Introduction
Since the first edition, these materials continue to find fans everywhere. The principles are becoming even more important as is the imperative to forming relationships at a personal and ongoing basis.
From my personal experience with Apple Computer and their use of event marketing
to the commencement address referencing the Greek Sophist’s and how they orchestrated and managed change, this book carries the insights of millennia. Add to these the years of testing, utilizing and observation personally by the author, and you have the meat of the material in the story line.
When I first wrote this book I had used it in various organizations where I was a stakeholder (i.e. - employee). Since that time I have seen these concepts influence tens of thousands. They have been used in sales, marketing, management training, planning social events, adding pizzazz to church socials, launching new products, putting together communication, and printed pieces to name just a few.
The ideas that follow are as old as time. If you feel that after you read that they are too simple minded, then you have missed the application of the material. I didn’t cover creative thinking or the risks that come with pushing and pulling on the status quo. After reading if you feel that the book is a good read and don’t apply the materials, then at least you will have been entertained for a short period. If you apply the concepts to what ever you are doing, you will find fountains of skills in entertaining and being engaging to others.
This book is a short read which is intentional. Instead of laboring on examples and case studies, I wrote on the premise that a story can teach more than charts, graphs and carefully notated references.
Since the first edition the author has seen massive changes in his personal life. These teeth-rattling events attest even more so, the impact of massive change.
The story line may change slightly, to reflect the authors new insights. It is still a great read.

Chapter One

The Present . . .
The note was typical for him. In his characteristic handwriting it scrawled . . .
Meet me in the dungeon at 2:00 for a conversation about the Conversation.
The Dungeon.
Our office complex consisted of two buildings - one a tall glass creature where most of the executive offices were located, the second a short concrete job with limited windows and reinforced walls to protect the computer systems from the enemy, be that terrorists or acts of God in the form of foul weather. On its lower floor and a back corner was a conference room, affectionately called the Dungeon. The dark, windowless hall that led to it probably inspired the unique name. It was the
