needs to move about?

    2. Would you say it is a good thing for the family to exert pressure on someone to marry?

    3. Do you think being attractive and pretty should be a stumbling block to you in finding a man to marry you?

    4. Would you say Miss Awura Esi being the only child (daughter) of the father was the reason why men found it difficult to approach her or because of Miss Awura Esi’s social position?

    Chapter 3—Miss Awura Esi and

    Mr George Dzokoto

Miss Awura Esi after her marriage to Mr George Dzokoto was therefore determined at all cost to ensure that no third party interferes in her marriage affairs not even her own relatives.

As Mr George Dzokoto works in Accra the capital of Ghana, Miss Awura Esi had to leave the village at Kayera and live with the husband in Accra. At 26 Miss Awura Esi had never travelled before or be on her own. As a result the parents were worried about how she can cope with her new situation. Mr George Dzokoto lives in a nice apartment and a clean environment with modern gadgets that make life more comfortable.

Mr George Dzokoto showed kindness and love to the wife Miss Awura Esi when she left the village to live with him in Accra. He never, however spent more time with the wife after work as he is used to spending time in the company of friends due to the fact that he has lived for so many years as a bachelor. Miss Awura Esi became jealous and worried. While she was in no doubt that Mr George Dzokoto loves and showed kindness to her at all times nor suspected the husband of being unfaithful to her, Miss Awura Esi was worried of loneliness as she was new to the area and had no friends or relatives in the area other than the husband. Miss Awura Esi complained of loneliness to Mr George Dzokoto on many occasions. Each time that she complained of loneliness the husband assured her not to worry, as she Miss Awura Esi was the only woman in his life. He reaffirmed this unflinching love for the wife and tried to make her happy at all times with presents and gifts. As time goes on Miss Awura Esi was able to make few friends with other women in the neighbourhood. Miss Awura Esi did not discuss her marital problems with her friends but all chat together as women. In general conversation one of the women narrated the story of how a traditional doctor called Mr Boko helped changed the attitude of her friend’s husband who had previously spent more time in the company of work colleagues other than the wife and the children.

This was a welcome news to Miss Awura Esi as she was in a similar situation and her aim was to do anything apart from harming her husband that will make Mr George Dzokoto spend more time with her. Miss Awura Esi decided therefore to consult the traditional doctor. She booked an appointment to see Mr Boko. After consulting Mr Boko, he asked her to bring a milk from the breast of a living Lioness to do a spiritual medicine. Miss Awura Esi retorted, screamed, and then told Mr Boko this was an impossible task. Mr Boko insisted that as Miss Awura Esi was determined to do anything that will make
