About this ebook

Have you ever felt that no matter what you did or what you said, concerning anything that mattered, your words werent even taken into consideration? Lets say that you have children and youre trying to raise them the way you know, the right way. Then you turn around and someone else is raising your kids and you know its wrong but you have no control. Or maybe you take your kids to a friends home for the week and never call or check. You come back to get them, and you find yourself attending their funeral. It was neglect, that wore DiPetris childhood away. His life was turmoil, never having the chance to do anything for himself in a good way, no choice to make but bad. He had done things through operant learning, knowing that every action had a reaction, and the anticipation of the reaction. Do something wrong and you get to meet someone, that was what it seemed like. Being a part of DYFS has hindered him in so many ways. Never having their help or them being there for him. They took everything from him including his dignity and purpose for living. They had the audacity to not allow his parents full parental control, when DYFS wasnt doing anything for him. DiPetri felt dead to the world, never knowing what his next step was, never understanding whats in line for him. His life was not determined by his actions or behaviors, but yet a mere piece of paper. He felt like a lab rat, so much neglect and research done on him and his life. He was just waiting until the end when enough is enough and his body can't take anymore and shuts down.

Jamil V. Ellison

My name is Jamil Ellison and this is my very first book and it’s one of my greatest accomplishments. I started this book when I was seventeen years old. I started it over something immature and as I got in depth, it soon became real serious real fast. I am nineteen and I absolutely love to write. Writing has always been one of my strong points. Currently I am attending college awaiting, the time when I will further my education toward my career. I am working toward being a Cardiologist and eventually a Cardiovascular surgeon. Writing is my hobby and I didn’t choose to make it my life but I absolutely love and do pretty well at it. I have written two other books called “Dreams” and “Panaceo”. These books and titles are only temporary and have not yet been published and won’t be until mid 2008-09. I am a dedicated and determined person and I won’t stop until I persist. I never would have made without God, my family, and my friends.

    Acknowledgments

I want to take a moment to thank the main factors, which helped me successfully complete my first book. First I have to give praise and thanks to God, my Father. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be alive. I have been in quite a few near death experiences and I am still standing, so I knew God had a plan for me. I also want to thank my family, my mother and father, James and Evangeline Edwards, for always supporting me and caring for me. Even through all my hard and rough times, they stuck with me and I love them for that. My time away in a program helped me become wiser and taught me how to understand myself and how to do things for me. Just as I was that little boy who couldn’t be helped by his friends, is now able to help him. Last but not least the spiritual people who have been in my life, Pastor Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Harper, they helped me understand my Father much better, and how to come closer to Him. Lastly I want to thank my recent inspiration Yasmin C. Thanks to All!

    Prologue

For anyone who reads this, be advised that this is not an ordinary chapter book—it has but two parts. It is a documentary of a child who has had bad experiences with foster families and overall life-changing events. This documentary includes a real-life autobiography, and the events and/or situations described are only those experienced by this child. Any type of information in this documentary is not meant to make anyone stop his or her normal life but to open the eyes of others who may have experienced the same neglect and abuse that this child has, as well as to open the eyes of those who need to see the type of life a confused child lives while in the system. This is a true story about a child who had gone through so many troubles and problems throughout his life. This little child was faced with many obstacles that he had no idea would cross his path and he couldn’t push aside. His troubles ranged from losing a family of eight to facing terrible foster homes to being hit by a car. So let me express just what I know about this little child who is now trying to be all he can be in spite of his duress. Here’s a little bit of knowledge about this remarkable young man.

Keep in mind that the names as well are false. No one’s real name is used. But all information that follows is factual due to the author’s personal experiences and or observations.

    PART I

    DiPetri’s Story

    Early Childhood

It all started in my hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey, where I was born on September 7, 1987, into a single-parent family of three at the Union County Hospital. I knew my mother but never my father. I do know that I kept having this dream that I had seen him. The picture remains vivid in my mind and I yearn to find out its meaning. I grew up in a terrible neighborhood, where there was violence and death left and right, and lived in a dangerous apartment building, where there were killings just about every night in the hallway. My mother moved us out of the apartment to another building that had one big apartment and an Arab landlord named Abu Baeda. Then the family grew and my mother had five more children, all of whom lived in the apartment, which seemed much smaller when there was a family of eight kids: Tom, Otis, DiPetri, Barry, George, Kim, Laura, and Trisha. My mother was very disturbed and extremely emotionally unstable when her own mother died. She just couldn’t take the pressure, so she resorted to drugs and bad company to try to handle her stress. There were many times when we were dependent upon the oldest brother, Tom, who was at the time only twelve years old. Because our mother was away from home in the daytime, she’d leave Tom in charge. Wherever she would go, she’d always be back around or before 6:00 p.m. When she’d get home, she would expect for everything to be done and clean—meaning that we would have eaten a good dinner, the house was clean, and everyone was either taking baths or doing homework. Every night around eight
