About this ebook

In his recent book, Spiritual Battle, the author used the expository method of the Word of God. He presented the aspect of prayer in the work of intercessors, as the Christians most powerful weapon; the basic issues of the Trinity in which all the weapons might be used in accordance with the Throne of Grace. The related issues of the Father as the Provider; of the Son, as Mediator; of the Holy Spirit, as Helper assured security in the battle against the saints of the Lord. Furthermore, the author intended to reveal the Christians enemy - the devil, the enemy of Godunveiling his strategy since the beginning and his methods of attack. Finally, he proves that the prayer warriors weapons are effective.
Now, he exposes the best strategies to battle, as per the Word of God, as a weapon of attack. The best strategy in a battle is the offensive! But when we are dealing with the enemy, we must outnumber him three times more. The weapons must be used with full power in the combat front, but supported by heavier and more accurate long range weapons.
We are part of an army where the General is Christ - his number of celestial angels is three times higher. His invincible power is the Trinity, where the Father is unchangeable and indestructible; the Son, everlasting, lives forever; the Holy Spirit guarantees great power above any power existing on Earth or beyond.
The author, in the first part of this book, talks about real Me experiences since his childhood, through his teen years, youth and the early stages of his own family engagement and marriage - the call to his ministry, showing in a simple example how the Lord of the Harvest works through his servants, as they present themselves as a living, holy and pleasant sacrifice to him.
After 30 years as a minister, since the early 60s, the Lords call for the author to be an Ambassador to more than 140 countries, preaching the Gospel in several languages and dialects and being prepared for the Holy Spirits work in a very special way, always trying to maintain his self control, studying all the manifestations of the power of the Holy Spirit and of the glory of the Throne of God through the mediation of our Lord of lords - Jesus Christ - our supreme Master, Savior and King.
Sharing his personal testimony of three decades of victory, to the glory of Jesus, in the word of testimony logos - and of the word of faith - rhema - the author intends to establish the link between the authority of the word logos, witnessed through the ages, and the circumstances when the Lord delivers his power so as to make us more than conquerors.
It is essential, therefore, that each soldier of Christ become a brave warrior, who correctly handles the armor of God.
Each Christian is under the foreknowledge of God, from birth to death. The heavenly Father knows his children in their mothers womb, like Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:5). Thus, all who are called are chosen, however, only a few respond in a positive way to his call. This is why Jesus said that a few are the chosen ones; as in the case of the warriors who were not prepared for the battle (Judges 7:2-9).

    The Author

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to all those who somehow contributed so that it became a positive influence in the Spirit filled committed Christian, at the end of this millennium.

To my dear mother Ana Carolina Pitzer, prayer warrior and faithful intercessor in times of trials, tribulations and victory, leading me to know the Lord Adhonai and El Shadai during hard struggles.

To my father, now with Jesus, Jonas Alves Souza, who always believed in the victory of the servants of the Lord!

To my beloved wife Louraci, partner in prayer and prayer warrior during the many battles we went through together, to the honor and glory of God!

To my beloved First Baptist Church in Brazil, which, by the grace of the Lord, allowed that our three returns to the US deeply changed our lives in Christ.

To our Eternal Father, who blesses us immeasurably; to His Son, who gives a variety of ministries; and to the sweet Paraclitos—the Holy Spirit—who gives a variety of gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

    Chapter 1

    Born To Battle

From the first days of my existence, even before I was born, the hand of the Almighty Living God was upon me, when in my mother’s womb I struggled to survive. I was in a very delicate prenatal situation and soon the doctors predicted a premature birth. Indeed, she went in labor on the seventh month of pregnancy. According to my mother, my body was so tiny that the doctors would place me in their apron’s pocket.

Many people would say: This baby is not going to make it. And my mother would promptly reply: No, in Jesus name this baby is going to grow up, become strong and win!

One day, when my breathing was extremely weak, my mother, Ana, took me into her arms and said: Lord, here is my son. I offer him to you, so that you will use his life for your honor and glory. Immediately she was filled with assurance that she had achieved victory.

From, that moment on my body started to gain strength steadily. My metabolism started to work properly and all the barriers were broken. My parents’ faith was strengthened in Jehovah Rafah who healed and supported their home.

My parents embarked in a new experience, attending the First Baptist Church in Rio de Janeiro. They soon decided to start a small congregation in their house. My father, Jonas, preached the Gospel in our congregation and in other churches in the suburbs. I was being raised in an environment of faith and courage. As early as five years old, I memorized many Psalms to recite in the services at churches and houses.

I was very active during special services, reciting poems by Christian poets, always taking the opportunity to talk about Jesus. Everyone wanted to see Little Ivan—me.

    Chapter 2

    Refined By Fire

At the age nine, as we prepared the special presentations for Christmas, I was rehearsing a play in which a girl came to me and asked: Where do you come from, shepherd, so joyful and happy? To which I replied: I come as I hear, on the way, a holy song that says the Savior, King and Lord is born."

Well, it seems that the expression so joyful and happy did not pleased the enemy. Many people would bring a visitor along to see the special celebration; it had become a tradition to see the boy Ivan take part in the play The shepherd from Bethlehem.

On a weekend, I went to a candy factory with a friend from church. He used to spend weekends in my house. We played hide-and-go-seek and then we played who would jump farthest… In the factory they had a large marble table on which they poured the boiling candy dough so as to cool it down and then cut it; then they let the water run over the table to cool it down and pour more candy dough. Well, the water was running and my friend Wilton had the idea of splashing me with the water hose. I did not want to get wet, so I decided to run away from the water by jumping over the pan of 60 inch diameter with the boiling candy. I did not make it, of course. I felt that I would dive head first in that boiling syrup and certainly die, so I cried out loud: Save me, Jesus!

As an invisible touch, reminding me of a wing flap, I felt a push to the side. Only my right leg was sunken in the boiling candy and my knee touched the bottom of the pan. I was burned up to my thigh. I cannot recall how I managed to get up, as my friend screamed for help! I had to jump on one foot a long distance from where I was on the back of the factory to the warehouse at the front of the building. When my mother saw me she cried: There is power in the blood of Jesus!

She tried to cover my leg with butter; somebody told her to try ice; she covered my leg with a cloth, which caused my skin to loosen up, uncovering bones and tendons, leaving them exposed.

In her despair, my mother took me away in a cab, to the drugstore nearby, and she encouraged me all the way: "We are Christians, son, you belong to the Lord. Now recite Psalm 23… The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want . . . The pain was excruciating, and it took me more than memory to say those words, by faith.

I had a third degree burn over my leg and foot, and the pharmacist sent us to the hospital. It was a half-hour drive to the hospital. It seemed that fire was burning all over my body. I could not stand the pain. I would then say: Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.

I soon learned that there is great power in our words!

At last, we arrived at the hospital. Doctors and nurses took care of me. It was a shock treatment; the measures they took were terrible. They decided to take the remains of my flesh and try to put them together and restore whatever possible. But first they had to coat my bones and tendons with silver nitrate, which was even worse than the burn itself. I fainted. My mother started crying to the Lord: He was pierced for our transgressions.

The doctors did not understand what she meant by that. They had to wake me up. I got up. My leg was all covered by a kind of black tape. I did not understand anything. I took some medication and they sent me home. Months of great pain and anguish went by. I was submitted to several treatments. The worst of all was the time to take that tape from my leg. It would glue my skin. They had to lift inch by inch of the tape and with scissors they would cut the skin attached to the tape.

I was allergic to penicillin and I had so many itching side effects all over my body; I also had high fever due to the infection. The doctors found that an infection was developing under the silver nitrate coat in my leg and the only solution was to amputate the leg.

She promptly responded to that astonishing statement from the doctor: "We strongly believe that the Lord Jesus will not allow this to happen. We
