ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
FIRST AND FOREMOST, I’D LIKE to thank my Heavenly Father for allowing my imagination to flow. I truly know without his Grace and Mercy, this book could not have been written. He saved my life! I like to say thank you to everyone who’ve been apart of my book writing production. I’d like to especially give thanks to my mother for bringing me into this big old world. This short novel was a big accomplishment for me. My company, Derrick Ellis Books mainly focused on Inspirational, Motivational, Entrepreneurship, and Humor books. With all that said, I really like to thank some more special people: Felecia Meredith, Daave Spitzer(C.D.I.F.), Yvonne Rose (for editing my manuscript, great job!), Ray Floyd (for designing and putting my idea of the book cover to action, therefore, producing a beautiful book cover. Check Ray out at www.jussray.com), Ebony Moore (my lovely daughter who’ve made me a happy grandpa), J. Anthony Brown (you are a good brother and you have one of the hottest comedy club in the country), Kathy Keemp (manager at the jspot, you truly looks out for my best interest), Ms.V (you always remind me about the .99 cents specials at the soul food spot on Crenshaw, good looking out), Big Spike (appreciate every time you let me go up on stage at your Mo Better Monday Comedy Production at the Hollywood Improv), Executives at BET’S Comic View and The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and Festival, Charles Jackson (you are another good brother. Check Charles out at www.boldaz.com.), Wood From Da Hood (a very funny comedian and one of my best friends), and everybody else who’ve supported me in my stand-up comedy career. CHAPTER 1
Introduction to Denver Thomas
DOWN IN THE BASEMENT, THERE is a look of confusion as Denver Thomas looks in the mirror while rehearsing his comedy set. He has been performing stand-up comedy for several years; yet there’s still no respect in the sea of comics, so Mr. Thomas sets up a plan to get his revenge on the entire comedy game.
With a look of disgust, he looks in the mirror over and over again. It’s a cold, dark, gloomy sight in the basement of his run-down house in Compton, California. Denver began to sweat blood from his veins in an angry, heartless, and deranged manner.
Born in Hollywood, California, Denver would have never known that his ability to make people laugh would turn sour; therefore, making him a cruel comic killer. Only 20-years-old when he began making people laugh, Denver had a brilliant career ahead of him. Not only that, but being so young living in Hollywood, California was a comic’s lifetime dream. Showcasing in front of industry executives every night was the shit for Denver!
I could not have ever dreamed this!
he shouted. I’m living the good life with women surrounding me every night, booze, cocaine, and all the party favors I want. What more do I need!
If only Denver had known about the series of events that were about to take over him and change him forever!
Born the only child, Denver’s mother died when his was 12-years-old; and his father went to prison for attempted murder. Basically raising himself, Denver was determined to turned all his tragedies into humor. This was a big challenge. He really never knew his father who had abandoned his mother and him, when he was just 5-years-old. When Denver turned 13-years-old, he began to look for work to support himself, since he was by himself. He lived in North Hollywood, in a shelter facility for teens who lost their parents at a young age. He stayed around guys who were his age or a couple of years younger,
While living around this young group, he met a guy who was a lot like himself. Coincidently, when he was very young, his mother had also died and his father was incarcerated . His name was Peter! He was born in Chicago on the South Side and moved to North Hollywood, California after his mother died.
Denver took a liking to Peter right away. Hey Peter let’s go outside and throw rocks at the pigeons
.
Denver replied, Lets go!
This was something that the staff at the shelter was not too happy about. Mr. Johnson, the staff supervisor for the shelter warned the boys about messing with the pigeons. However, the boys went ahead and destroyed the birds anyway. Denver being the major perpetrator, suggested that they catch the pigeons and cut their heads off! However, Peter just wanted to throw rocks at them.
Hey, Peter quit throwing those rocks; you are messing up the plan
shouted Denver! Remember, we want to catch the birds and cut their fucking heads off!
With a look of fear, Peter said, OK!
Denver, caught one of the pigeons and slaughtered it! I’m going to kill these pigeons just like I will kill on the comedy stage one day.
Peter not knowing what he was talking about replied What do you mean by that statement?
"I’m going to do stand-up comedy one
