About this ebook

Using great amounts of humour, tenderness and realism, "The synergies of Marcio" manages to form a demystifying portrait, as well as demolishing, of the life of an IT engineer in Spain. Taking as protagonist a professional named Marcio (which is a rare name and, thus, any resemblance to reality will be coincidence), the author presents a hidden and closed world that we all believed to be very different: the projects management, the treatment of subordinates, the rewards, the relationship between engineers, the coexistence in the office, the work travel, the endless availability... All aspects of this type of occupation will be unravelling, not to mention the surprising personal life of the protagonist. Dive into the seven stories of Marcio, discover this close and intimate character and live his adventures narrated with the style, irony and cruelty of a tale

    The synergies of Marcio - Mario Garrido Espinosa

    Dedicated to:

    To my parents and brother.

    To all the IT people.

    To those who read this book by chapters in its first published version.

    This is no vengeance, only a series of fairy tales, like the one about Little Red Riding Hood;

    It may be the case that some of the stories present true facts.

    Note from the Author: Within IT metalanguage it is common to present within the graphical symbols < and > expressions that although not reserved words, they are variables or complex statements. By over using this type of semantics, the present book uses these metalinguistic forms to denote descriptions or characteristics of something or someone that are more important to the purpose of each story than its name. As an example, in the text we can find expressions like , instead of, let us say, this other more colloquial expression: Paco. In this way, the informed reader will know at a glance that we are referring to a manager, someone who is supposed to have some responsibility, a boss, an individual that should direct projects and people and should do it well, since he has reached that position by experience and knowledge (or so it is assumed). We do not care if it's called Paco, Torcuato or Priscilla.

    This Book is a fiction literary piece. The names, characters, companies, places, texts, mails exchanges, events and successes presented here are a product from the author’s imagination. Any similarity with the reality are a coincidence.

    #001 The love life of an IT consultant

    1

    ––––––––

    The love stories of IT consultants are so sad as their lives are. There is no hope in a brighter future, there is only today and it can change dramatically at any moment. From evening to the morning the IT Engineer has to change his schedule, friends, workplace and promises because of a sudden change in the project, in a different department, activity or industry. He must be prepared for anything at any time. This high level of versatility and availability is expected from developers and analysts who find in their salaries and career progression a constant lack of progression or change. This is obviously the case in Spain.

    This was the case of our protagonist, let's call him Marcio (a rare name and, thus, any resemblance to reality will be coincidence). He was assigned to a new project in the home headquarters of the Multinational ADRIN Systems, national company leader in technological consultancy. Our consultant, from this moment onwards, must dedicate himself to the implementation of electronic procedures using a tool that he has never seen in his entire life. This is just one example in our tale, as the curious reader knows, Spanish IT professionals are people who should know everything. Today, they design complex documentary systems and tomorrow they manage environments on Linux, without any mediation or training, since the latter has costs. It will be enough that in the past projects with documentary systems, these run on this Unix system and in the eyes of those who take decisions where to put the IT employees — numbers of employees with no face or soul to place as soon as possible. The person is considered an expert even if the system name is only similar. Such is the study that
