Love Struck - Renee Lee Fisher

    HOLLYWOOD

where dreams are made or not...

Cassidy laid in bed looking above to her bedroom ceiling decorated with sparkling stars affixed to the painted drywall. Positioned randomly. Surely the ceiling paint would peel back if they were removed. Certainly, it would require an extensive drywall repair to the entire surface. Her eyes fixed on the pointed edges of each star. She had no intention of removing the deco nor the dream of what they represented to her. Paging through another marketing college course book, she assured herself that was for her backup plan if acting didn’t work out. At least she would gain knowledge on how to market herself early on.

Living a simple life in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, she was separated by the many states that filled in between the East Coast to California. She had grown up in an average middle-class family. Cassidy was dubbed what a character early on and it stuck. With her adorable mannerisms and charming smile, she won over all her immediate family and relatives instantly. A child actress was born. As she grew, so did her ceiling collection and the vision of shining stars was a representation that she would get there someday. Cassidy would be a star. She would imagine her name being chanted… not Cassidy Shoemaker, but Vivian Layne.

Her heart filled with hope and her eyes widened taking in the entire view of the ceiling. Picturing all the stars aligning in her favor, off she went to dreamland. There she would envision herself in the latest movie premier.

    * * *

Another dreamer, Aiden Vaughn got as far west from Pennington, New Jersey as he could. He was one that would take lemons and make lemonade, make a pile of broken old wood into a designer tree house. Always a very compassionate guy with a positive outlook and vision for making things happen. Early on, at a youthful age, he thrived on acting and entertaining those that surrounded him. His reward was making them smile. He thought a career as a real actor would fulfill his dreams and would make him enough money to help others. His initial venture to Hollywood, ended up short. He got as far as Las Vegas. Broke and hungry he would need a much better plan. Work would benefit him, so finding immediate and temporary help, even flipping pancakes to the nighttime gamblers would suit him fine. With not much time to waste, a new day soon lands Aiden with a job on the strip.

Without hesitation, he began his shifts there, along with other newly hired young employees. Seems many others were in pursuit of their dreams and fell short too. Las Vegas to California wasn’t too far away. He needed to work a bit more to gain money to pursue his dream of arriving in Hollywood. There, he would become an actor. For years he dreamed of becoming Niles Stone. He had to get there, there was no alternative for him to return to where he had come from and remain simply Aiden.

One evening though, changed his life forever. He had felt lucky and gambled most of his weekly pay. It paid off greatly. Aiden then began his pursuit to the West Coast. As he drove along the highway in his brand-new car he approached an auto accident which halted the traffic ahead. To avoid a delay, he quickly veered off the exit ramp. On the less traveled road, he soon noticed a real estate opportunity. A true project in need of much TLC. He stopped for a moment to gain a closer look. His car though, remained parked in the empty lot adjacent to a large building, for quite some time. There, Aiden sat indecisive of which direction to take to follow his dreams.

    Clean Up Her Act

"CASSIDY – GET IN HERE! NOW!" Trish screamed from her office as soon as she saw her clients’ blonde hair tossing loosely as she walked down the corridor. Trish swallowed a big gulp of cold coffee from her cup that sat on her desk. It soothed her throat from yelling so harshly. She has a tolerance for many of her clients, but with Cassidy, she was about to blow. Cassidy aka Vivian Layne, an extremely popular actress gracing most current covers, was a client she adored early on, but lately tolerated. She had not shown up for a recent audition and was continually falling hard for all the wrong men.

Her career was scrutinized in the public eye and her focus was in the toilet, soon her career could follow that path and be flushed away. The tabloids were having a field day and all at Vivian’s expense. Sometimes the finest actresses need to lay low, regroup and refocus. If only Trish could get her to follow her advice, maybe she could recover from the bad publicity and rise above where she was once before.

What??? And keep the tone down. You don’t need to shout from your office. I heard you all the way down the hall. It’s too early for loud voices. Cassidy smirked at Trish.

It’s three in the afternoon and I will SHOUT when I please. Remember who you work for, who made you. Redness filled her cheeks as she was going full throttle aggravated with Vivian.

Cassidy huffed as she was about to remove her newest pair of sunglasses. She didn’t need them indoors, but wished to keep them on as her agent was in a twisted mood. Perhaps Trish needed a good crap or to be laid, but Cassidy felt the delivery of a warning or lecture coming from her agent. Under the shield of her tinted glasses, she rolled her eyes to let the words roll in one ear and out the other. She was thankful that she purchased these sunglasses. They were dark tinted so the eyes could react without another viewing their motion. A mere $2,700 drop in the bucket purchase, made Cassidy quite happy with her shopping find last weekend. They had a tint of green that she was drawn to in the store. The cashier also saw a glimmer of green taking the cash for the sale that afternoon. Just a few years ago sunglasses that were $27 dollars would have been a luxury for her. In a short time, her lifestyle has changed drastically.

Cassidy looked around the office to avoid eye contact with Trish. She needed a distraction. Unfavorable interaction was not favorable for her. Even recently with the tabloids exposing photos of her and other men and spilling they were together and then suddenly broken apart. The reporters got involved in her romances more than she was or had the opportunity to be and it was messy. Everyone torn apart or left tattered, loose ends never tied up. Being in front of Trish felt like the firing squad of reporters lined up to fire away with words, one after another.

Okay, so it’s afternoon and I can hear perfectly clear. I did however, stay at a party last night until late, so can you please lower your voice? Cassidy wondered what was up Trish’s ass to make her so elevated. Cassidy nonchalantly slid her sunglasses to the middle of her nose.

Anger began to rise within Trish. Her teeth clenched tightly. Cassidy just didn’t seem to take her seriously or the business. FIRST, you don’t tell me what to do when YOU are screwing up your own career that I REPRESENT! Cassidy, how can I sell you to more film possibilities when you DON’T FREAKING SHOW UP?

Okay, I get your anger, but I can explain. I decided I didn’t like the content of that movie you were sending me to audition for…a needy college girl character seemed boring to me. I want the larger roles, not the teen scene film fest.

"Oh, you do. Cassidy your VIVIAN LAYNE name is not going to get invited to audition to the adult scene films at the rate you are going."

Trish, take a breath. I’m slacking, it’s a few failed romances splashed across the tabloids in one year that have hit me hard. I will focus more, you have my word. Cassidy turned toward the window to keep her yawn of boredom of their conversation hidden. She also needed to get away from the intense stare that Trish boar through her.

Trish took several calming breaths. She knew how much potential Cassidy had and recently her attitude had switched. There was an arrogance now that surfaced. Her sweetness gone. The excitement of being an actress was no longer evident. Perhaps it was her crushed romances that left her scorned. In a lower tone, Trish annunciated each word slowly as she spoke and made certain to catch Cassidy’s eyes when she turned back from the window view.

"Cassidy, you are going to listen to what I’m presenting you with. You will follow my direction and take an immediate leave to a spa resort. I will foot the entire bill.
