      I move my plate closer to me so that I would not have to reach too far over and scrape at it to get the pieces of pancake. The restaurant is a few doors away from my office, however I hardly ever come here. I was lucky to get a seat at the window when I came in. It is popular for sure, not only with the working men and women around but also with many groups of college students. Sometimes it can be the furthest thing from quiet but that does not make it any less relaxing than a quiet bar during a weekday.

      From the corner of my eye the waitress approaches. She is a short blonde with a face shaped as round as a pie. She'd been here ten minutes earlier so I knew that it would be in her routine to stop and check up on me sometime soon again.

      She stops at my table and turns to me. Is there anything else I could get you? she asks.

      I think for a second. Sure. Can I have five more of those delicious breadsticks to go, please?

      Yup. Anything else to drink?

      She is courteous and patient and I'd already planned on tipping her when it was time to leave. I look over at my half- empty glass of ginger-ale. I guess I'll have another one of those.

      Coming right up. She disappears in the direction she came from and I look out of the window.
