One day while on a field trip, I was bitten by a radioactive writer. Thus, I was granted the proportional imagination and typing speed of a writer. I also found that I could stick notes to walls and developed an early warning “grammar sense.” Eventually, I learned that with great action verbs comes great sentences. From that day forward, I was The Somewhat Impressive Writer-Man!But really...Joe Rover is the pen name of an author who spends his time writing many family-friendly fictional stories. “Joe” has been a journalist, computer programmer, photographer, and graphic designer. He is currently studying digital animation and business. He has won many awards, such as the "Magic Holiday Thrills" contest and the "Write to Rank" Orange Belt round.

Alone: A Wizard of New Town Story
Max, Aleya, and Ryan divided for cover as the dragon churned out another round of red-hot breath. Flames roared over the heads of the heroes as they panted.
Dragons!
shouted Max. I thought you said there were no dragons!
No,
said Aleya. I said they should be sleeping.
Max waved his hands wildly. Dragons!
How is this possible?
asked Ryan, his Irish accent sneaking in from his panic and fear. They haven’t woken in ages.
I think I might be of assistance.
The trio jumped with a yelp
at the newcomer’s voice. They spun to face the middle-age knight seeking shelter next to them.
Where did you come from?!
said Max.
Oh…I’ve been here for awhile. The name is Sir Corporal, Knight of the Land of New Town.
The three quest-goers gave various greetings. My companions and I were tasked with the responsibility of watching over the dragons. They have been calm and quiet, for decades as you said; but suddenly, some strange pulse-wave struck us.
Max and the others exchanged a knowing glance; the Wizard’s spell was responsible. That’s when the dragons rose from their slumber and began attacking. I fear that once they are done with Stytron, they will move on to the rest of New Town…possibly the whole world…even the uncivilized parts.
Max turned his attention to Aleya and Ryan. I suppose neither of you know how to defeat a dragon.
Both lowered their heads and shook no
slowly. "*sigh* That’s what I was afraid of."
I know how to tame the beast,
said Sir Corporal. Max, Aleya, and Ryan could barely contain their excitement; they began to faintly vibrate. Sir Corporal removed a chain with what looked like a thin piece of plastic from around his neck. The object looked suspiciously like a keycard. Max noticed it read, Corporal Thomas Cobalt.
You will need my amulet and that of Lady Lieutenant.
Sir Corporal pointed towards an area that looked a lot like a missile control panel, but outside. It was like someone had transported the panel, whole, outside. Both must be placed in the Altar of Dragons in order to return them to their slumber. You must enter the amulets simultaneously and then read the Spell of Abort.
Where is this Lady Lieutenant?
asked Aleya.
Sir Corporal pointed to a young woman bracing against a boulder as a dragon scratched and clawed at the nearby rocks trying to seize her.
Of course that’s her,
sighed Max. He faced Sir Corporal. Why can’t you take the amulets to the altar?
I would,
said Sir Corporal. But while Lady Lieutenant and I were battling a dragon, she accidently shot me in the knee with an arrow.
Ryan opened his mouth. I put my hand in front of his face. Don’t go there,
I said.
I’m afraid only you three can save Lady Lieutenant.
And now Dogboy Reborn…
Space, the Final Vacation Spot
Jessica floated aimlessly. The Earth spun slowly before her. In truth, it was her that spun. She’d been on the ship’s deck thinking over Johnny’s marriage proposal when something or someone ran into her and bumped her overboard.
The life jacket, a requirement for anyone wishing to venture outside, would keep her safe but only for a moment. Somewhere, in the back of her mind, she wondered if anyone knew she was gone. After all, in space, no one can hear you scream.
A sudden bright light drew her attention. Some form began to appear in the light. The figure she saw emerging from the light resembled a human-sized dog. He seemed to be wearing a fire hydrant on his back.
Dogboy,
Jessica sighed and then collapsed.

I cradled the young woman, Jessica, in my arms. SPOT, my artificial intelligent crime-fighting warning system (it used to be called WOOF until one of Brain’s updates turned it into a psychotic killing machine that trapped us in Brain’s lab—Brain had to rework
the system afterwards), picked up the distress signal from Cruise X. Luckily, I was nearby testing the new spacefaring modifications Brain installed into the Dogfighter jet.
The space cruise company has had trouble of late. A meteor hit one ship nearly sinking the craft on their trip to Venus; a bout of food poisoning during the three hour tour to the gas giants caused a scandal; and then someone came aboard the asteroid belt island hopping
cruise with the Medoling crybird flu—the crew and passengers had to be quarantined for a week. Now, someone went overboard.
I’m sure these accidents have nothing to do with Cruise X’s stocks going down and CosmoTrip’s, the competition, stocks going up. Pffft, yeah, and I got a space bridge on Neptune I can sell you.
I had to shield my eyes for a bit while I
