    Chapter One

It all started when we got home from a long day at the beach. We drove up the driveway to the house, got out of the car, and went into the house.

It was a small two-story manor house with a long circular drive leading up to the front door with a path going to a courtyard in the rear; where there was a new set of wooden furniture for lounging and relaxing. There were stables off to the east. There was a new patio, and a set of wicker furniture, where we would sit from time to time to have breakfast. Not to far to the west was a forest. Inside, the main hall led into different rooms with a sweeping staircase to the second floor. To the right was the sitting room that opened to the rear courtyard through a set of majestic, French doors and windows that looked out over the front and west lawns. We considered this the front room of the house since the main entrance was right next to the front door of the house.

My friends were sitting in the front room talking about the fun day we just had while I was sitting very quite listening. I got up, walked to the window, and was just standing there when I put my hands into my pockets, and pulled out the little box I had found at the beach. It looked to be very old and made of silver. Inside was a very beautiful ring; in the center was a very large aquamarine stone. Around it there was the most beautiful blood red stones, surrounded by a circle of diamonds. In the box was a note, on very old parchment paper. The note read—

This ring I give to you my love, to know the magical power from above. Hope you will accept it from me, as it brings all my love to thee.

At that time something caught my eye in the window, I called to the others to come see it was a baby wolf and its mother. Not thinking, I put the ring on my finger, as I watched them play. Every one was so excited; they had never seen a wolf, up that close. The wolves stopped playing and turned to the window; it was as if they were staring right at me. Then just like they appeared, they were gone. Every one sat back down and started to talk again. All of a sudden, I became very sleepy. I excused myself and said I was going to lie down for an hour. I went up the stairs into my room and lay down on the bed, and drifted off to sleep, completely forgetting about the ring.

When I awoke the house was very still. I got up, went down stairs, and did not see anyone around. It was almost like daylight, I thought I had slept all night. I walked through the sitting room, not noticing anything different about it. I went out to the courtyard and looked around not a sign of any one. Just some very old wicker furniture and a glass table with a jug and two glasses on it, the jug was full of lemonade. I paused for a moment, and then went down the path leading into the woods, when I came into a clearing. There in the clearing was a wolf; this time it was just the male. He was sleek and lean. He did not have the normal markings of a wolf his body was a silver gray, but on his head, there was black running down behind his ears from the forehead, and the eyes were the warmest sea green.

I jumped back a little startled, then stopped, as it sounded as if some one called my name. I looked around, but did not see any one. I heard it again. Looking down at the wolf, he was now sitting in front of me, his eyes were telling me to use the ring. I looked at my hand and the ring was glowing. Looking down at the wolf, he was repeating,

Please use the ring and release me from this curse.

    But I don’t know how.

He told me to look into his eyes. I got down on one knee; he put his head in my hand. He told me to look deeper into his eyes, some how I was no longer afraid of him. As I looked into his eyes, it was as if he was telling me what to do. All of a sudden, I stood up and raised my arms up to the sky. And in a loud voice said,

Here is this wolf, in front of me,

That was my own true love to be!

I ask the heavens and the gods to release my loved one from this curse

And stand him before me on this earth!

All of a sudden, there was thunder and lightning. Coming from the ring there was a very bright light all around us. When I was able to see, there standing in front of me, was the most handsomely, young man. I was so taken by his splendor, that I must have past out.

When I came to, I was laying on the most beautiful bed. The young man was kneeling by my side. With skin of golden brown, long black hair that had a blue shine in the light, dressed only in a piece of cloth that hung from the waist to just above the knees and the most noticeable thing were the eyes; they were the same as the wolf’s.

I was dressed in the most beautiful, white buckskin gown. Beaded with the most exquisite jewels that matched the ring on my finger. When I asked what had happened. He looked at me with such loving eyes, and said he would explain everything to me when I felt up to it, and that I should just lay there for a few minutes; and with that, he disappeared.

I must have passed out again, for when I came to it was morning. I got up and went down stairs; every one was having breakfast. I came into the room, looked around, and was very disappointed not to see the young man I met the day before. After we ate my friends suggested, we all go down to the beach. I told them that I had to go into town, but stayed at the house. Feeling kind of down at not finding the young man when I got up.

I went for a walk in the woods thinking it was all a dream. I kept walking until I came to a stream; I lay down by the stream. Every thing was so peaceful and quite, I must have dozed off, the next thing some one was saying to me,

Thank you for releasing me from the spell.

I opened my eyes, and there he was. He knelt on one knee, and took my hand in his, and told me not to say anything, as he had to explain. So I just looked into his beautiful sea green eyes and listened while he explained what had happened to him. As I listened, it was as if I was being taken deeper and deeper into the story, until, I found myself actually there with him in the place he was telling me about.

We were still in the same place, but it seemed different. It was more beautiful; there were flowers all around and big shade trees. There were people on horses and walking as if they were in a beautiful garden. The men were dressed in tight pants and tunics that were covered in buttons and braids with frills around the cuffs of the sleeves. The women were dressed in beautiful long flowing pastel colored gowns. The dress I had on was made out of the most beautiful lacy material, with pearls sewn into it with pink satin. I noticed the ring was still on my finger He was there, holding my hand and talking about a journey he had been on to a far away land.

We must have talked for hours and hours, soon he told me it was getting late, and he would return tomorrow. As we walked towards the house, I noticed that things were back to the same as before. I asked him if he would like to come in, so we could continue to talk. He told me that he could not leave the forest. That he had some unfinished things to do. I started to walk towards the house, stopped to say good-bye and he was not there.

I went into the house and looked around, it was so empty. My friends, Toby, Katherine and Allen, had not come back from the beach. So I went up to my room and took a bath. And started thinking about what had happened today. The water was so nice and warm, that I found myself thinking about the young man. And all what he had told me, I felt like a young, anxious bride waiting for her husband to return from a battle. My hair was all in braids on top of my head. I was dressed in that beautiful gown, when he returned, he told me of the wonderful places he had been.

One place in particular was called the land of enchantment. There were a lot of palaces and gardens, deserts and mountains, and the most wonderful people he had ever met. They all made him so welcome, that he felt like a king.

    He continued:

There was food of plenty, and a large lake that seemed like an ocean. There was gold and silver for all, and no one fought or argued. Every one helped every one.

"Then one day I met the most stunning girl I had ever seen. Her name was Gray Wolf’s Dream. Her eyes were a sparkling gray; her hair was as black as ebony, with a red tint to it. She wore the most striking dress made of sparkling blue satin, dotted with diamonds and rubies. Over that was
