Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am the mum of a teenager, a college librarian, and the author of two books for young readers, The First Rule of Punk and Strange Birds: A Field Guide to Ruffling Feathers. I live in Chicago and grew up in Miami, Florida. I’m the child of immigrants from Cuba and Mexico. I love reading ghost stories, doing research, listening to podcasts, writing letters, baking, visiting vintage and antique shops, Halloween and collecting small things in small containers.

What kind of kid were you?

I was a shy kid, one of those kids who never raised her hand in class and dreaded being noticed. I liked to hide behind books and read voraciously. So much so, my father warned
