James Dean: A Rebel With a Cause: From a Fan’s Tribute

I was only five years old when James Byron Dean died in a car crash on September 30th 1955. By that time James Dean had only made three movies, East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and his biggest Giant"

It was from television, were I got to see all three of James Dean’s movies, but they made a very big impression on me to say the least. He came across to me as being so cool, yet humble and sensitive with a touch of bravado.

I really wish that I had a chance to have known him, or met him at some point in time, but that wasn’t meant to be. I was too young and he died too young.

One might say that I was introduce to James Dean through his three films that I watch on television during the 1960’s, the one I saw the most was Rebel Without a Cause the reason for that I feel has somewhat to do with my father, every time that movie came on T.V. my Dad would watch it, I along with him…James Dean’s two other movies I also watched, but not as many times as that of Rebel Without a Cause maybe it could be due to the reason that my father was a bit of a rebel like James Dean.

It seemed to me that James Dean was a free spirited person, not attached to anyone thing, place or person (expect two people in his live, his mother and actress Pier Angeli). Then and now I wanted so much to be that free, to feel that free.

James Dean gave birth to a new age group that hadn’t existed before, called teenagers. As my mother had told me once, either you were a child or an adult; there were no such thing as teenagers. You were either looked upon as an older child or a younger adult. But James Dean changed all of that with his movie Rebel Without a Cause

With Elvis changing the music of the 1950’s and Jack Kerouac changing the style of writing, James Dean changed with a different type of acting style and life style teenagers!

In the 1950’s we had peace and plenty, but the young people, the teenagers had no say, in the style of clothes they wear, the movies they go to and the music they wanted to listen to.

James Dean combined the acting for of Marlon Brando and Monty Cliff to create a whole new style for himself. He would observe many different people, the way they would walk, talk, and their body language, their expression of different feelings on their faces. He absorbed all of it into his self. He had the wild toughness of Brando and the silent, tenderness and compassionate wanting performance of Cliff that made a great combination, which formed a different style of acting, the results from this was James Dean. He reinvented himself and created a new type of acting, which later actors took up the torch to follow in James Dean’s footsteps, but none, could fill his shoes, not in my opinion.

I want to tell the reader, that this book is not only going to be mostly a biography of James Dean’s life and work, but more, it will be about his effect of me and fans like me, about his three movies and lastly a numerology and psychic character report about James Dean, done by a dear friend of mine named Dr. Tarona Gail Hawkins from England.

This will be a different type of book about the actor James Dean, from his childhood to his early death in a car crash. From a James Dean fan’s point of view, so I do hope that the reader will find it interesting, as well as give him or her hope, to follow the dreams that they have in their hearts and minds, to reach for the stars, to never stop hoping or dreaming.

Some have said, of James Dean, that he was a very moody person, others find him a bit moody, but they could deal with it. I myself am a bit of a moody person, especially when I am working on the type of art form that I like, which is writing books. I do not want to be bothered, by anyone unless it is a very serious situation. I put all my energies, time and sweat into my books, so when I am finished for the day, I like to relax, with either watching a good movie (especially a James Dean movie) or read a good book, or just go for a walk.

James Dean had his way of relieving his tensions, he like to race cars, ride his motorcycle fast, play his bongo drums, sculpture, and draw and paint pictures. He was very good at drawing and painting pictures according to one of his high school teachers, she also noticed in James a very talented potential acting gift, which she help him along with. She encouraged him, she in some ways was like a second mother to him, since his mother died when he was a very young boy, and he loved his mother very much. This, to a large degree stayed with him for the rest of his short 24 years on this earth. His mother too, died young at the age of 29 years old of cancer.

    Chapter Two

I guess that I was drawn to James Dean, because in some ways my father, when he was younger reminded me of James Dean, my father wore a white t-shirt and smoked a lot, my father’s sense of humor was somewhat like James Dean’s my dad would tease people, family friends and neighbors to their limit, just to see how far he could
