    About The Geneva Bible

    The Geneva Bible is one of the most historically significant translations of the Bible into English, preceding the King James translation by 51 years. It was the primary Bible of 16th century Protestantism and was the Bible used by William Shakespeare, Oliver Cromwell, John Knox, John Donne, and John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim's Progress (1678). It was one of the Bibles taken to America on the Mayflower (Pilgrim Hall Museum and Dr. Jiang have collected several bibles of Mayflower passengers). The Geneva Bible was used by many English Dissenters, and it was still respected by Oliver Cromwell's soldiers at the time of the English Civil War, in the booklet Cromwell's Soldiers' Pocket Bible.

    This version of the Bible is significant because, for the very first time, a mechanically printed, mass-produced Bible was made available directly to the general public which came with a variety of scriptural study guides and aids (collectively called an apparatus), which included verse citations that allow the reader to cross-reference one verse with numerous relevant verses in the rest of the Bible, introductions to each book of the Bible that acted to summarize all of the material that each book would cover, maps, tables, woodcut illustrations, indices, as well as other included features — all of which would eventually lead to the reputation of the Geneva Bible as history's very first study Bible. Because the language of the Geneva Bible was more forceful and vigorous, most readers strongly preferred this version to the Great Bible. In the words of Cleland Boyd McAfee, it drove the Great Bible off the field by sheer power of excellence.

    The Geneva Bible followed the Great Bible of 1539, the first authorized bible in English, which was the authorized bible of the Church of England.

    During the reign of Queen Mary I of England (1553–58), a number of Protestant scholars fled from England to Geneva, Switzerland, which was then ruled as a republic in which John Calvin and, later, Theodore Beza, provided the primary spiritual and theological leadership. Among these scholars was William Whittingham, who supervised the translation now known as the Geneva Bible, in collaboration with Myles Coverdale, Christopher Goodman, Anthony Gilby, Thomas Sampson, and William Cole; several of this group later became prominent figures in the Vestments controversy. Whittingham was directly responsible for the New Testament, which was complete and published in 1557, while Gilby oversaw the Old Testament.

    The first full edition of this Bible, with a further revised New Testament, appeared in 1560 (this publication), but it was not printed in England until 1575 (New Testament) and 1576 (complete Bible). Over 150 editions were issued; the last probably in 1644. The very first Bible printed in Scotland was a Geneva Bible, which was first issued in 1579. In fact, the involvement of Knox and Calvin in the creation of the Geneva Bible made it especially appealing in Scotland, where a law was passed in 1579 requiring every household of sufficient means to buy a copy.

    Η πρώτη γνωστή μετάφραση της Βίβλου στα Ελληνικά ονομάζεται Μετάφραση των Εβδομήκοντα (LXX; 3ος–1ος αιώνας π.Χ.). Το LXX γράφτηκε στην Κοινή Ελληνιστική γλώσσα. Περιέχει την Εβραϊκή Βίβλο μεταφρασμένη από τα Εβραϊκά και τα Αραμαϊκά. Επιπλέον, περιλαμβάνει αρκετά ακόμη έγγραφα, τα οποία θεωρείται ότι έχουν διαφορετικά επίπεδα αυθεντίας από διάφορες Χριστιανικές εκκλησίες.     Ο Αγάπιος της Κρήτης μετέφρασε και εξέδοσε το 1543 το βιβλίο των Ψαλμών στα Νέα Ελληνικά.Μια ελληνική και πολυγλωσσική έκδοση του Πεντάτευχου, που συχνά αποκαλείται Πεντάτευχος της Κωνσταντινούπολης, και η οποία εκδόθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1547 από Ρωμανιώτες Εβραίους, έχει το Εβραϊκό κείμενο στη μέση της σελίδας, με μια Γεβανική μετάφραση στη μία πλευρά και μία Ιουδαϊκή-Ισπανική μετάφραση στην άλλη.

    Με την πρωτοβουλία του προ-Αναμορφωμένου Πατριάρχη Κυρίλλου Λούκαρις της Κωνσταντινούπολης, ο Μάξιμος Καλλιουπολίτης (ή Καλλιπολίτης, αποθανών το 1633) μετέφρασε μια δημοτική Καινή Διαθήκη από το 1629, η οποία τυπώθηκε στη Γενεύη το 1638.

    Μία έκδοση της Καινής Διαθήκης στα Νέα Ελληνικά μεταφρασμένη από το Σεραφείμ της Μυτιλήνης επιμελήθηκε στο Λονδίνο το 1703 από τη Βρετανική Κοινότητα της Διάδοσης του Ευαγγελίου σε Ξένα Μέρη. Η Έκδοση του Βασιλιά Ιακώβου χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως η κύρια πηγή για τη μετάφραση αυτήν. Ο Βάμβας ήταν κοσμήτορας και καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Αθήνας.

    Το 1901, ο Αλέξανδρος Πάλλης μετέφρασε τα Ευαγγέλια στα Νέα Ελληνικά. Αυτή η μετάφραση ήταν γνωστή ως Ευαγγελικά (Ευαγγελικά). Υπήρξαν εξεγέρσεις στην Αθήνα όταν η εν λόγω μετάφραση εκδόθηκε στην εφημερίδα. Φοιτητές πανεπιστημίου διαμαρτυρήθηκαν ότι εκείνος προσπάθησε να πουλήσει τη χώρα στους Σλάβους και τους Τούρκους προκειμένου να σπάσει την Ελληνική θρησκευτική και εθνική ενότητα. Όλες οι μεταφράσεις κατασχέθηκαν. Η Ιερά Σύνοδος της Ελληνικής Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας αποφάσισε ότι οποιαδήποτε μετάφραση των Ιερών Ευαγγελίων είναι βλάσφημη και περιττή. Επιπλέον "συμβάλλει στη σκανδάλιση της συνείδησης [των Ελλήνων] και στη διαστρέβλωση των θεϊκών εννοιών και των διδακτικών μηνυμάτων [των Ευαγγελίων].

Αρχικά χρησιμοποιούταν ευρέως τόσο για λογοτεχνικούς όσο και για επίσημους σκοπούς, σπάνια όμως στην καθημερινότητα. Τον 20ο αιώνα, υιοθετήθηκε όλο και περισσότερο για επίσημους σκοπούς, ώσπου η Δημοτική έγινε η επίσημη γλώσσα της Ελλάδας το 1976 από τον υπουργό και εκπαιδευτικό Γεώργιο Ράλλη, ενώ αργότερα το 1982 ο Ανδρέας Παπανδρέου κατήργησε το πολυτονικό σύστημα γραφής και στη Δημοτική και στην Καθαρεύουσα.

    Lutherse vertaling (1648)

    Aan het begin van de zeventiende eeuw was bij de lutheranen de in 1560 verschenen Biestkensbijbel in gebruik. Daarnaast lazen veel immigranten een Duitstalige Lutherbijbel. De behoefte de eigen identiteit te handhaven ten opzichte van de gereformeerden, wier Statenvertaling veel te veel van de lutherse bijbel afweek, bracht de lutheranen ertoe zelf een vertaling van de Lutherbijbel in het Nederlands te maken. Bovendien wenste men de Duitstalige leden van de kerk een goede Nederlandse vertaling te geven, zodat het gebruik van de Duitse bijbel zou verdwijnen

    Op de synode van 1644 werd een commissie samengesteld, onder voorzitterschap van de Amsterdamse predikant A. Visscher, die opdracht kreeg de bestaande Biestkensbijbel te herzien aan de hand van een goede uitgave van de Duitse Lutherbijbel. In 1648 verscheen deze bijbel. Hoewel op de titelpagina de indruk gewekt werd dat men met een geheel nieuwe vertaling van doen had, was dit niet het geval. Vermoedelijk is dit zo geformuleerd omdat het voor de lutheranen belangrijk was een nieuwe vertaling te hebben. Dit droeg bij aan het zelfbewustzijn. Toch beschouwde men spoedig Visscher als vertaler en dat werd ook vanaf 1734 op de titelpagina's vermeld.

    Gods word is surely the most wonderful and astounding text given mankind throughout all time. Only a thourough study of it can unlock its secrets. We believe it is critical, not just in this time and age, to understand Gods nature. At present everything seems to be upside down, where good is bad and bad is good. Our direction and compass is knowing God wrote His word to stand the test of time since He clearly wrote it prophetically, seeing the end from the beginning. How do we know? We know because He has confirmed many of the events that are happening in the world and have happened even within our own small lifespan. God has spoken of and prophecied about world wide events in The Bible and these prophecies are unique. You will not find anything like The Bible on planet Earth with such mindblowing accuracy and precision. But on a smaller level, each man and woman needs to make up their mind and walk out that which God tells them. That is when we have the signs and wonders following, by acting upon and putting our trust in The word of God, The Bible. It is indeed written that Jesus Christ is the author of our faith and what more can we ask for. I have personally seen people healed from incurable sicknesses such as HIV. Through the authority Jesus gave us I have cast out Demons, seen metal disappear from a body and be replaced with normal bones. I have set people free from the smallest sickness to terminal sickness and I can testify of the immense joy that follows a battle fought and won! There are many witnesses of the signs and wonders that will happen to anyone who choose to believe God and dares to walk the talk. Surely, The Body of Christ is active and alive and God is good to His children! But we need to heed His word and seek the knowledge He has for us. Not just through the word, but through closeness with God and active fellowship with our brothers and sisters. The Holy Spirit will always confirm The Truth that Jesus Christ of Nazareth wants to share with us.

    But do not just take this for granted. Gods word can surely be dug into, tested, verified and found worthy. But for you to incorporate it into your life and see the reality of it, requires faith. Living faith, not dead faith. A heartbeat at a time, day by day, feeding upon The Word of God and enjoying the fruit of The Spirit. When we ask God, pursuit the truth He has set before us, He will surely answer in time. Do not think it will lead you to nowhere, cause it will not. This is not just some senseless gong ho as unbelievers will have it, sprinkled with nice stories of miracles and what not. Far from it. We have seen this time and time again. The truth is singular and our creator is true and The One and only I AM. There are no multiple Gods here, that is a lie from the devil. Neither is God a floating self-aware entity made up by every living being. Earth, or Gaia as many calls it is a fiction and a fairytale. How we have stumbled, fallen and seen death all around us, but never did it enlighten us until Jesus Christ of Nazareth came and showed us the truth and nothing but the truth. He is surely the way, the truth and the life. Unless a person walks it out according to Gods knowledge, that person will continue sleepwalking until the very end. Such an end would be sad to say the least. Wake up now and taste the goodness of God and draw close to Him and He will draw close to you! And if you have already woken up, but are walking around feeling sleepy: *fight* in order to not fall asleep again, seek Father with all your heart, mind and soul and be vigilant in doing so! Even so, I must admit I have no clue as to how God has managed to put together The Bible in the way He has. To my own intellect I looked at The Bible as flawed, beyond repair and full of tairytales. But that was before I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and experienced the power of God through an evangelist who took The Bible literal. The signs and wonders have not stopped since. Not because of me, but because God never changes and He has clearly showed that He wants everyone saved! Hands down, this is the best news I have ever heard and experienced! Love your God with all your heart, with all your might and everthing you are and you will surely conquer whatever comes against you, no matter the size or seeming severity. God seeks your heart, your attention and your affection. Through Him you will overcome the desires and the lusts of this world and live a life of abundance into eternity.

    Please forgive me for being so blunt and straight forward. I sincerely wish for you all to be and walk in the blessing God has for you. Some of you are even walking in what feels like a desert, but remember that God will chastise those He loves. Not because He hates us, on the contrary. He is our Father if we let Him, and He will always see to it that as long as we listen to Him we will carry more fruit. And sometimes a time in the desert is needed. Even so, please fear not, because God is surely on your side when you seek Him with all your heart. Surely nothing is impossible with our Father in heaven. If He has spoken it will come to pass!     gen Then Ioseph her husband being a iust man, and not willing to make her a publike example, was minded to put her away secretly.

    luv Toen nu Jezus geboren was te Bethlehem in Judéa, in de dagen van koning Herodes, zie, toen kwamen er Wijzen uit het Oosten te Jeruzalem,

    gen Saying, Where is that King of the Iewes that is borne? for wee haue seene his starre in the East, and are come to worship him.

    gen And gathering together all the chiefe Priestes and Scribes of the people, hee asked of them, where Christ should be borne.

    GRK και συναξας παντας τους αρχιερεις και γραμματεις του λαου, ηρωτα να μαθη παρ' αυτων που ο Χριστος γενναται.

    luv en hij liet vergaderen alle Hogepriesters en Schriftgeleerden des volks, en vraagde van hen, waar de Christus zou geboren worden.

    gen And they saide vnto him, At Beth-leem in Iudea: for so it is written by the Prophet,

    Matthew 2 :6

    gen And thou Beth-leem in the lande of Iuda, art not the least among the Princes of Iuda: For out of thee shall come the gouernour that shall feede that my people Israel.

    GRK Και συ, Βηθλεεμ, γη Ιουδα, δεν εισαι ουδολως ελαχιστη μεταξυ των ηγεμονων του Ιουδα· διοτι εκ σου θελει εξελθει ηγουμενος, οστις θελει ποιμανει τον λαον μου τον Ισραηλ.

    luv En gij, Bethlehem, in het land van Juda, gij zijt geenszins de minste onder de vorsten van Juda; want uit u zal een heerser voortkomen, die mijn volk Israël weiden zal.

    Matthew 2 :7

    gen Then Herod priuily called the Wisemen, and diligently inquired of them the time of the starre that appeared,

    GRK Τοτε ο Ηρωδης καλεσας κρυφιως τους μαγους εξηκριβωσε παρ' αυτων τον καιρον του φαινομενου αστερος,

    luv Toen ontbood Herodes de Wijzen heimelijk tot zich, en onderzocht nauwkeurig van hen den tijd, wanneer de ster verschenen was.

    Matthew 2 :8

    gen And sent them to Beth-leem, saying, Goe, and searche diligently for the babe: and when ye haue founde him, bring mee worde againe, that I may come also, and worship him.

    GRK και πεμψας αυτους εις Βηθλεεμ, ειπε· Πορευθεντες ακριβως εξετασατε περι του παιδιου, αφου δε ευρητε, απαγγειλατε μοι, δια να ελθω και εγω να προσκυνησω αυτο.

    luv En hij zond hen naar Bethlehem, en zeide: Gaat heen en vraagt nauwkeurig naar het kind; en als gij het vindt, zo zegt het mij weder, opdat ik ook kome en het aanbidde.

    Matthew 2 :9

    gen So when they had heard the King, they departed: and loe, the starre which they had seene in the East, went before them, till it came and stoode ouer the place where the babe was.

    GRK Εκεινοι δε ακουσαντες του βασιλεως ανεχωρησαν· και ιδου, ο αστηρ τον οποιον ειδον εν τη ανατολη προεπορευετο αυτων, εωσου ελθων εσταθη επανω οπου ητο το παιδιον.

    luv Toen zij nu den koning gehoord hadden, trokken zij heen. En zie, de ster, die zij in het Oosten gezien hadden, ging voor hen uit, totdat zij kwam en stond boven, waar het kind was.

    gen And when they sawe the starre, they reioyced with an exceeding great ioy,

    luv Toen zij nu de ster zagen, werden zij zeer verblijd;

    gen And went into the house, and founde the babe with Mary his mother, and fell downe, and worshipped him, and opened their treasures, and presented vnto him giftes, euen golde, and frankincense, and myrrhe.

    GRK και ελθοντες εις την οικιαν ευρον το παιδιον μετα Μαριας της μητρος αυτου, και πεσοντες προσεκυνησαν αυτο, και ανοιξαντες τους θησαυρους αυτων προσεφεραν εις αυτο δωρα, χρυσον και λιβανον και σμυρναν·

    luv en zij gingen in het huis, en vonden het kind met Maria, zijne moeder, en zij vielen neder en aanbaden het, en deden hunne schatten open, en schonken hem goud, wierook en mirre.

    Matthew 2 :12

    gen And after they were warned of God in a dreame, that they should not go againe to Herod, they returned into their countrey another way.

    GRK και αποκαλυφθεντες θεοθεν κατ' οναρ να μη επιστρεψωσι προς τον Ηρωδην, δι' αλλης οδου ανεχωρησαν εις την χωραν αυτων.

    luv En God beval hun in een droom, dat zij tot Herodes niet zouden wederkeren; en zij togen langs een anderen weg weder naar hun land.

    gen After their departure, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeareth to Ioseph in a dreame, saying, Arise, and take the babe and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there til I bring thee word: for Herod will seeke the babe, to destroy him.

    GRK Αφου δε αυτοι ανεχωρησαν, ιδου, αγγελος Κυριου φαινεται κατ' οναρ εις τον Ιωσηφ, λεγων· Εγερθεις παραλαβε το παιδιον και την μητερα αυτου και φευγε εις Αιγυπτον, και εσο εκει εωσου ειπω σοι· διοτι μελλει ο Ηρωδης να ζητηση το παιδιον, δια να απολεση αυτο.

    luv Toen zij nu weggereisd waren, zie, toen verscheen een Engel des Heren aan Jozef in een droom, en zeide: Sta op, en neem het kind en zijne moeder tot u, en vlied naar Egypte, en blijf aldaar, totdat Ik het u zeg; want het is ophanden, dat Herodes het kind zal zoeken om het te doden.

    gen And was there vnto the death of Herod, that that might be fulfilled, which is spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, Out of Egypt haue I called my sonne.

    GRK και ητο εκει εως της τελευτης του Ηρωδου, δια να πληρωθη το ρηθεν υπο του Κυριου δια του προφητου λεγοντος· Εξ Αιγυπτου εκαλεσα τον υιον μου.

    luv en bleef aldaar tot na den dood van Herodes, opdat vervuld zou worden hetgeen de Heer gesproken heeft door den profeet, zeggende: Uit Egypte heb Ik mijnen Zoon geroepen.

    Matthew 2 :16

    gen Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the Wisemen, was exceeding wroth, and sent foorth, and slew all the male children that were in Beth-leem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two yeere old and vnder, according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the Wisemen.

    GRK Τοτε ο Ηρωδης, ιδων οτι ενεπαιχθη υπο των μαγων, εθυμωθη σφοδρα και αποστειλας εφονευσε παντας τους παιδας τους εν Βηθλεεμ και εν πασι τοις οριοις αυτης απο δυο ετων και κατωτερω κατα τον καιρον, τον οποιον εξηκριβωσε παρα των μαγων.

    luv Toen Herodes nu zag, dat hij door de Wijzen bedrogen was, werd hij zeer toornig, en zond uit en liet alle kinderen doden te Bethlehem en binnen al deszelfs landpalen, van twee jaren en daaronder, naar den tijd dien hij nauwkeurig van de Wijzen onderzocht had.

    gen In Rhama was a voyce heard, mourning, and weeping, and great howling: Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they were not.

    GRK Φωνη ηκουσθη εν Ραμα, θρηνος και κλαυθμος και οδυρμος πολυς· η Ραχηλ εκλαιε τα τεκνα αυτης, και δεν ηθελε να παρηγορηθη, διοτι δεν υπαρχουσι.

    luv Een gejammer is in Rama gehoord, veel geklag, geween en gekerm: Rachel beweende hare kinderen, en wilde zich niet laten troosten, omdat zij niet meer waren.

    gen And whe Herod was dead, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeareth in a dreame to Ioseph in Egypt,

    GRK Τελευτησαντος δε του Ηρωδου ιδου, αγγελος Κυριου φαινεται κατ' οναρ εις τον Ιωσηφ εν Αιγυπτω,

    luv Toen nu Herodes gestorven was, zie, toen verscheen een Engel des Heren aan Jozef in een droom in Egypte,

    gen Saying, Arise, and take the babe and his mother, and goe into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the babes life.

    GRK λεγων· Εγερθεις παραλαβε το παιδιον και την μητερα αυτου και υπαγε εις γην Ισραηλ· διοτι απεθανον οι ζητουντες την ψυχην του παιδιου.

    luv en zeide: Sta op, en neem het kind en zijne moeder tot u, en trek heen naar het land van Israël; want zij zijn gestorven, die naar het leven van het kind stonden.

    gen Then he arose vp and tooke the babe and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

    gen But whe he heard that Archelaus did reigne in Iudea in stead of his father Herod, he was afraide to go thither: yet after he was warned of God in a dreame, he turned aside into the parts of Galile,

    GRK Ακουσας δε οτι ο Αρχελαος βασιλευει επι της Ιουδαιας αντι Ηρωδου του πατρος αυτου, εφοβηθη να υπαγη εκει· αποκαλυφθεις δε θεοθεν κατ' οναρ ανεχωρησεν εις τα μερη της Γαλιλαιας,

    luv Maar toen hij hoorde, dat Archelaüs in Judéa koning was, in de plaats van zijnen vader Herodes, vreesde hij derwaarts te komen; en in een droom kreeg hij een bevel van God, en trok naar het landschap Galiléa.

    gen And went and dwelt in a citie called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Prophets, which was, That hee should be called a Nazarite.

    GRK και ελθων κατωκησεν εις πολιν λεγομενην Ναζαρετ, δια να πληρωθη το ρηθεν δια των προφητων· οτι Ναζωραιος θελει ονομασθη.

    gen And this Iohn had his garment of camels heare, and a girdle of a skinne about his loynes: his meate was also locusts and wilde hony.

    gen And they were baptized of him in Iordan, confessing their sinnes.

    gen Now when he sawe many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptisme, he said vnto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come?

    GRK Ιδων δε πολλους εκ των Φαρισαιων και Σαδδουκαιων ερχομενους εις το βαπτισμα αυτου, ειπε προς αυτους· Γεννηματα εχιδνων, τις εδειξεν εις εσας να φυγητε απο της μελλουσης οργης;

    luv Toen hij nu vele Farizeën en Sadduceën tot zijnen doop zag komen, zeide hij tot hen: Gij addergebroedsels, wie heeft u getoond, dat gij den toekomenden toorn ontvlieden zult?

    gen And thinke not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able euen of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.

    GRK και μη φαντασθητε να λεγητε καθ' εαυτους, Πατερα εχομεν τον Αβρααμ· διοτι σας λεγω οτι δυναται ο Θεος εκ των λιθων τουτων να αναστηση τεκνα εις τον Αβρααμ.

    luv en denkt niet bij uzelven te zeggen: Wij hebben Abraham tot een vader, want ik zeg u, dat God ook uit deze stenen Abraham kinderen kan verwekken.

    Matthew 3 :10

    gen And now also is the axe put to the roote of the trees: therfore euery tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into ye fire.

    GRK Ηδη δε και η αξινη κειται προς την ριζαν των δενδρων· παν λοιπον δενδρον μη καμνον καρπον καλον εκκοπτεται και εις πυρ βαλλεται.

    luv De bijl is reeds aan den wortel der bomen gelegd; elke boom derhalve, die geen goede vruchten voortbrengt, wordt uitgehouwen en in het vuur geworpen.

    gen In deede I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that commeth after me, is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthie to beare: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.

    GRK Εγω μεν σας βαπτιζω εν υδατι εις μετανοιαν· ο δε οπισω μου ερχομενος ειναι ισχυροτερος μου, του οποιου δεν ειμαι αξιος να βαστασω τα υποδηματα· αυτος θελει σας βαπτισει εν Πνευματι Αγιω και πυρι.

    luv Ik doop u met water tot boete; maar die na mij komen zal is sterker dan ik, wiens schoenen ik niet waardig ben aan te dragen; die zal u met den Heiligen Geest en met vuur dopen.

    gen Which hath his fanne in his hand, and wil make cleane his floore, and gather his wheate into his garner, but will burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.

    GRK Οστις κρατει το πτυαριον εν τη χειρι αυτου και θελει διακαθαρισει το αλωνιον αυτου και θελει συναξει τον σιτον αυτου εις την αποθηκην, το δε αχυρον θελει κατακαυσει εν πυρι ασβεστω.

    luv En hij heeft zijne wan in de hand; hij zal zijnen dorsvloer vegen, en de tarwe in zijne schuur vergaderen, maar het kaf zal hij verbranden met onuitbluschbaar vuur.

    gen Then came Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him.

    GRK Τοτε ερχεται ο Ιησους απο της Γαλιλαιας εις τον Ιορδανην προς τον Ιωαννην δια να βαπτισθη υπ' αυτου.

    luv Te dien tijde kwam Jezus uit Galiléa naar den Jordaan tot Johannes, om zich door hem te laten dopen.

    Matthew 3 :14

    gen But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?

    GRK Ο δε Ιωαννης εκωλυεν αυτον, λεγων, Εγω χρειαν εχω να βαπτισθω υπο σου, και συ ερχεσαι προς εμε;

    luv Maar Johannes weigerde het hem, en zeide: Ik heb nodig door u gedoopt te worden, en gij komt tot mij?

    Matthew 3 :15

    gen Then Iesus answering, saide to him, Let be nowe: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnes. So he suffered him.

    GRK Αποκριθεις δε ο Ιησους ειπε προς αυτον· Αφες τωρα· διοτι ουτως ειναι πρεπον εις ημας να εκπληρωσωμεν πασαν δικαιοσυνην. Τοτε αφινει αυτον.

    luv Maar Jezus antwoordde en zeide tot hem: Laat het nu zo zijn; want dus betaamt het ons alle gerechtigheid te vervullen. Toen liet hij het hem toe.

    gen And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.

    Matthew 4 :1

    gen Then was Iesus led aside of the Spirit into the wildernes, to be tempted of the deuil.

    GRK Τοτε ο Ιησους εφερθη υπο του Πνευματος εις την ερημον δια να πειρασθη υπο του διαβολου,

    luv Toen werd Jezus door den Geest heengeleid in de woestijn, om door den duivel verzocht te worden.

    gen And when he had fasted fourtie dayes, and fourtie nights, he was afterward hungrie.

    GRK και νηστευσας ημερας τεσσαρακοντα και νυκτας τεσσαρακοντα, υστερον επεινασε.

    luv En toen hij veertig dagen en veertig nachten gevast had, hongerde hem.

    gen Then came to him the tempter, and said, If thou be the Sonne of God, commande that these stones be made bread.

    luv En de verzoeker trad tot hem en zeide: Zijt gij Gods Zoon, zo zeg, dat deze stenen brood worden.

    Matthew 4 :4

    gen But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not liue by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

    GRK Ο δε αποκριθεις ειπεν· Ειναι γεγραμμενον, Με αρτον μονον δεν θελει ζησει ο ανθρωπος, αλλα με παντα λογον εξερχομενον δια στοματος Θεου.

    luv Doch hij antwoordde en zeide: Er staat geschreven: De mens leeft niet van brood alleen, maar van elk woord dat door den mond Gods uitgaat.

    gen Then the deuil tooke him vp into the holy Citie, and set him on a pinacle of the temple,

    GRK Τοτε παραλαμβανει αυτον ο διαβολος εις την αγιαν πολιν και στηνει αυτον επι το πτερυγιον του ιερου

    luv Toen voerde de duivel hem met zich in de heilige stad, en stelde hem op de tinne des tempels,

    gen And said vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe: for it is written, that he wil giue his Angels charge ouer thee, and with their hands they shall lift thee vp, lest at any time thou shouldest dash thy foote against a stone.

    GRK και λεγει προς αυτον, Εαν ησαι Υιος του Θεου, ριψον σεαυτον κατω· διοτι ειναι γεγραμμενον, Οτι θελει προσταξει εις τους αγγελους αυτου περι σου, και θελουσι σε σηκωνει επι των χειρων αυτων, δια να μη προσκοψης προς λιθον τον ποδα σου.

    luv en zeide tot hem: Zijt gij Gods Zoon, zo werp u nederwaarts; want er staat geschreven: Hij zal wegens u zijn Engelen bevelen, en zij zullen u op de handen dragen, opdat gij uwen voet niet aan een steen stoot.

    Matthew 4 :7

    gen Iesus saide vnto him, It is written againe, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

    GRK Ειπε προς αυτον ο Ιησους· Παλιν ειναι γεγραμμενον, δεν θελεις πειρασει Κυριον τον Θεον σου.

    luv Doch Jezus zeide tot hem: Wederom staat er geschreven: Gij zult God, uwen Heer, niet verzoeken.

    Matthew 4 :8

    gen Againe the deuil tooke him vp into an exceeding hie mountaine, and shewed him all the kingdomes of the world, and the glory of them,

    GRK Παλιν παραλαμβανει αυτον ο διαβολος εις ορος πολυ υψηλον, και δεικνυει εις αυτον παντα τα βασιλεια του κοσμου και την δοξαν αυτων,

    luv Wederom voerde de duivel hem met zich op een zeer hogen berg, en toonde hem al de koninkrijken der wereld en hunne heerlijkheid,

    Matthew 4 :9

    gen And sayd to him, All these will I giue thee, if thou wilt fall downe, and worship me.

    GRK και λεγει προς αυτον· Ταυτα παντα θελω σοι δωσει, εαν πεσων προσκυνησης με.

    luv en zeide tot hem: Dit alles zal ik u geven, indien gij nedervalt en mij aanbidt.

    Matthew 4 :10

    gen Then sayd Iesus vnto him, Auoyde Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him onely shalt thou serue.

    GRK Τοτε ο Ιησους λεγει προς αυτον· Υπαγε, Σατανα· διοτι ειναι γεγραμμενον, Κυριον τον Θεον σου θελεις προσκυνησει και αυτον μονον θελεις λατρευσει.

    luv Toen zeide Jezus tot hem: Ga weg van mij, satan! want er staat geschreven: Gij zult God, uwen Heer, aanbidden en Hem alleen dienen.

    Matthew 4 :11

    gen Then the deuill left him: and beholde, the Angels came, and ministred vnto him.

    GRK Τοτε αφινει αυτον ο διαβολος, και ιδου, αγγελοι προσηλθον και υπηρετουν αυτον.

    luv Toen verliet hem de duivel; en zie, toen traden Engelen tot hem en dienden hem.

    Matthew 4 :12

    gen And when Iesus had heard that Iohn was committed to prison, he returned into Galile.

    GRK Ακουσας δε ο Ιησους οτι ο Ιωαννης παρεδοθη, ανεχωρησεν εις την Γαλιλαιαν.

    luv Toen nu Jezus hoorde, dat Johannes overgeleverd was, vertrok hij naar Galiléa,

    gen And leauing Nazareth, went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is neere the sea in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim,

    GRK Και αφησας την Ναζαρετ ηλθε και κατωκησεν εις Καπερναουμ την παραθαλασσιαν εν τοις οριοις Ζαβουλων και Νεφθαλειμ.

    luv en verliet de stad Nazaret, en kwam en woonde te Kapernaüm, hetwelk ligt aan de zee, binnen de landpalen van Zebulon en Naftali;

    gen That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the Propet, saying,

    GRK Δια να πληρωθη το ρηθεν δια Ησαιου του προφητου λεγοντος·

    gen The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim by the way of the sea, beyond Iordan, Galile of the Gentiles:

    GRK Γη Ζαβουλων και γη Νεφθαλειμ, κατα την οδον της θαλασσης, περαν του Ιορδανου, Γαλιλαια των εθνων.

    luv "Het land Zebulon en het land Naftali, aan den weg der zee, aan gene zijde van den Jordaan, het heidense Galiléa;

    Matthew 4 :16

    gen The people which sate in darkenes, sawe great light: and to them which sate in the region, and shadowe of death, light is risen vp.

    GRK Ο λαος ο καθημενος εν σκοτει ειδε φως μεγα, και εις τους καθημενους εν τοπω και σκια θανατου φως ανετειλεν εις αυτους.

    luv het volk, dat in de duisternis zat, heeft een groot licht gezien, en hun, die in de landstreek en schaduw des doods zaten, is een licht opgegaan".

    Matthew 4 :17

    gen From that time Iesus began to preach, and to say, Amende your liues: for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.

    GRK Απο τοτε ηρχισεν ο Ιησους να κηρυττη και να λεγη· Μετανοειτε διοτι επλησιασεν η βασιλεια των ουρανων.

    luv Van dien tijd af begon Jezus te prediken, en te zeggen: Doet boete, het hemelrijk is nabij gekomen.

    gen And Iesus walking by the sea of Galile, sawe two brethren, Simon, which was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers.)

    GRK Περιπατων δε ο Ιησους παρα την θαλασσαν της Γαλιλαιας, ειδε δυο αδελφους, Σιμωνα τον λεγομενον Πετρον και Ανδρεαν τον αδελφον αυτου, ριπτοντας δικτυον εις την θαλασσαν· διοτι ησαν αλιεις·

    luv Toen nu Jezus aan de Galilese zee wandelde, zag hij twee broeders, Simon, genaamd Petrus, en Andréas, zijnen broeder, die hun net in zee uitwierpen, want zij waren visschers.

    Matthew 4 :19

    gen And he sayd vnto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

    GRK και λεγει προς αυτους· Ελθετε οπισω μου και θελω σας καμει αλιεις ανθρωπων.

    luv En hij zeide tot hen: Volgt mij; ík zal u tot mensenvissers maken.

    Matthew 4 :20

    gen And they straightway leauing the nets, folowed him.

    GRK Οι δε αφησαντες ευθυς τα δικτυα, ηκολουθησαν αυτον.

    luv En terstond verlieten zij hunne netten en volgden hem.

    gen And when he was gone forth from thence, he saw other two brethren, Iames the sonne of Zebedeus, and Iohn his brother in a ship with Zebedeus their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

    GRK Και προχωρησας εκειθεν ειδεν αλλους δυο αδελφους, Ιακωβον τον του Ζεβεδαιου και Ιωαννην τον αδελφον αυτου, εν τω πλοιω μετα Ζεβεδαιου του πατρος αυτων επισκευαζοντας τα δικτυα αυτων, και εκαλεσεν αυτους.

    luv En toen hij van daar voortging, zag hij twee andere broeders, Jakobus, den zoon van Zebedeüs, en Johannes, zijnen broeder, in het schip met hunnen vader Zebedeüs hunne netten verstellende; en hij riep hen.

    gen And they without tarying, leauing the ship, and their father, folowed him.

    GRK Οι δε αφησαντες ευθυς το πλοιον και τον πατερα αυτων, ηκολουθησαν αυτον.

    Matthew 4 :23

    gen So Iesus went about all Galile, teaching in their Synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdome, and healing euery sicknesse and euery disease among the people.

    GRK Και περιηρχετο ο Ιησους ολην την Γαλιλαιαν, διδασκων εν ταις συναγωγαις αυτων και κηρυττων το ευαγγελιον της βασιλειας και θεραπευων πασαν νοσον και πασαν ασθενειαν μεταξυ του λαου.

    luv En Jezus ging alom in geheel Galiléa en leerde in hunne synagogen, en predikte het evangelie van het rijk, en genas allerlei ziekte en kwaal onder het volk.

    gen And his fame spread abroad through all Syria: and they brought vnto him all sicke people, that were taken with diuers diseases and torments, and them that were possessed with deuils, and those which were lunatike, and those that had the palsey: and he healed them.

    GRK Και διηλθεν η φημη αυτου εις ολην την Συριαν, και εφερον προς αυτον παντας τους κακως εχοντας υπο διαφορων νοσηματων και βασανων συνεχομενους και δαιμονιζομενους και σεληνιαζομενους και παραλυτικους, και εθεραπευσεν αυτους·

    luv En het gerucht van hem verspreidde zich in geheel Syrië; en zij brachten tot hem allerlei kranken, met menigerlei ziekten en kwalen bezocht, bezetenen, maanzuchtigen, en verlamden; en hij genas hen.

    gen And there folowed him great multitudes out of Galile, and Decapolis, and Hierusalem, and Iudea, and from beyond Iordan.

    GRK και ηκολουθησαν αυτον οχλοι πολλοι απο της Γαλιλαιας και Δεκαπολεως και Ιεροσολυμων και Ιουδαιας και απο περαν του Ιορδανου.
