    Shan Sa (a pseudonym meaning whistle of the wind in the mountains) was born in Beijing in 1972. In 1990, after the Tiananmen Square protests, she decided to leave China for Paris in order to begin a new life in France. Thanks to a scholarship from the French government, she was able to take the baccalaureate examination and go on to study philosophy.
