Melissa Szydlek lives in the United States. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she survived Detroit for many years and has settled into a quieter life in North Carolina with her husband and two dogs. She is an avid animal rights activist and dedicated vegetarian. She is also a Ph.D. candidate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. With her dog, Artie (a certified Therapy Dog and AKC Canine Good Citizen) she visits nursing facilities and soldiers to bring comfort through animal-assisted therapy. She excels in the horror genre and her work tends to take a darker tone. She will be published in two Create50 initiatives, Twisted Volume 2,
a horror anthology, and Singularity 50,

The third bar he tried was fancier, and in a better neighborhood than the others. He thought the more expensive the drinks, the better chance of finding the bourbon he was looking for. Randy pushed through the dark mahogany doors of Lavish Lounge
and had to roll his eyes.
The rich certainly liked to think of themselves as upscale, didn’t they? He thought. They can’t even call it a ‘bar.’ It’s a ‘lounge.’
The inside was certainly lavish – no naugahyde bar stools with ripped seats or stained bar tops here. No, Lavish Lounge was certainly classy. It even had tall bar stools made from the same dark mahogany as its doors, along with onyx counters, slate floors, subdued lighting in gold fixtures, and a clientele that looked like they were dressed for the Audi Polo Invitational. Randy entered onto a balcony-like area that overlooked the large space. The bar was down the stairs and to the left, with plush leather couches and large chairs to the right. A small dance floor sat atop another raised area at the back of the lounge.
Randy made his way to the bar and slid the stool out. It felt heavy, solid, and rich as he sat down. The bartender, a young man in his late 20’s Randy guessed,
