King Arthur of Locksbottom

The seven-year-old was put to sleep as he was suffering from a cancerous tumour on one of his legs and could not support himself. He lived much of his life in Wellbrook Road, Locksbottom, lived his final days in Monks Way, Orpington. During his final week, his owner Heather Meyers fed him his favourite of rump steak, pork chops and mince. And on his last day he was given a breakfast of 20 boiled eggs and 10 slices of toast before the vet came to put the 14st 9lb St. Bernard to sleep.

    Chapter One

Hi, my name is Arthur and this is the story of my life. I was born at Noakes BARN in Ashford, Kent, and my parents were called Porche and Urshillis.

My breeder would have liked me to have carried on my father’s name but my new mother thought differently. As soon as she saw me for the first time she thought I looked like a king, hence the name King Arthur.

And when she saw how big I was going to grow she asked my breeder if he could keep me for a another few days so she could adapt my home. She returned to the farm five days later and I said goodbye to my mum Porche before setting off on the journey to Locksbottom. It was quite a drive and I felt a bit car sick so I puked all over my new brother James’s lap before arriving at my new house.

When we arrived there were a lot of people who were wanting to see me, pick me up, kiss me (Yuck!), carry me and take
