    Prologue

    Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he? Isaiah 2:22

    …If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. Isaiah 7:9

    Stop it! Ugh! Why do I keep daydreaming about him? Rebecca Olsen wondered aloud. She was sitting at her desk, trying to study for an upcoming test. This daydreaming just was not a good thing. She had always had an active imagination. She was a daydreamer at heart.

    She stopped and prayed for him for the ninth or tenth time that day. She knew that daydreaming about a man, especially one that she did not know and would probably never meet, was not what God would want for her.

    Since she had found her way back to a personal relationship with God, she had been amazed at the changes that God had brought about. Some things were hard to change, though, like daydreaming. Rebecca had finally started to trust in God for almost everything, but there was still something that her heart desired, something that she was afraid to ask for. A husband. She had been unlucky in love in the past, when she was not following God. Still… what was she really afraid of?

    CUT! shouted the director. Let’s do that one more time. I know it’s getting late. If you can give it just a little more emotion, Greg, we can wrap this scene up and quit for the day. Start again from the top. ….And ACTION!

    Gregory Clarence finished up the scene and walked off the set. He had a passion for making movies, putting all the details together to tell a story. He had always been enthralled with the movies. Ever since he was a kid, he had wanted to know everything there was to know about making movies. Now he was a top actor in the industry. It was a dream come true.

    He wondered why he had an unsettled feeling today. Actually, he had been feeling it for weeks. He could not put his finger on what was wrong. Something was missing in his life, but he had no clue what it could be. He shrugged it off and continued walking. After this movie was completed, he would take a vacation. He needed one. Perhaps he would go to the beach and do some soul searching, or partying, or something.

    Chapter One

    Rebecca sighed. It was such a beautiful, sunny Saturday, and here she was, sitting at her desk, studying her anatomy book. She was finally going after a dream she had passed up years ago. Her first time through college, she had decided not to become a doctor. All that school seemed like too much work. She had just wanted to graduate and get on with her life. She now realized that even though she did not want to become a doctor, the medical field still fascinated her. It had been hard working full time and keeping involved with church and friends. Anatomy was the first step toward that dream. She was studying to become a physical therapist.

    College was also the time when she had drifted away from God. She grew up attending church and Sunday school with her family. Yes, she still believed that there was a God. Yes, she called on Him when she got herself into some scrapes. He was always there for her. She just had not known Him personally. It was so easy to turn her back on Him and try to do it her way. Now, after many years, God had finally drawn her back to Him. It was a wonderful feeling to know that God was her best friend and Lord, the One she could always depend upon.

    Now that she finally understood, it was easy to follow God. By His grace alone, was she saved. Nothing she could do would make her worthy. Only Christ’s death, the perfect sacrifice, was good enough.

    Rebecca thought back. She had come a long way since that day, six years ago, when she asked Christ into her heart. Had it really been that long? God had been the One to take away her fear and shyness. She had not been able to do it. God had blessed her with so many things: health, friends, a good job, nice coworkers. God had even called her to a short-term mission trip, where, she learned, that she really did have a testimony to share. That testimony just kept growing longer with each new blessing.

    But… Always that ‘But‘. Rebecca was happy. She loved working with the kids in Sunday school. She was pursuing a dream that had always been a part of her. She was honored to be used by God — she wanted Him to use her. If that meant that she would stay single, then she was happy with that. She would just ignore the ‘But’. The ‘But’ was something she was afraid to really ask for. She did not know if it was something she would be happy with. It would mean giving up her ‘independence‘. She wondered what life would be like if she were married. There it was. She was afraid to ask for a husband. She was afraid of opening herself up to another person.

    Enough soul searching, Rebecca decided. She still needed to study. Maybe a change of scenery would help. When you live near the ocean, that seems to be the one place you rarely go. She packed up her books and towel and headed out. At least this way, she could enjoy some of God’s handiwork while she tried to study.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Gregory Clarence stood on the balcony and looked out over the ocean. The sound of the waves had such a calming effect on him. He should have done this sooner. His latest picture was a hit. Everyone thought he should be nominated for an award for his work. He should be on top of the world, but something was missing. He just could not figure out what it was.
    He decided that standing on the balcony was not enough. He was at the beach. He should be out there circulating, checking out those string bikinis and the women who wore them.
    Yeah, that would do it. Heather was still on the West Coast working on her sitcom. He was glad to have this couple of weeks alone. He liked Heather. She was beautiful, but sometimes she seemed shallow and annoying, especially lately. Her company did not seem to be enough anymore. He wanted something more.
    Oh, it was fun at first. Lately, though, the relationship was starting to feel like work. Heather was more demanding. She wanted to spend all her free time with him. She wanted to move in with him. He kept putting her off. He could only come up with one reason: he was not ready. He still liked his independence. He did not want to give up his space. It seemed that they were at a crossroad.
    Heather was angry with him for taking this trip without her. She had thrown a fit and refused to drive him to the airport. She was an adult, even though she acted like a spoiled child sometimes. She would get over it. In a few days, she would be talking to him again like nothing had ever happened.
    His walk was invigorating once he stopped thinking of Heather. He looked around. There were not many people on the beach
