About this ebook

Every human is a seeker of ‘Truth’. But almost all give up in the middle since they are threatened by their alter ego, ‘The Fallen One’. The first step is to accept that yes, ‘I’ am ‘The Fallen One’ and then proceed for soul searching. This is unstable equilibrium so the caution has to be practiced. So, I would like to reach ‘Youth of India’ in particular by presenting them what ‘search for self realization’ has to offer. It is not easy, perhaps the most difficult task to be undertaken, but the persistence is the key. The book also contains few concepts related to science and mathematics which should interest logical minds. It is also meant for those who have gone under the same set of experience while performing soul search.

The Journey - Tarun Deep Singh

    Preface

Many have warned against evil delving in human mind keeping him completely engrossed in futile actions. They also have shown the path to dissolve it, to prevent the human values from hitting rock bottom. But still the logical mind¹ keeps asking the big question ‘Where is the path and How to get there’? We observe evil’s occurrence, its pattern, people impacted by it, a bit of nature² but still not sure why ‘root cause³’ always eludes us. Few reasons, issues are associated with hidden fears and incorrect understanding of inner world caused by wrong perceptions. People can be expert of outside world but only few countable have truly glanced at the inner world and managed to bring out treasures to share with everyone.

So, in this work I plan to take deeper dive to find out what all an individual experiences in a journey to become a ‘Better Individual’, like an obstruction in efficient comprehension of evil, his struggle, hindrance caused by evil to continue with the journey, only possible approach of faith for appropriate formulation of underlying solutions to overcome it⁴ and that part of himself which is hidden from him. It is easy to give up when an individual finds evil residing in him. No doubt it is hard to resist but the ‘Guilt’, the remorse, of being hub of vices makes things tougher to overcome the evil. Believe me too much guilt can also sow the seeds of evil⁵. Not everyone can absorb the shocks of such experience. And only few lucky ones keep walking and achieve their destiny. I pray and urge that those who have walked the path shower enough grace on us that even we can achieve the state of self-realization.

Throughout the book I have given respect to evil just to suggest that it is very potent. Anyone should not lock horns, like I will live in complete austerity⁶, with it in one go since any individual is bound to lose against it. How mortality can overcome something which has come to existence well before humanity found its foot and understood that ‘its kin’ are mere mortal. One should try in small steps to get rid of it. But its grip does not loosen on an individual till he rises to the highest level of consciousness and gain enough depth and strength to ignore the temptations. It seems that such a state is end of actions since he has risen above ‘Karmas’. So I ask what if same, that evil can never be overcome, has been assumed by Krishna, Christ, Prophet Mohammad, Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and many like ‘them’ where we, as humanity would have ended.

This work is not story or a fiction. This reflects whatever I managed gathering to thank my savior⁷ so far, WHO became my remembrance by HIS grace. Following HIS advice, I found myself on a journey. Though the best part of it is still undiscovered and untouched but it has left many eternal marks on ‘Soul’. I may not be the best narrator but the journey has inspired me to pen down few thoughts. I do not even come close to be called ‘Rahi⁸ (The person who walks on without being attached, with just keeping his goal in front of him) but I will love to be like him.

Like, meaning of ‘Rahi’, there always were questions and gaps in understanding. Many have been answered; many have dissolved but as part of journey many new have been encountered only adding to confusion. Elimination of each doubt should be considered, as each doubt signifies an issue, no matter how small, as a milestone. But reaching milestone should not go to head, else what evil needs to swallow the soul. The whole purpose of human life is to incinerate as many doubts as possible. It is different debate altogether regarding the content, quality and criticality of the doubts. Some are recursive⁹ i.e. they keep bringing an individual to same state and keep him tempted. They are the major hindrances in growth of a person. The biggest challenge is to identify and accept them as trouble makers¹⁰.

Identifying or accepting or overcoming few doubts is not success, it is just a beginning or may not be a beginning. Success is about ‘totality’. The journey is ‘eternityitself and it cannot be completed with countable achievements. Just few glimpses of accomplishment alone can never be the criteria for pursuing the journey of becoming a better individual. That’s the reason so called ‘winnersgive up well before pinnacle and hide under comfort zone for just few pieces of ‘Gold’. Well there is no dearth of such weak man in modern world. They manifest into faulty leaders or preachers just faking their glory. They no more retain the status of traveler and just end up like any lost cause. And unfortunately, the whole mass is heading ‘nowhereby following them. Thus the vitality to understand the journey even becomes more inevitable.

This definitely pops up a question, what makes journey and its traveler unique and different from mass? Well, surely he is not engrossed in just consuming resources. He consumes atmost quantity to keep him floating till ‘final destination¹¹’. He denounces everything not required as merely hindrance. The journey feeds him so much strength that if required he can generate the resources for the needy ones. He is just an observer not being perturbed by what’s happening around him. This all ensures he always remember his mission and goal, doesn’t give importance to milestones (no matter how much significant they appear) and doesn’t get entangled in useless activities.

I guess, now it is right moment to have an insight on what ‘Journey’, in the context of this book, means. It is about becoming a complete human. Experiencing everything but still not getting stuck in anything. It is human tendency to explore ‘unknown waterssince they raise curiosity especially if the whole world is desperate to take dive in them. And that’s why people fall in webs. To make matter worse once caught; even been careful, find it next to impossible to break all undesirable bonds. That’s where traveler, an observer, manages to overcome the temptations as he is only interested in continuing the journey and achieving the ultimate goal. It does not mean he is infallible but he will be better equipped psychology to recover from pitfalls. Thus the bottom line is the journey seems like of self-realization¹² and I want to cascade it with my experiences in my own words.

Also one of my dearest friends Dharampal Singh (DP), currently working as MD of Deloitte Consulting, rightly pointed out in the very initial stages of this work that the journey I plan to discuss should be universal. All the problems are universal as human existence is universal. I concur with him but since this deep understanding of becoming one with nature began with ‘Thought Process¹³’ so finding the true nature of human should be attributed to becoming a ‘Self Realized Soul’. Thus I plan to use the strategy of highlighting various key features of journey and how they can help us to regain the status of ‘Rahi’ and may be ‘The Achiever’.

I have also observed many on the journey just giving up like that. They got intrigued by it but unfortunately just withered away. The intellect kept challenging them that answers cannot be found by merely waking on path. And just to curb the noises they decided not to walk ahead as they wrongly believed that the journey just does not worth it. They experienced too much pains, struggles and conflicts that they failed to manage coping with them. They lacked patience and courage to be torn apart¹⁴.

As mentioned earlier, I am neither the best nor the worthy, perhaps too far from these pinnacles but just want to present so that no one gives up the journey for not being able to cope with ‘Noises’. I neither claim to be achiever or loser. I am no one to decide my mental state. I cannot even access my actions so it will be absurd to deduce any outcome of such actions. I am sure the experience will evolve as the journey continues. But I think it is a ‘timeto take a small break, relax and share with everyone what it may take to be on a journey to ‘Discover a Travelerin side you. The book has been organized in six chapters and few appendix items.

¹     Logics don’t give essence of surrender and humbleness and all Great Masters have emphasized on sheer submission of will to HIS will.

²     Remember knowing occurrence pattern does not mean the nature has been completely understood.

³     This reminds me famous quotes of Swami Vivekananda:

"The evil you see in others is manifestation of your own weakness."

⁴     It may be simply argued that man does not want to annihilate the evil. But the question is, does he really know it, then acknowledges it and then tries to overcome it? There will be many instances where an individual may be trying to negate the malicious instincts but how will he really tag them, thus he becomes a lost cause in overcoming the weakness and eventually ends up in being its slave.

⁵     Evil is not like doing something wrong; everything is evil which is not letting an individual to rise above him and current state.

⁶     The austerity does not guarantee eradication of evil. Following words of Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji crisply defines it:

(…True Silence cannot be attained, Even by perpetual meditation…)

⁷     I am saved or not is not the question, but I will be saved, in some life, is important.

⁸     The word ‘Rahi’, meaning traveler, has begun to make sense. It may have eluded me but now I admire the gist of the word. It was always there, as it is nick name (alias) used by my grandfather for his literally work, but what depth it holds is becoming clearer now.

⁹     The recursive nature is discussed in ‘Man Is A Thoughtby same author.

¹⁰   This is mentioned in ‘What Is an Indian?by same author.

¹¹   Just want to state physical death is not final destination, it is just a certain end to a physical existence.

¹²   Simply, because every ‘True Master’ has asked us to become better human so that we can serve the nation better (and those who have not asked to become an Indian, I don’t regard them as ‘True Master’). And if we do introspect we can surely trace our origin back to eons, irrespective of few who cannot even go back a century or few centuries back.

¹³   People across the globe from Non-Indian back ground may not agree as no archeological proofs are present. But the fact is the revolution of finding inner world started from India and deep inside every Indian knows that.

¹⁴   Remember, for any biological findings, learning or healing human body has to be first pierced with sharp object and then severed into pieces. Similarly to find non-physical answers and for ‘healing of soul’ to take effective course, soul has to be pricked with sorrows and then needs to be disintegrated into bits by introspection.

    Chapter 1: The Fallen One

Synopsis – In this chapter the main focus is on the very entity responsible for challenging virtues in an individual. This is ‘something’ which is not separable for any of us. It is just a myth that we consider him to be something not part of us, it seduces us to commit evil. So we just guard ourselves from outer world but what about inner aspect which we just ignore. We believe that propagator of evil is ruler of Hell, which resides outside, so it does make sense to talk about concepts of Heaven and Hell. And how far they have penetrated our psychology? We are keen on finding answers what will happen after death but do we seriously try to change the way we live, something which can change the way we perceive and accept the end.

A kid born and brought-up in perceptive, rational and educated society (I guess can be termed as decent society) is well aware of terms like Heaven and Hell. Either parents will tell him/her or the neighbourhood. But unfortunately no one provides any tangible evidences, like physical orientation¹⁵, of their existence. The hypothesis provided is, considered as an excuse by non-believers¹⁶, only human souls after physical death can go there¹⁷. And since soul is impalpable heaven or hell cannot be crisply described, makes them just abstract concepts. This explains why heaven and hell does not seem to have any strict boundaries making it grimmer for people to comprehend them quantifiably. Thus all the description available sounds like fabrication of many versions and lot is left to an individual’s imagination to add or modify it as per his desire only giving rise to confusion and myth¹⁸.

And as atheist¹⁹ say, as described by theology, theology always leaves too much to individual’s imagination and force him to believe. If he believes in the told theological believes, he will go to heaven and if not then he has committed blasphemy and ‘HELL’ is surely waiting for him²⁰. Thus, this all triggers a chain reaction, misbelieves, superstitions, religious hysteria and in extreme cases formation of a society which denies all possible theological believes even if they are ‘true or have some credible facts behind them’, called the rebellion or formation of a society which will never allow any new concepts in its thought process no matter how much enriching they are, called fundamentalists. And the worst part is a never ending war begins between, so called, believers and non-believers which had taken ugly ‘bloody’ form in history and still continues to present challenges to be sorted peacefully²¹.

Keeping all this in mind, it becomes important to look at conceptualization of heaven, will surely visit hell since that is the gist of this chapter. Heaven, all beautiful, more than the gifts nature has bestowed on this planet. The place belongs to ‘Angel’ and human souls enjoy the eternal bliss, flooded with ‘Apsaras’, delicious nectar being served, the whole place is filled with liveliness and wonderful fragrance all
