    A native of Columbia, Missouri, home to the University of Missouri, Stephens College and Columbia College, Norm Benedict is a communications and public relations professional who comes armed with a writing talent and prodigious memory. Combining his talent as a versatile writer with an ability to re-construct in detail what went on during a fascinating but simpler time, he has brought back to life the episodes and events that helped a child become a young man, spanning the period between his toddler years and the day he and his closest friends left home to begin their undergraduate years in other states. Reading this memoir illustrates in a special way what it was like to grow up in a small college town during World War II and the years of prosperity that came in its aftermath. His chronological tale paints a vivid picture of those idyllic times, which will give others in his age range the opportunity to re-live their own childhood by sharing his, and for those of other generations to step into the past to get a sense of the history of a time when life moved a little slower, but was no less important than today.
