Mix one vampire with one human who doesn't believe in the paranormal and add some sizzle.

Anson wasn't looking for a partner when he spotted the handsome human, but he's not about to argue when the mood strikes. He's got to bring a date to the Halloween bash and Parker fits his bill exactly. Now all he needs to do is convince Parker that vampires truly exist.

Parker is practical, intelligent and a little on the geeky side. He can't believe his eyes—a handsome man has not only hit on him, but asked him out…to a masquerade ball. He doesn't believe in vampires, but Anson wears his Dracula costume a bit too well.

Can these two find love and trust after all or will the sparks only last until the dawn?

    Chapter One

I need to finish the story and get the guy. Try both goals being just about completely impossible. Parker sat along the wall at Mulcahy’s Bar and nursed his second beer. Half of the time, the brew ended up flat and bland by the time he got around to drinking it, but he wasn’t there to get drunk.

He shouldn’t have bought the first one or this beer, but he had to make a purchase in order to stick around. Lando, the bartender, didn’t appreciate people using the Wi-Fi without buying something. He didn’t see Maxie. Usually the perky waitress took care of him. Not tonight.

The little crossroads of Eriewood wasn’t exactly ground zero for excitement. The kids came to town for college classes and left as soon as they could, never to come back. Why would they? There wasn’t much to Eriewood beyond the university, a few bars, a couple of hamburger joints and a bank. Most of the residents lived on the country roads surrounding the town and what inhabitants did stay within the village limits attended the college.

Parker groaned and pressed the bottle to his lips. The beer tasted stale on his tongue, but he needed the buzz. His paper wasn’t going to write itself. He paid little attention to the other patrons at the bar. Looking around for a potential friend for the night wasn’t going to help him get his creative writing assignment done before the deadline and he hated cutting it close to deadlines. Still, why did the middle of the semester have to fall the day before Halloween?

He scratched his forehead and stared at his tablet screen. He knew what he had to write, but the words weren’t flowing. Even the words already jotted down in his notebook weren’t helping. God damn it, he hated being stuck.

He downed another swig of the beer and glanced around the room. Most the patrons to Mulcahy’s knew him and paid him little mind. Some sort of seemed to look out for him. Probably because they knew he wasn’t the type to fight back. Or he didn’t matter enough to them to give him a second thought. He didn’t see Cory or her boyfriend, Liam. He liked when Cory hung out with him and offered advice for his love life. She had hers figured out—so why couldn’t he? Because she had luck. He didn’t.

Tonight, the air in the bar seemed a little different. Thicker, maybe? Tenser? He wasn’t sure. Maybe the pressure of getting this project done had finally gotten to him. He wasn’t sure.

Heya, Parker. Lando picked up the empty bottle. How are you tonight? You okay?

I’m fine. Just stuck. He shrugged. Lando was cute enough, but a tad too...rough for his liking. Parker wasn’t a fan of facial tattoos and Lando had a gigantic spider on the side of his neck and the web stretched up to the middle of his right cheek. Two thick rings decorated Lando’s dark eyebrow, too. In the rough and ready category, he was hot, but a little too...dramatic for Parker.

I haven’t seen much typing. Lando tossed the towel onto his shoulder. You’re really in a funk. Because Maxie isn’t here? Or is it Cory? She’s taken, you know.

No. Maxie’s nice and I like Cory, but not like that. Besides, I’ve got a paper to finish. He finished the stale beer and offered up the bottle. I’ll have another. Please?

Three in one night? You’ll go crazy. Lando smiled—probably the first time Parker had ever seen Lando do such a thing. I’ll get it.

A shiver ran the length of Parker’s spine and blood rushed to his dick. He really needed to get laid or something. Lando was looking good enough to make Parker reconsider his options for the night. He knew damn well Lando Barnes wasn’t his type. Tattoos were all right, but in strategic places—arms, backs, ribs... He leaned back in his seat. He’d dated exactly one guy with ink and he’d loved to touch the little Scorpio symbol on Dave’s ribs. He shook his head. Another go-round with Dave wasn’t possible. His ex-boyfriend had graduated and moved to New York with his current boyfriend. Both were supposed to be making it big in high finance.

Parker scanned the bar patrons again. Maybe someone there would spark his interest or at least get him back into the story.

A man walked into the room and stopped at the counter. Parker paused. He’d never seen this guy in Mulcahy’s before. Tall, inky hair slicked back from his face in what appeared to be a pompadour, his thick lashes framed crystal blue eyes. He even appeared to have a little five o’clock shadow on his chiseled cheeks. The button-down shirt clung to his muscled frame—strong enough to be powerful, but not huge. He’d rolled up his sleeves to his elbows. This time, Parker’s libido stirred, stronger than with Lando. Parker sighed and rubbed the growing bulge in his jeans. Holy shit. He wanted to curl up on this man’s lap and do whatever the man asked. The man picked up a bottle of beer and some of the suds slicked down his hand.

I want to lick you clean, Parker mumbled. When he caught the man’s glance, he looked away. No chance in hell a handsome guy like him would talk to Parker. All of the insults he’d heard in the past came back to mind. He was too plain, too boring, too geeky. One day someone would like him and his nuances.

He focused on his tablet and the words already in the document. Shit. The story wouldn’t write itself any faster if he ogled the guy at the counter.

    Here you go.

Parker froze, then closed his eyes. This wasn’t Lando speaking. Not possible. Lando’s voice wasn’t that low. He balled his hands and forced himself to look the speaker in the eye. His breath lodged in his throat and he sank back in his chair. The blue-eyed man...

This is yours, right? He smiled and his eyes shimmered. Are you in there?

Uh...yeah. Holy shit. He couldn’t move, like he’d been put into a trance. He really wanted to lick this man. Parker shook his head and caught himself. I’m sorry, I think that’s mine. I ordered one. Thanks. Oh dear God, he sounded ridiculous.

Lando told me you needed a beer and asked if I’d deliver it. I told him it would be my pleasure. How could I not? He eased onto the chair opposite of Parker. Are you okay? You look stressed.

I... Stressed? Try horny as hell with fucked up concentration. I’m trying to get a paper done for my graduate class on creative writing.

You enjoy writing? Or is this a required activity in order to finish your graduate degree? His smile widened and a dimple formed in
