Alice Oseman

Alice Oseman is an award-winning author, illustrator, and screenwriter. Alice is the creator of LGBTQ+ YA romance comic Heartstopper, and the writer, creator, and executive producer for the Emmy Award-winning television adaptation for Netflix, produced by See-Saw. Alice has written every episode and been involved at every stage, from casting to music. Alice is the author of several YA contemporary novels about teenage disasters: Solitaire (published when she was 19), Radio Silence, I Was Born for This, and Loveless (a New York Times bestseller). With Nick heading off to university in the fall, he and Charlie have some drama about long-distance relationships stuffed with contrivances and idiocy. Regardless of how stupid they act, it's nice to visit the characters while waiting for the final -- and hopefully much better -- graphic novel.Editor David Levithan contributes some useful end matter explaining the differences between British and American language and school systems.

Very cute. I don't know whether I'd have enjoyed it so much as a standalone, but I also don't think that it was really meant to stand apart from the graphic novels. This felt more like a love letter to fans, or a timestamp installment to a story. For that purpose, I think it served well. The characters I know and love from the Heartstopper books are as sweet and frustratingly dense as ever, and I was glad that this was just a novella so that the angst wasn't prolonged. The extra section on British/American phrases and concepts was fun, too!

As someone who thoroughly enjoys the Heartstopper graphic novel series as well as its television adaptation, this novella was a lovely scene into the future of each Nick and Charlie - what their relationship will look like and how the pair need to work together in order to overcome any obstacle. It remains true and continuous to the main series by mentioning previous events such as Charlie’s sufferings in mental health found in volumes 3+4 of the graphic novels. Overall, this was a great addition to the Heartstopper universe!

audio novella (1 hr, 45 min, full cast audio with very professional-sounding actors), 1.5 in Heartstoppers seriesCharlie and Nick have now been dating for two years and now Nick is graduating and about to start University. Not really a full story, just a short episode--one big spat and then they eventually make up--but lovely enough if you enjoy shipping the two.

Nick and Charlie have been together through most of high school, as the school year ends, Nick has been getting excited to go to uni, however Charlie has been dreading him leaving. The issue at hand comes between their relationship, causing them to work through a difficult conflict in the summer. Going into this book, I was very nervous for these two, and at some points in the book it really seemed like it was the end of their relationship. But by the end, crisis was averted, and everything was okay. This turned out to be a really quick and lighthearted read (but also borderline upsetting) that I really enjoyed. Any fan of Heartstopper or Oseman's works should definitely read this.

Set two years after the Heartstopper graphic novels, this novella has Charlie wondering if he and their relationship can tolerate being long distance.Oseman's character development is superb, and there were a few times I wasn't sure where the boys relationship was headed. I loved the book and like a lot of LGBT+ people around my age, I wish that there was something like Heartstopper around when I was a teen.

I love the Heartstopper comics but did was just okay for me. The story would have worked better as a storyline in the comic instead of a separate novella. Maybe if I'd gone through something similar in my teens I would have enjoyed this more, but I'm really not a fan of the miscommuncation trope, so mostly this felt a lot unnecessary.

Read this so quickly! Absolutely in love with Nick & Charlie! Only annoying thing about this book was the miscommunication trope. Sorry, but I don’t get how you can not speak to your SO for 2 straight weeks? Like, I find that so unrealistic. Idkk i’m just happy Charlie made contact eventually and they were happy!

I started reading Alice Oseman with the heartstopper graphic novels. This story is the best way to continue the story, and I am absolutely speechless with the emotions in the book. I think it is a great way to show that even the best couples argue (well, in this case, have a full-blown argument). Also, even though Alice has specified that Nick and Charlie's written story will end soon, I wish it didn't, as their characters have helped me through tough times and have shown me the struggles of LGBTQIA+ teenage relationships.
