Coffee with Jesus

A beam of morning sun

Shines through the window.

The birds, together,

They sing their wake-up song.

I pour a cup of coffee

Then look to Jesus,

And start my new today off

With the Lord.

I thank Him for

Another night protected,

And another day

To do His pleasing will.

I share with Him my thoughts

And my to-do list,

And ask Him for His help

To see me through.

I ask Him for the gentleness

He taught us;

For the patience and the strength

That I will need.

I ask Him

To keep my eyes wide open;

To help me see the plans

He has for me.

I thank Him for His Word

That He has spoken,

And for those

Who’ve put it into print.

I ask that He bless them,

And that He’d help me

Apply it

As I learn and grow within.

Then I’m ready for the day

That’s before me.

With confidence and faith

I can walk.

’Cause I started off my day

With the Lord Jesus,

And carry Him throughout it,

In my heart.

Week 1

God’s Emergency Kit

An emergency kit may need a light;

You can find it in John chapter 1.

A map can be found

In Proverbs chapter 3,

And protection in Psalm 91.

In a time of great urgency, you may become

hungry;

Make sure you pack John 6 and 7.

You may need first aid;

Pack the eighth part of Matthew.

And for faith, Hebrews part 11.

When packing your kit, pack Philippians 4

’Cause you’ll need to find peace and stay calm.

Courage can be found

And energy too,

In Isaiah 40 and 41.

Your emergency kit should be packed

full and ready.

Keep it fresh, and keep it nearby you.

So when in a panic,

In tears and in darkness,

You can find it and use it to get through.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

No Foothold

I don’t want to be

A candle to his fire.

I don’t want to be

A wind in his storm.

I don’t want to be

A part of his team.

I don’t want to work

For Satan anymore.

So I’m gonna live

A life that is lovely.

And I’m gonna try

To always do good.

I’m only gonna think

On God’s great beauty

Keeping my mind

And my words where I should.

I don’t want to give

The Devil satisfaction.

I don’t want him thinking

That he could ever win.

I’m gonna make it known

That I am God’s child
