Flights of Fancy

As Sophia walked up the mountain slope that led to her Great Aunt Diane’s huge home, she thought about the fun that lay ahead for the summer.

Staying with Diane and spending time with her brother and five cousins was always an adventure. Her cousins were mini-celebrities in Kelowna and Summerland, all because of Aunt Diane. Her orchard had become famous. It was said that Diane’s cherries were the size of a plum; the plum the size of an apple; an apple the size of a grapefruit. Her vegetables were bigger, more colourful, and had more flavour than any of the orchards in the valley. The residents wanted to know just how she managed to out grow all of them and, no matter how they tried, they could never find out the secret. Three summers ago, all seven cousins finally found out how she grew the biggest and best fruits and vegetables in the
