About this ebook

Using words as a microscope, the poems of M. Skye Holly.do not simply scratch the surface of what is seen. These poems find what has been ignored and dig deeper for what is thought and felt. The works of in depth are divided into sections to hold a mirror to the spirit that everyone is, the soul that everyone has, the body that everyone lives through and the community that everyone lives in. Sometimes posing questions, other times offering solutions, in depth showcases parts of life and experience coming together to create one big picture. Or one deep poem.

    SPIRIT

    glyphs.jpg

    I am (not) Spiritual

    I am not spiritual

    because I don’t eat pork.

For all you know, I could just be

    allergic.

    Because I’m just a vegetarian

    currently in

    what you might call

    broken fellowship

    like your Easter Christian

    or your high holiday Jew;

what I eat has little or nothing to do

    with me

    being spiritual.

What comes out of my mouth is

    even more important than what

    goes into it,

    because I don’t eat pork

does that make me more enlightened?

    No,

it’s just good for my cholesterol,

    won’t make me a righteous know-it-all.

    I am not spiritual because

I like to light a candle.

I happen to like the scent

    of hazelnut and vanilla.

The scent will fill the room

but only the Holy Spirit can fill you.

    When a saint says

they need help in the midnight hour

    that candle

    will only

    burn out after it flickers.

    I am not spiritual

because I have read a few self-help books.

    I read some

    because I needed some help!

    But in this age

    of self-help

    I will always

    acknowledge

    my spirit help

    that does

for my spirit, soul and body

what I can’t do for myself.

    I am spiritual

because I know the great I AM

    and I am

    what I am

    that He says I am.

    I am spiritual because I

    know the destination

    to my own Promised Land.

I know who walked on water

and wrote with His fingers in the sand.

It’s not about counting to three

and taking a deep yoga breath.

    That won’t save me

    from spiritual death.

The breath of life was blown

    into me

    and I love this stuff

    that I’m breathing...

I am spiritual because I choose to make sound decisions.

I choose to go from stage to stage

grow out of the baby phase

and go from milk to solid food, being spiritual is

    about recognizing what’s good.

    The good that’s in you

    and the goodness of

    the One
