- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Although not as good as the first two trades in this series, it's still a pretty interesting read. This one delves a bit more into the Plutonian's loveless past as a child, as well as exposing some secrets that Bette Noir would rather keep hidden (and has until this point). I'm wondering what Waid is going to do in future trades to keep this story intriguing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Reason for Reading: Next in the series.Flashes back into Plutonium's past give us small glimpses into who the former hero was and some insight into his childhood, but Tony still remains an aloof character who appears to have had nothing but selfish motives his entire adult life. He then comes out of his respite to exact revenge and torture upon some people from his childhood. This volume concentrates mostly on Bette and her character's development. We are shown her past history and secrets all while Plutonium was still their leader and the guilt she carries now within her. The army has lost hope in the Paradigm's ability to deal with Plutonium, so they have brought forth their own villain. This new addition to the cast is a pretty cool character, Orion, a demon hunter who is brutal and no match for any of the Paradigm. It will be interesting to see him go up against the Plutonium. The next volume is due out in November ('10).As usual the volume ends with a Cover Gallery and then a 15 page preview of Waid's "The Unknown" which I must get round to reading one of these days.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5After the Plutonian's former team has another blow out with the Plutonian, and the teams actions give the government pause, so the remaining government goes after them. You also get more insight into the teams past and the Plutonian's past.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The division of a continuing story without arcs into three- or four-issue TPBs is kind of arbitrary--at least give us something that takes more than twenty minutes to read, yeah?--but this is a satisfyingly crunchy section of the Irredeemable storyline, with much machinations on all parts. I like that the thing is still unfolding, and everything's in flux, and it's not Plutonian sitting on his throne knowing everything his foes are plotting. I like that the humans even get some sweet moves. The thing where everybody's all more motivated by personal vendettas and infidelities and the like than by the millions of deaths and the world on the brink kind of gets me down--if there were some parallels drawn between that and Plutonian's guilty traumatized brain crying out to be appreciated, I'd buy it, but it seems more like an overlay of regular superhero soap operatics and is less than whelming. Still, competent structurally and holds my interest thematically.
