Who Do You Think You Are?

A monk's roll, 1351 - 1352

English and British monarchs have been crowned at Westminster Abbey in London since the 11th century, most recently Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6 May. It was a monastery until its dissolution during the, Reformation. The abbey's library and archives don't just hold records relating to figures of huge historical significance, but ‘ordinary’ people as well. Dr Matthew Payne, keeper of the muniments at the abbey, tells us about one such document - a 14th-century roll that records a medieval monk's medical treatment.
