Teneshia LaFaye, a mother of two and a native of Florida, almost went to jail three times and once had a car repossessed because her finances were so bad. While she was a locally famous sportswriter for her hometown's daily newspaper, she was embarrased by a reader who spotted her borrowing $1,000 at a pawn shop in order to pay her out-of-control bills. She went through financial struggles and learned her lessons, so you don't have to. She rose from poor credit to excellent credit to build her first home on the biggest lot in a new neighborhood on an upper middle class side of her hometown, Jacksonville, FL. Now, she writes and creates videos regularly about mastering your finances on her site, www.mytensense.com. Her book What My Mom Taught Me About Money is just what you need to get set on your way to a comfortable, secure life.

More of Mom’s Tips
This book is dedicated to my grandfather, Robert Lee Blue, who never hesitated to rescue me from so many financial jams before I decided to take control of my finances and be more responsible with my money.
Preface
By Teneshia LaFaye
When I originally wrote What My Mom Taught Me About Money three years ago, I felt a calling to teach good money habits to teenagers and college students so they wouldn’t have to suffer financially like many adults, including me who struggled throughout my 20s. However, I felt that younger people wouldn’t be able to relate to me. So I asked my oldest son Darian, who was a high school sophomore at the time and an aspiring fiction author, to lend his youthful voice to my money lessons.
Darian, now entering his second year in college, agreed and his perspective of my financial advice makes What My Mom Taught Me About Money more relatable for young readers. But readers of all ages, especially people who need to adopt more responsible financial habits, will be enlightened by my money lessons that are explained throughout this book. There are lessons to learn whether you’re 13 or in your 30s, 40s or 50s.
It is my hope that you internalize my advice, the same that I share with Darian and my youngest son Dominick, in order to change your financial destiny so you don’t have to struggle with money. But if this book has reached you in the midst of your financial struggle, I hope it inspires you to improve your money habits to move you toward a financial breakthrough. Then, I hope you turn around and pass my lessons on to the people you care about so we all can be on the right financial path.
Sincerely rooting for you,
Teneshia LaFaye

Introduction
I love money. It’s no coincidence that I was a fan of the VH1 show by the same name. Even my favorite songs are about money. I just love money, but
