About this ebook

‘The Ultimate Directory of English and Scottish Football Grounds (1888-2005)’ is a 240 page best selling book (with several reprints since it was first published in 2005), which provides the reader with information relating to the 323 grounds in total (206 in England and 117 in Scotland) on which League matches have been played from the first, in 1888. The famous, together with the obscure are here, including the precise location of every venue with map (especially for those wishing to visit the sites or the grounds), plus a host of interesting facts of every ground, Including, are potted histories and the statistical details of every League club that has played at each, with records of the first and last games at each venue, the highest and lowest attendances, the biggest victory and the worst defeat, plus many photos. Two alphabetical indexes aid finding the club/ground. An invaluable travel guide, a ‘coffee table’ book and a good read!

I thought this was the true heir to Simon Inglis's football grounds directories and bought it hoping there would be more extensive pictures and commentaries on the lost grounds. There is but it falls slightly short of Inglis's classic in the respect that its totally to the point and factual. Totall comprehensive, if only there were a few more pictures to back the fact up, or is that me wanting to fuel my obsession of when grounds were grounds and not stadiums too much.
