Monday morning Lance woke from a deep sleep. He turned to see what time it was, the clock on the nightstand read 9:04am. He pulled the covers from his body. Jumped out of bed to see the message light blinking on his cell phone. He yelled at Sandra.
Sandra you let me sleep late!
Sandra rolled over opening her eyes and asked,
What time is it?
"It’s after nine am.
Lance pushed the message button. It was his boss Mr. Kim. The message said "Mr. Bass the meeting was at eight am you must call the office. Lance called the office, and after two rings Mr. Kim answers.
Mr. Kim I am so sorry… .
What’s done is done Mr. Bass you can pick up the notes when you get to the office.
Thank you sir and I’ll do that sir.
See you when you get in bye.
Lance goes to get cleaned up. Sandra calls for Lance as he is in the shower. She gets out of bed and goes to brush her
Teeth. As she puts the toothpaste on her toothbrush, she calls out.
Lance I want to spend time with you.
What? I can’t hear you. Hold on I’m getting out.
He raps a towel around himself as he steps out to dry off.
Lance opens the door to see Sandra pinning her hair up to take a shower.
Now what is it you were saying?
I want to spend time with you today, and don’t tell me you can’t.
I have to get to the office, I’m sorry about this honey.
"I wont be able to spend time with you this week. Sandra looks at him with her mouth open, arms up and hands open.
I have to get ready for a trip.
I have to go to Houston for a week.
Sandra yells at Lance. We’re having dinner with my mother tonight.
So don’t tell me you can’t make it.
"I’ll make it up to you. Lance is done dressing and packing his bags. Sandra steps to him and gets face to face.
And how do you plan to do that Lance?
"I’ll buy you anything you want baby just name it.
That’s my point Lance!
You only want to show me by buying me things.
I don’t want to be bought. "I have money!
"Honey I have to go. He puts his arms around her and gives her a hug and kiss. Sandra pulls away from Lance.
Is that all I get is a hug and a kiss?
Another unspoken I love you. I need to hear you say it and mean it.
Lance looked at Sandra.
He then forced himself to say the three little words.
I love you. Seeing he had to force himself to say I love you. Sandra just stood and looked at him. It must have been five seconds and she said
bye Lance. Lance took Sandra by both arms and gave her a kiss.
"I really have to go, bye honey. Lance went off to work. Sandra put her head down and said a soft good-bye. Lance made her very unhappy; she wasn’t in a good mood. Sandra jumped in the shower to get cleaned up. When she was done she called her mother to tell her she and Lance couldn’t make it for dinner. The phone rings two times, Lorene picks up.
Hello, hey momma it’s me San.
Lance and I can’t make it for dinner. Sandra’s voice sounds sad.
Is he going out of town again?
Yeah he has to go to Houston for a week. Lorene shouts. A week!
what’s wrong with your husband?
Does he care about you and what you need?"
Sandra sighs and says I guess not. While Lorene is going on about Lance, Sandra feels so abandon. She doesn’t want to talk.
I don’t want to talk about it right now. "I’ll call you back later if that’s ok?
"Yes its okay I’ll talk to you later today. They both say bye.
Sandra gets her things together to go into the office.
Good Morning Mrs. Huggins,
how’s your morning going?
She replies. "It’s been a blessed one so far.
I wish mine was the same.
I’m sorry, what did you say? "Oh nothing, any call?
Yes Mr. Cortez, Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Orr. Mrs. Huggins handed Sandra the list that she wrote for her. Sandra went into her office and sat down. Lance was heavy on her mind. Sandra called the list of people she had to call. Took care of some other paper work and called her best friend Priscilla. Pricilla’s phone rings, she answers it and says
hello.
Sandra say hey girl what you doing later tonight?
Mommy duties she replies. "What’s on your agenda Priscilla asked?
I want to go out tonight.
Not a club huh. No, let’s go to Blue Monday at Sir Collins. Priscilla says
let’s go, but I can’t stay out to late. Sandra says "Cool I’ll pick you up.
Sandra picks Priscilla up at eight pm for a late dinner and some fun. On the way to Sir Collins. Sandra didn’t say much in the car. Pricilla asked. What’s up with you girl, why are you so quiet?
There’s times when I can’t get you to shut up. Pricilla taps her on the shoulder and smiles. Sandra turned her head to her right to look at Priscilla. She let out a big sigh and said, "It’s Lance.
Priscilla said, You don’t have to tell me who it is, I know who it is.
Just tell me where he’s going this time?
He’s going to Houston for a week.
Damn! A week Priscilla
Replied. She puts her head down and mumbles. "I’m not saying a word, not one word. They drove up to Sir Collins and parked the car, got out and walked in. The host took them to their table. When Sandra sat down she was captivated by a Good looking man at the next table. He was with a woman, she was nice but she wasn’t Sandra. Sandra couldn’t stop staring. Priscilla commented.
Sandra that might be his wife.
And! I have a husband. Priscilla shakes her head.
You’re so bad Sandra.
"When he looks this way I’ll point to the rest room. After a minute or so he looked Sandra’s way. She pointed across the room. He looks at his lady friend and then back at Sandra. Surprisingly he was interested. He told the woman he was with, that he had to use the restroom.
He’s getting up.
Are you serious, you’re really going to do this? "Yes I am. Sandra got up and walked to the restroom area. She introduced herself.
Hi my name is Sandra and I think your very attractive.
I just had to meet you. Collins took her hand and kissed it.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Sandra my name is Collins.
Sandra pointed at her best friend saying. "I decided to take her on a
Girl’s night out. "So before I go, I want your phone number. Collins smiled. Sandra handed him a pen from her purse. He wrote the number down, reached for her hand.
I hope to hear from you soon.
And soon it will be. Collins turned and walked back to his table. When Collins reached his table
Sandra went back to hers. Girl I got the number.
What did he say Sandra? "Nothing I just asked for the number and he gave it to me.
What if he’s married girl? Sandra replies,
So what if he is? He may be as unhappy as I am. If he is married, why would he give me his number?
So you know what, if I can have him I’m going to get him.
"Well you need to get rid of Lance first, and then you can talk about what you can have.
"Lance doesn’t love me; it’s just the money, power and respect that he’s in love with.
"Oh my God! What turned you around to make you realize this?
It’s him being gone all the time.
I can’t take it anymore. Anyway,
lets talk about something other than Lance. "Like what asked Priscilla. Sandra noticed Collins and his date walking out the door. Before he walks out he gives Sandra a head nod and smiles.
Sandra and Priscilla finish dinner. "We’re done here is there anything you want to do now?
"No it’s after ten; I have kids and a husband to get home to.
Priscilla stops and said. "I didn’t mean it in a rude way. Sandra looked down.
I know Priscilla.
Your right you do have a husband and kids to go home to. "You go home and call me tomorrow. The next day Sandra went to her office and found flowers and a card. The card
Saying, Sandra I know it upsets you when I can’t tell you how I feel.
It’s just hard for me to say, you know I have a hard time expressing my feelings. "I hope this helps show you that I do love you. This made Sandra very angry. She put them aside, sat down and thought of her life with Lance. She thought at the beginning it was great, till love played a part and he couldn’t express it. And now what feels like the end is painful and hard. The phone rings and it takes her mind off Lance. After the phone call she thought about Collins. She got his number out of her purse and called him. Sandra let the phone ring about four times, she was going to hang up but Collins picked up.
Hello. His voice sounded like he was sleep. Sandra asked,
Did I wake you?
Yes but it’s okay. "This is the woman that approached you at Sir Collins.
Oh, I know who you are.
I’m very glad you called. It’s after nine am,
why are you still in bed? "I had a very late night.
I wanted to know if you were free for lunch?
Sure I can do lunch. "Okay meet me at Sir Collins at eleven thirty.
Okay cool I’ll be there.
By the way is there a connection with your name and the club? Yes, I’m actually the owner of Sir Collins.
And I’m also an architect. Nice.
I’ll see you there. They both hang up.
