    INTRODUCTION

Have you ever looked in the mirror and realized that God has a covering on your life? Well, neither have I, it took me more than a quick peek in the mirror to realize this. What’s even more amazing is that no matter what I did or allowed the devil to do in my life, God always forgave and covered me. Don’t get me wrong; I have paid for my mistakes, but God’s mercy is what delivered me. Another important detail I seemed to overlook is that God is always with you even when your mind, body, and spirit is not with Him.

Listen, I'm no church girl in any way, don't misunderstand me; I went to church as a child but in the words of my mother—We don't go to church for the benefit of others, we go to feed and grow our personal and spiritual relationship with God. Did you know that the relationship we have with God solely depends on seeking Him? Not verbally or even with some grand gesture; simply seek Him, and you will find Him. The Bible says God is at work in everyone's life; so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us (Acts 17:27). I know you are probably wondering how it could be this simple, because most relationships we have is usually all about giving and taking or in most cases, someone is just taking while you are giving, or you have to possess some special gift, talent, image, or offer something of materialistic value to the other person. Great news! God does not require any of those things; we are all looking for a meaningful and fulfilling connection in life.

I am guilty of complaining about the following: I help everyone, but no one helps me, or Send me someone to talk to, God. Someone who actually understands me. News flash!! That oh-so-special person with the ability to read your mind, protect, understand, nourish and take care of you (you know the one that knows you inside and out), has been with you since you were a seed planted in your mother’s womb. Ironic right? The person you desire the most has been silently loving and protecting you since the beginning of time. Take a moment and think of a time in your life when you thought you would not make it or the time you were so stressed and everything seemed impossible, or even that time you were about to do something wrong. You know that still small voice in your heart that told you to hold on well, that was God.

This story is a work of fiction; however, all the temptations, behaviors, and situations are what can happen in real life. This book is not intended to hurt shame or judge. It is simply meant to reveal that the daily battle against flesh and spirit, good and evil, wrong and right is real. Spiritual warfare is real, the devil is real.

    God is real!

    CHAPTER 1

    (Queen’s story)

I am the Lord thy God, you shall have no other Gods before me...

...for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

    (Exodus 20:2-3; 1 Timothy 6:10)

    Past

Iran into the house frantically looking for my pink bubble gum lip balm, my best friend, Monique, sprinted in behind me.

Hurry up. My future husband will be walking past soon she squealed.

Okay, I replied as I snatched the lip balm from the counter and coated my full lips until they shined like a brand new car. Monique checked herself in the mirror before heading back outside. I walked to the porch, shielding my eyes from the bright sun while Monique was doing her usual routine, chatting lively with me as she sat in a chair backward with her pink lace thong in full view for the boys to see as they strolled by. I, on the other hand, watched as my long time classmate, Blade, walked past my house with his friends. He was four years older than Monique and me. I locked eyes with Blade and I gave him a quick head nod and he responded with a smile.

Looking good, Monique, Blade’s homeboy Fox yelled.

All the time, Monique replied not bothering to turn around. I looked up as they began to disappear around the corner and noticed Blade watching me. I blushed and turned my attention back to Monique.

Girl, I’m sick of Fox. He knows fully well that I’m not interested him. Blade is the man I want! she exclaimed. I frowned.

Whatever girl, we are not offering goodies for free. Now, hurry up so we can get ready for our appointments, and call Lola, her 3:00 should be here shortly.

Monique laughed, adjusting her cleavage as she followed me to the basement. A few minutes later, I heard a light knock on the door. I opened it to find my aunt’s 40-year-old boss, Dr. Anthony, grinning from ear to ear as he looked me up and down.

Hello handsome, I purred and smiled while taking 4 crisp $100 dollar bills from his hand and leading him inside, keeping my eyes firmly glued to his.

    Present

My name is Queen, I am 23 years old, and money is my motivation. I’m not out here chasing men nor do I have silly dreams of becoming a wife or a baby making machine to some no-good husband. I only have one meaningful relationship and that is with money. It never disappoints; it may take a temporary leave of absence, but with the right moves, you can always count on its return.

I was born and raised in Oakland, California. I don't know my father and my mother left me when I was a baby. Honestly, it doesn't even bother me; I was raised by my aunt Libby and lived with her and my cousin, Lola. Lola was the definition of evil; she did not like me and went above and beyond to remind me that I was in her domain. She never let me forget I didn't have parents who cared enough to stick around. I loved Lola as much as you could love a coworker, just enough to make it through your 8 hours with limited cordial conversation. Lola was brown skinned with long hair and a curvaceous figure. She gloated about how men preferred her over most women. Lola was really beautiful, but her inside was ugly. She felt the need to constantly put other women down to make herself feel better. As much as I
