Introduction
Brightening Long-Darkened Corners
Nearly every human being knows the feeling of experiencing something new. Whether it is the excitement that one feels to realize a popular restaurant is coming in down the street or inhaling the smell of a new car – everyone understands that the promise of some fresh, new thing is exciting.
But, innovation – now, there is a different thing.
Imagine what it must have been like to live in the era when electric lighting was a new and sought-after commodity. Imagine flipping a switch for the first time and having a room flooded with light, brightening long-darkened corners and casting strange, artificial shadows across the floor. But, there will be a downside, right? Or will there be? You don’t know because, well, you don’t know. You have not yet anticipated the challenges that will be brought by this new-fangled electric lamp.
And so you begin a journey with this bit of brilliant ingenuity, resolve to follow it and see where it takes you – for good or for bad.
Most of us will not necessarily relate to this moment of electric innovation because we grew up in an age where such a modern convenience was commonplace.
However, today’s generations have lived to experience so many new and innovative products to hit the markets and change life as we know it.
Recall for a moment the first time you turned a dial and
