About this ebook

Max quickly sat upright. Full of chaos, he patted himself down. He was whole. He then scrambled backwards as he saw where he was. It was unnaturally dark. Infinite blackness stretched as far as he could see. The only peace from the all-consuming dark was the old, moss covered walls made of cobblestone or steel.

The time is finally here. Max’s quest is almost complete. Or so he thought.

The plan seemed easy enough: go to Upton, get the book, defeat The Wizard; but Max soon learns there are many more dangers lurking within the shining city. After arriving in Upton, Max is separated from his friends and must face the darkness alone. Will he continue his quest now that his support system is gone?

If you are a fan of fantasy and magic then join Max as he uncovers the truth behind his destiny in the latest The Wizard of New Town adventure.

One day while on a field trip, I was bitten by a radioactive writer. Thus, I was granted the proportional imagination and typing speed of a writer. I also found that I could stick notes to walls and developed an early warning “grammar sense.” Eventually, I learned that with great action verbs comes great sentences. From that day forward, I was The Somewhat Impressive Writer-Man!But really...Joe Rover is the pen name of an author who spends his time writing many family-friendly fictional stories. “Joe” has been a journalist, computer programmer, photographer, and graphic designer. He is currently studying digital animation and business. He has won many awards, such as the "Magic Holiday Thrills" contest and the "Write to Rank" Orange Belt round.

Road Trip: A Life of Ace Journeyman Story

It was naturally a dark and stormy night when it happened.

Lightning flashed. Thunder roared. The winds howled. The rain fell as if the floodgates of Heaven Itself were open. Hail the size of pineapples smashed into vehicles. Fifteen foot waves crashed on the shoreline. Evacuations were long underway as the wind ripped off roofs and tore down trees. But deep within the bowls of the Blue Light Technologies skyscraper, they continued to work.

The storm is growing! yelled one scientist. She wiped at her fogged over safety glasses, the stress of the test getting to her.

Pay no attention! We are safe here! another voice shouted.

Workers of all shapes and sizes pushed buttons, pulled levers, checked readouts, and tightened bolts—everything must be perfect. After years of study and failure, the machine was complete. It only need be turned on successfully.

Once the Quantum Realm Flux Generator 3000 (or QRFG 3000 for short) was operational, humanity would finally receive the virtual reality simulator they’ve always wanted. Nay, the QRFC was more than just a simple virtual reality machine! It was the ultimate virtual reality experience! The simulations would be beyond real!

While the workers scrambled below, a clean shaven young man of average build slapped his hand on a table. His overlooking position within the control room make him appear almost godlike; the booming, echoing sound of his voice over the lab’s PA system only added to the illusion. Mr. Darkk, turn the dial to five!

Yes, Mr. Lite, came the response.

Lucas Lite pivoted rigidly towards the visiting shareholders and smiled brightly. It’ll work this time, Amadeus.

Amadeus Steel tapped the screen of a readout before placing his hands back behind his back. It’d better. The board can’t keep paying for your failures.

No, said Lite, standing as straight as he could—he would not show them fear. It’ll work.

And now The Wizard of New Town…

    Flight of the Dragons

Max, Aleya, and Ryan dived for cover as the dragon churned out another round of red-hot breath. Flames roared over the heads of the heroes as they pressed their backs against the small rock formation. The nearby desert sand instantly turned to glass from the heat and innocent tumbleweeds combusted into rolling fireballs.

Dragons! shouted Max. I thought you said there were no dragons!

No, said Aleya. I said they should be sleeping.

Max waved his hands wildly. Dragons!

How is this possible? asked Ryan, his Irish accent sneaking in from his panic and fear. The years spent creating game walkthroughs on MyVideo allowed him to better hide his accent and sound more average, but now and then it crept back in. They haven’t woken in ages.

I think I might be of assistance.

The trio jumped with a yelp at the newcomer’s voice. They spun to face the middle-age knight slumped next to them. A pool of blood grew near the knight. The fresh blood was still wet and red.

Where did you come from?! said Max.

Oh…I’ve been here for awhile. The name is Sir Corporal, Knight of the Land of New Town.

Aleya performed the proper curtsy of the elven royalty, which she did perfectly despite the dragon fireballs exploding near her. Ryan almost said his MyVideo intro out of habit; but remembering that the Internet no longer existed, switched to just a hey. Max had no catchphrase, so he waved weakly.

Sir Corporal saluted weakly before continuing. My companions and I were tasked with the responsibility of watching over the dragons. They have been calm and quiet for decades; but suddenly, some strange pulse-wave struck us. Max and the others exchanged a knowing glance: the Wizard’s spell was responsible.

That’s when the dragons rose from their slumber and began attacking. The knight puffed out a groan as he shifted positions in order to better meet the trio’s faces. I fear that once they are done with Stytron, they will move on to the rest of New Town…possibly the whole world…even the uncivilized parts.

Max turned his attention to Aleya and Ryan. I suppose neither of you know how to defeat a dragon. Both lowered their heads and shook a sad and slow no. Max blew a long, depressed sigh, which sounded almost like a tire leaking. That’s what I was afraid of.

I know how to tame the beasts, said Sir Corporal. Max, Aleya, and Ryan could barely contain their excitement; they began to faintly
