ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The entire journey from the minute I decided that my book will be published, till the day it finally was, each day was automatically accompanied with fear, inhibitions, lots of questions and excitement. The most important people responsible for this accomplishment are off course my family, Papa and Maa for your undying faith and encouragement, I exist because of you. Sumana Nag—my biggest critic and best sister, Sampa Acharyya for believing that I am the best no matter what! And everyone who has contributed in their own ways. THANK YOU.
PARTRIDGE PUBLISHING HOUSE, especially Earl Tristan, Ann Minoza and the entire team. You truly kept your word and this book would be impossible without all of you. For a first time author, you are a dream come true. Thank you for being so patient with my never ending questions!
THANK YOU EVERYBODY!

TIME . . .
The terrifying spectacled eyes of balding ‘Bob Biswas’ peered over pregnant ‘Vidya bagchi’s shoulder before suddenly pushing her towards the underground railway tracks… . Whoa! This dramatic scene from the movie ‘Kahaani’ which released in 2011 has left an undying memory in everyone’s minds. The outstanding commercial and critical success of the movie helped further, as the story of the film centred on the Kolkata metro, and beautifully portrayed the capital of Bengal on an international level. From Kalighat police station to Monalisa guest house, every person was addicted to the city, and left craving for more. KOLKATA
—The former capital of India is often referred to as the city of joy, traditions and rich culture. However there is one historically proud event that escapes our mind, probably because we are so used to it! It’s such an integral part of life, which hardly awes anyone anymore. ‘KOLKATA METRO’.
The absolute genius idea was conceptualised during the chief ministry of Mr. B.C.Roy in 1972. The primary reason behind the concept was the inconvenience of transportation of the common man, little did they know that history was about to be created. The dream of an underground railway finally became a reality on October 24th 1984, changing Kolkata’s position to the first city in India and the fifth in Asia to have built an underground railway system. Almost 30 years! Wow! Agreed, it has been long enough for people to take it for granted.
Back in 1984 soon the metro became the easiest, fastest and affordable mode of transportation for thousands of people. Just the thought of travelling across the city in a
