About this ebook

The divine work of supreme love.
Wise King Solomon has created a commune for unmarriageable Jewish women. Those Daughters of Jerusalem perform this dramatic pastiche of his poetry and music for him and his sublime beloved, The Queen of Sheba.
Like all true lovers, they have their private language and their secret code.
Their intimate rapture became a book of Scripture; "Canticles," or "The Song of Solomon," or "The Song of Songs."
The erotic, mystical Song made of Songs depicts love bringing the ultimate union.

presented here owes a large debt to, among others,

    the elaborate scholarly apparatus of

    www.biblehub.com

A few parallelisms, repetitions and copulatives have been interpolated for the sake of explanatory value and form, but without the use of italics as are used in many Bible translations. In the context of a theatrical presentation that seeks to bring forward the narrative, they could seem distracting, fussy.

The fact that this a musical work – the consummate song composed of songs – cannot be too greatly emphasized.

Most standard translations can be found beginning here:

    This version contains expanded parallelisms.

For all of eternity in its entirety is not as worthy as the day on which the Song of Songs was given to Israel, for all the Writings are holy, but the Song of Songs is the Holy of Holies.
    Rabbi Akiba (c. 40 – c. 137 CE)
