CERI – 5/23/25

It's been three weeks, 18 days to be exact, since the vanishing. Last week the President made the announcement that the world's governments and scientific organizations concluded that an estimated thirteen percent of the world's population had disappeared without a trace on May 8th. That means my Dad, Mike and brother, Mike Jr are gone and no one knows why. Mike Jr's birthday cake and its number 11 candle is still on the dinner table. So are his presents. The balloons don't float as good as before. They hover midair, spaceship like. It's eerie at night. My mom yelled at me when I tried to cut a piece of cake. She said I was disrespecting the dead. I wanted to cut a piece for me and Mike. I wanted to pretend to talk to him about his upcoming baseball game that weekend. What socks he was going to wear and how many hits he thought he'd get. I wanted him to tell me how he was going to play for the Orioles and hit a homer so far it end up in the Ravens' stadium nearby.
