About this ebook
JoAnne Tuttle
The author, JoAnne Tuttle, was born in 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas. She has three sons, Donald, Larry and David Holcomb. She attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, graduating in 1965 with a bachelor degree in Christian Education. She worked for twenty years as an Administrative Services Officer for the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, Southwestern Medical School (UTHSCD), retiring in 1994. She married Emery Tuttle in 1971, attesting he is her soul-mate and her inspiration for adventure. Emery has three daughters and one son. Together, they have 18 grand-children, 24 great-grand-children and two great-great-grand-children. But, JoAnne lays claim to being first to become a great-great-grandmother; nevertheless, Emery claims them as his, too. JoAnne has always written poetry, but only in the past few years did she began to collect these poems from old envelopes, notebooks and scratch paper to compile them into a book. She also composes all of her greeting cards. Another hobby she loves is sewing. She especially loves making quilts for the grandbabies, family and friends. She enjoys doing scrap-crafting, making something from someone else’s ‘trash,’ and calling it her “Renewed Treasures.” She loves to travel, claiming “adventure” is her middle-name. In 2001, at age 67, JoAnne attained her private pilot’s license; three years after Emery acquired his license at age 76. Emery was a WWII pilot, but had not flown in over 50 years and had to start fresh. Since obtaining their licenses, they have traveled the U.S. together in their single-engine-home-built RV-6A plane. Adventure is their cup of tea. They designed and built their home at Cedar Creek Lake in 1991, and have enjoyed many projects and adventures together over the years. They are active in their church and community and their life’s statement continues to be – “It’s not over ‘til it’s over.”

MEET THE AUTHOR
JoAnne Tuttle
P R E F A C E
I have believed since high school dayswhen I studied literature, that one of thereasons poetry was so difficult to understandwas because there was no backgroundinformation that went with each poem to tellme why
the author wrote his poem. Withthis thought in mind, I introduce my wife’spoems.
JoAnne raised three boys, a brunette, ablond and a redhead. She married me in 1971. She worked for the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas (UTHSCD) for twenty years until she retired in 1994.
She writes about me and the people sheworked with, including doctors, residents, medical record clerks, secretaries, laboratorytechnicians and other friends. In addition, she writes about her family, her father andmother, siblings and their offspring, her boysand their offspring, her grandmother, herself, holidays, vacations, nature and---life.
Some of her poems express deep religiousconvictions and experiences. Some poems arehappy; several are sad; many are funny; anda number of have a deeper moralsignificance. Most of her poems tell you agreat deal about her. All are meant to beenjoyed.
Footnoted to some of her poems, you will befilled in with a little background thatinspired its writing; such as the girl who dropped her drawers (panties) in themiddle of the street.
Or the time hot coffeewas spilled on JoAnne’s lap, right close to the promise-land.
Or else, she might tell you towhom that poem was dedicated. I trust thisinsight will help you enjoy her poems more.
Maybe her poems will make you laugh alittle, or feel a little chill bump. It is my hopethat you will enjoy sharing her thoughts, experiences and life.

TWO LOVE POEMS TO MY WIFE

Turns into winter
I’ll be there with
Great anticipation
For the loveliness of you
Now grows day by day, and
With each New Year there’s more

JoANNIE, JoANNIE
When everything is looking blue
I stop the hurt by thinking you
Will come to me with open arms
And show me of your many charms
Your eyes betray a devilish scheme
And beckon come into your dream
To penetrate that carnal scheme
We can feast on love’s sweet dream

DEDICATIONS
Initially, let me say there are many thingsthat inspire a poet to write; however, I mustdedicate my poetic efforts first to myhusband, Emery Tuttle, who is my soul mate. He brought many, many new and wonderfulexperiences into my life; and without hisinfluence, I would have lived a rathercolorless life. Thank you for bringing color, fun, adventures and love into my life, Emery. I had written poetry since childhood, but itwas only after we were married that Istarted to collect and keep my poems.
Second, but not least by any means, Idedicate this book of poetry to my lovely Christian friend and mentor, Crystal Elliott. She inspired and affirmed me to write andinfluenced me to do my best. Withoutdisparage, condemnation or exaggerationof its value, she always inspired andconfirmed my work. She bragged on me andblessed me. Without her atta-girl,
love andencouragement, I, possibly, would not haveattempted to publish my poems.
Thank you for your love, encouragementand Christian influence upon my life, Crystal.
Finally, I must dedicate these poems to allwho read them with my sincere hope thatyou will enjoy sharing in my life and thoughts.
However, in addition, I want to thank thestaff at iUniverse for helping this computerchallengedpoet to publish.

PROVERBS 31:10; 30
"...An excellent wife, who can find?
For her worth is far above jewels...
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But, a woman who fears the Lord,
She shall be praised..."
A VIRTUOUS WOMAN
Gracious is the word
That describes you to a tee
Kindness is the way you act
With everyone you see
If anyone attempts to look
A flaw would not be found
Day and night you’re the same
With no one else around
You represent the woman
That every girl should be
You are a virtuous woman
And a gracious friend to me
JoAnne Tuttle 2009
Dedicated to Crystal Elliot with my love, admiration, respect, blessings and my deepest gratitude for your love and inspiration. I miss the fact that we don’t live closer to each other.

A Name is a Name
Perhaps you’ve never realized
I guess I’ve never said
But I’m just a full-fledge " Tuttle"
From my toes up to my head
Of all the names I could have had
Of all the names there are
" Tuttle" is the name you gave me
And I like it best by far!
Some have called us Turtle
And Tootle,
Ttttee
" Tuddle
But we both know the real truth
Our name is just plain Tuttle
Although we get some teasing
...They pun upon our name
No matter what they call us
I like it all the same
If I had the choice to change it
To any name I’d choose
There’s no other name I like
There’s no other name I’d use
If ever you should leave me
I would make just one request
I must keep my name " Tuttle

My name--my sign
Another personal thing in line
Is my body
That’s strictly mine

A CINDERELLA WISH
A Cinderella-life was my dream
To go to balls and everything
The only things I would not adore
Are all the times she cleaned the floor
It would be nice to have a knight
Who’d chase after me with all his might
Wearing glass slippers would be real neat
However glass slippers might pinch my feet
My own fairy-godmother to grant my whim
Of course I’d like a couple of them
But a stepmom like hers would be no fun
I’m really glad I don’t have one
Now the more I think about these dreams
A true nightmare is what it seems
If I could choose whom I’m to be
I must confess, I’d be just me

A SIMPLE COMPLEXITY
...That’s Me
I’ve yet to find the real self--me
I should be one-it seems I’m three
Because sometimes I see inside
A little girl who’s big, wide-eyed
Then as I look again I see
She’s all grown up--a woman she
Then quickly now that view is gone
She changed again; she’s not alone
A tow-head boy, a red-head, too
A head of brown--three boys I view
Things changed again; these boys are men
Their own families they will begin
Out of the blue, more bundles of joy
Five little girls and one little boy
As these six grow, I view my role
I’m getting gray--I’m getting old
My life no doubt had changed again
My little boys were all grown men
Their little families were growing, too
Then without warning, suddenly I knew
That life-changes will go on and on for me
At first step one, then two, then three...
Once a simple life I had--just me
But now I simply have--complexity
06.01.71
Notation: My complexity will be revised again and again...as
