ABOUT THE BOOK
Before any interview :
a. Do you wish that you knew the questions in advance?
b. Do you wish that you knew what the interviewer wanted from you?
c. Do you wish that you could dictate the way the interview went?
d. Do you wish that you could ace every interview that you gave?
e. Do you wish that interviews were fun?
If the answer to any of the above questions was YES you have the key to make your wish come true in your hands. This book will:
a. let you guess questions coming up in an interview;
b. guide you to understand the intentions of the interviewer;
c. allow you to move the interview in your preferred direction
d. help you be your best for every interview
e. allow you to make every interview fun;
I have appeared in many interviews. My first was when I was 8 years old for admission to a fancy school. I failed in that interview and in many others till I managed to get my first job. At that time, I assumed that I had got that job more out of luck than for my interview skills.
I was wrong. I understood the reasons for getting that job by talking to the people who interviewed me.
What I learned from them I tried to use it in my future interviews. I gave three interviews without wanting to change jobs, only to test the method. I passed in two out of three. The only time this method failed was when I did not have adequate functional knowledge, i.e. I did not know how to do the job.
When I wanted to change jobs, I implemented this method. I succeeded and have continued to succeed on every occasion.
This method, which I call the SIX-R
method, has helped me hit every question in an interview for a SIX. It ensured that I succeed in ALL interviews that I appeared in. I continue to take test
interviews to see if the method still works. I am happy to report, that after more than 10 years, it does.
This method involves the SIX ‘R’s
a. Research
b. Recognise
c. Requirement
d. Relate
e. Resolution
f. Response
There are 3 reasons for this effectiveness
a. it goes to the root of the interview process;
b. it taps at the psyche of the interviewer; and
c. it influences them to take a decision in YOUR favour.
If you know how to do your job, which most of us do, this book can help you. The SIX-R Method will showcase your talents so that the interviewer has no option but to select YOU.
Let us get started on the journey to becoming successful at interviews, always. To know more about interview techniques read my other two books:

CHAPTER I - WHAT IS AN INTERVIEW
We are all very familiar with the word interview. Have we ever thought about what the word means? Apart from the fact that it gets us entry to our Dream Job, what does an interview mean to us?
I took this question to many of my colleagues. I asked them to answer in one sentence. They gave the following answers:
a. Answer by a junior member of our organisation
It is an opportunity to showcase my skills so that I can move forward in life.
b. Answer by an HR recruiter
An interview is the filtration process used to decide a candidate’s suitability for a job"
c. Answer by a Chief HR Officer
An interview allows me to assess if a person suits our environment and will add to our success.
d. Answer by a functional manager (IT)
An interview is to understand if the candidate will deliver and allow me to meet targets.
As you see interview
means different things to different people. Each person has a separate expectation from the interview. The challenge is to meet the expectations of everyone. If you can justify
your selection to each person you will succeed.
The interview process is a dynamic, personal encounter. Looking at it in this way we understand the true nature of the term and I define interview as:
a method of solving an organisational pain through a process. A process where everyone who is ‘inter’ested has a ‘view’ and wants their view to co-Relate to the candidate.
If we look at the term interview with these lenses we will be able to meet everyone’s expectations and get selected.
Let us try to look at what each person wants to see
in YOU in an interview
1. The Recruiter
The recruiter is your first barrier in a successful interview. This is the first layer of filtration which you need to go through. We must understand that the recruiter wants to cast as wide a net as possible in the sea of eligible candidates. By doing so they hope to catch the best fish available in the sea. Your focus at this stage should be to ensure that you are in the recruiters’ net. If you can do that you would have cleared the first obstacle in the interview process. Thus, at this stage, it is important that the recruiter is, at least, able to see
you.
To give what the recruiter wants from you, you must appreciate how a recruiter works and their challenges. We will discuss this in detail in the chapter where we speak on dealing with a recruiters’ first call or mail.
2. The Hiring Manager
The hiring manager needs you for two main reasons:
a. To manage workload
b. To meet targets
If you have worked before you know that everyone complains about having more work and less time. Hiring managers, usually the function heads
